Audi has their gates closed, so they might pull out of the race.

Looks like the Ferrari drifted over and the Audi tried to get out of the way and lost it.

MrMulsanne
Horrible.

But check the replay... Rocky clipped the grass, no contact with the Ferrari.

Glad(I think?) I'm not the only one that noticed that. That was a horrific crash. Good luck to Rocky.

8 hours in, 2 Audi R18's totally destroyed.:nervous::sick: It's all on the #2 to defend the title that Audi won last year. And I believe I heard that Rocky is out of the car and something along the lines of him being all right.

EDIT: I believe I saw a replay from one of the Security camera with the outside view of the crash as well

They showed a world Feed video not too long and it showed contact from the Ferrari.

Except the car number 2 Audi is a bit unlucky today so far. I personally want Peugeot to win the race so I'm happy with that.:)
In the live timing which is the Lucas Ordonez Nissan? the Zytek or the Oreca?

It's an Oreca.

Tweeter feed says two things:

Rocky came back to the pits in a medical vehicle. Apparently, nothing to worry about.
The safety car period will be very long due to the need to repair the armcos again.

With everyone saying its the ferrari's fault I've always thought slower cars should stay to the racing line with it being the faster cars responsibility to to make a safe pass.
I think Driver meetings even say the same so drivers should know that the slow cars will stick to the racing line. They know slow drivers will stay on line as its what they are told to do.
Not the Ferrari's fault in my opinion but saying that I dont really think its Rocky's fault. Just a racing incident.

Good point of Martin Haven. There is such a fierce battle between audi and peugeot that they simply cannot lift and take it easy every time they overtake a slower car.

Saw the two angles on SPEED. Looks like the Ferrari was aiming for the inside of that kink and I don't believe the driver knew the Audi was coming fast behind him since it's pretty dark at this point. Seems as though it was bad timing as both cars approached that kink at the same time and both would prefer to have the inside line.

What I can't tell is whether there was any actual contact or if the Audi clipped the grass and spun.

I think this race has been a perfect example to safety in modern day races. Hardly that many years ago, the accidents Allan and Rocky have had would have been fatal. Thank the evolution of cars to getting them to the stage where these accidents are harmless to the drivers.

has Lucas Ordonez had a stint yet?

He had one a long while back.

some credit has to go to lady luck though I think.

From Twitter:
It appears that Rockenfeller climbed out the car himself after a huge shunt. Scary. We''ve had too many crashes already. No more please #lm24

Crazy race so far. You really have to give credit to the progression in safety in motorsport over the years.

I can't blame the Ferrari driver. He was holding his line as the slow cars were instructed to, and it just seems that it was a freak part of the track for something like that to happen. Looks like the accident was just bad timing and a really huge closing speed on the lead car from the Audi.

has Lucas Ordonez had a stint yet?

Yes, not sure when he's back in.

^This 👍

the track has also gotten alot safer. back then in some places there wasn't arm cos or run-offs. if you went off you took a ride through the woods and for the most part hit a tree = most definitely died.

Except the Audi was flashing the Ferrari from a ways back. The Ferrari should've seen that.

I thought so a bit earlier. Even the difference from one year to another, this would've happened with the open-top R15+ Audi fans and motoring enthusiasts all over the world would be weeping their losses.

They're saying at Eurosport Rocky began flashing his lights from 100 meters before to the Ferrari. Nobody knows.

Tweeter rumours say the Safety Car will stay in the lead until midnight until that big hit to the armco is fixed.
