Would you rather do your 24hr races fair or unfair.

Think about it, if you lose, that's another 24hrs you don't get to really play GT4

Or do you just think about making the game fun, but if you lose, leaving your PS2 on for another 24 hrs

*Edit* - I mean like taking a F1 to beat the 24 hr Nurb.

Or getting the correct kind of car for the race.

OK guys, by Unfair or Fair 24 hr races, I mean do you LIKE To make them fair, by racing with the same class of cars, or not , by using like a R8

24 hours is THE (as usual, each to his own and such) coolest addition to GT4 EVER !...

I can't wait to try to do one...

good question

Try answering the question.

Anyway, what do you mean by fair or unfair? Fair being choosing a car which is on par with the competition, or Unfair as in choosing a car which is far superior to the competition (eg: choosing the F-1 car in the 24 h Circuit De La Sarthe)? Or do you mean A-spec mode or B-spec mode?

If it's the cars, then I'd choose the far superior cars to just win the damn thing. But, if I have plenty of time, I'd take the cars that are on par and see how I do.

However, if it's the modes, then I'd take the B-spec mode just to win the race, but again, A-spec mode if I have plenty of time.

I'm doing the Nurburgring now in A-Spec only and I think it's plenty fair. I'm over 15 hours into it and the skills and familiarity I've developed for this course is incredible and I don't think there is any other way to develop that other than practice, practice, practice. I'm still a bit rough on some of the high speed parts (Jaguar race car) where it gets squirrely as heck but it's a real joy for me. It's a bit long but never boring because I'm always cognizant of split times, lap times and always trying to improve.

I was sitting at 7:00.456 for the longest time for quickest lap and now I'm down to something like 6:43 with super hards all around and moderate tuning so that my top speed is only around 220MPH or so.

I'm not sure what you mean by fair. To me, B-Spec is unfair, like mailing it in. My car is quicker than the others but I'm not racing the other cars, I'm racing the clock, trying to better my quickest times.

B spec is fair. As fair as I'm concered if it's in the game, use it .

Please don't take this like I'm trying to be mean
Thanks for letting one of my topics go threw for a change:)

THANKS ALOT!

There is no way in hell that I will do the 24 hours race all a-spec. I might start out with a-spec to give my b-spec dork a nice head start, but that's all. 4 hours is my maximum, besides that you can't win anything extra by doing it all a-spec. Now if I would win a special car which can only win by doing it in a-spec only I might have changed my mind, but you don't win anything extra so I will not.

As far as I'm concerned, these races are unrealistic to the common PS2 player. But, in regard to "fairness", there are stipulations for every race, and if you have a car that fits, use it. Even if it hands the other drivers' arses to 'em, do it. If the game doesn't throw something at you that can beat you, you came prepared and should be rewarded with a win.

Thank you for telling me how to quote 👍

These 24hr races are hard on a PS2. Also it limites the time we are really playing the game:( I guess they threw these end so they could give us a break (That's to the HARDCORE gt4 players)
I agree, I am trying to beat this game, so ANY car that can go into a race I will put it there. I don't care if it's unfair either :)

i finished a 24hour race on a-spec yesterday and it was great fun, cept my thumbs got real sore about 18hrs in =/. i took a stock Vauxhall astra super touring car and it was a joy! so stable. managed to get a record of 6:34.4xx, know the track so well now.

i advise any gt fan to give it a go.

i think its great, but as a one off.... cant keep doing them for friggin ever, i mean they change drivers in real life. i cant even sit there for a damn hour, dunno how im going to survive them

I'm happy they added that event, it's the ultimate race. now please add the Daytona 24 hours race.

The only races I like to do unfairly are the early ones with crappy cars. I just zip through them as quickly as possible. After that I like to be competative, the 24 hour race included. And I'm going to sit through the whole thing (:

The endurance races will undoubtedly be the very LAST thing I do in this game. The repetativeness bores me to no end, especially if I'm lapping the field.

I had every intention of beating the field quite convincingly so i did choose a more powerful car, but i didnt go quite all out with an F1 car or anything. I used the Amuse S2000 with ~500ps so it wasnt such a whitewash.

But i agree that you're mainly racing against yourself and the clock in a race like that.

I'm actually completing what I have to in order to get to the Endurance races. I'll be on that stuff as soon as I can.

Speaking of, what are the average lap times we're seeing from the AI cars in these races? Has that been documented anywhere? What kind of car should I drive in order to be most competetive?

Fastest AI time on La Sarthe I:
~3m30, is a Mazda 787B, the rest drives around 3m34 (Nissan R89C, BMW LM Race Car)

La Sarthe II:
~3m16, is for the Mazda 787B, Sauber Mercedes, Minolta Toyota has something like 3m18 or so.

Nurburgring:
Have no idea, haven't done that one yet.

For La Sarthe I:
I'm driving it now in B-spec, with my tuned Minolta Toyota V88-C Race Car. Mine drives around 3m26 average. So, non tuned, he would drive around 3m31 I guess. While I myself drive 3m20 untuned...

For La Sarthe II:
Use a tuned car. If not, you're done for. In B-spec, your driver keeps crashing into the wall at the straight, losing a lot of time. If you haven't got a car which is tuned, you'll lose too much time with that, and so lose the race. Even with a tuned car, a win isn't guaranteed. I had a tuned Minolta Toyota for that race, but couldn't beat the Sauber Mercedes and Mazda 787B in B-spec, while in A-spec, I was with an untuned car already 8 secs faster per lap.

Sounds like your B-Spec driver could use some practice (:

Thanks for the info - it'll come in handy when I get to those races. What are the cars in the Nurb endurance?

Not fair.

Should be able to save mid-race. Its still a game after-all.
It should have a choice for the noy-so hardcore gamers(or not so much time available) to have a chance to race it rather than B-spec it.

Just out of curiosity, are these races damaging to your PS2? I left Nurburgring 24hr on Bspec mode all night, overnight and finished it in the morning. The only thing on my mind was if my PS2 would have died before finishing.

I voted unfair since I'll use B-Spec on x3 thanks. As much as I like GT4, a 2 hour endurance against drone AI bores me, especially when they randomly ram me of the road for no apparent reason. Going round and round for 24 hours on the same track in the same car versus the same opponents in an game that will be outdated in the future anyway somehow doesn't appeal to me...

I agree, this race is just boring! Nothing to do , but go round and round all day long. I love using one car, but I love using more than one, not just one!

Fair? Unfair? I don't see this terminology applying to this very well.

Of course, the REAL chellenge of a 24 hour race is whether or not the car will endure, not the team of drivers.

Car breakdowns are not part of this simulation. Is that fair?

For most of the 24-hour races you have to play them fair because any car you throw at the AI is probably about the same as all the other ones excluding the F1.
If you use an F1 for a 24-hour race i dont consider it cheating because you had to have raced a fair 24-hour race to win it (Nurb 24).

My PS2 has been on continuously for a few years now (except for power outages and when I need to clean the lens) without any problems. I occasionally blow out the dust from the fan intakes but it's just a computer and computers are quite happy always being on. The DVD spins down when not in use so the only moving part is the fan and mine is still working.

F1 isnt really an unfair advantage at Le Sarte, those group C cars have much higher top speeds, the F1 is no good for any more than 400km/h (250mp/h) in steerable form.

I have a little different take. I'm doing the 24H Nurburgring now (about 17 hours done) in A-Spec mode and I am continuously trying to turn fast lap and I'm always calculating how far I am from the M3 race car (the second place car) and enjoying lapping him. I don't buy cars so I'm stuck with using the Jaguar for now (I also have the Camaro race car) and it's quite challenging. I manage to do 2-3 hours per evening and I leave my PS on all the time.

The familiarity I get for the 'ring now is phenomenal and I can't wait until Speedvision has a race there.

2-3 hours per evening is nothing. Heck, I spend so many hours trying to get the gold licenses that 2-3 hours at the 'ring is really fun compared to the gold licenses.

I've left my PS2 on for 4 days straight (Not in GT4 yet).. It's an old(ish) 35004, and so far, not a single hiccup - even with my self installed mod chip...

Those are cars like the BMW M Race Car, JGTC Cars, (NSX LM Race Cars, Mazda RX-7 LM Race Cars, 350Z LM Race Cars; am not so sure about these LM Cars though, because the C5R was just in my Le Mans Race) etc. Only dunno their laptimes. But I'll start this race tonight with my BMW McLaren F1 GTR Race Car, so then I'll know their laptimes.:)
