Timing is now recorded to the 10/1000th of a second (i.e. to 0.0001 second).

I'd like to see a dry race tomorrow, I don't want the championship being decided by Bridgestone not having a competitive inter.

Isn't 10/1000th a second the same as 1/100th of a second?

And it goes to 0.001 I think.

Slap me if I'm wrong 👍

Decent qualy today, good to see the Honda's performing (nearly called them BAR). Should be a good race tomorrow, Ferrari have it all to do.

Now to set my alarm to 6 tomorrow morning.

Yeah, you're right, I meant 1/10000th of a second (one ten-thousandth). They do have an accuracy of 0.0001 though. Other racing series now measure to this accuracy (including V8 Supercars), but they don't always show fastest laps, splits, gaps etc in their full accuracy.

With the grid, even with dry conditions, I can't see Ferrari getting ahead of both Renaults. It's unfortunate that such a drastic difference in tire performance plays such a large role in F1 results.

Ah well, looks like this will seal the championships for both Alonso and Renault... and Michilin. :)
The championship is not over. This race will just be a damage limitation exercise for Michael. All he has to do is make sure he’s still in with a shout for the next two races.

The championship will be decided by tyres no matter what the conditions for the next 3 races.
I should have said in my earlier post that it was a mighty impressive performance from M Schumacher. When the coverage cut to him on his do-or-die lap to get into the top 10 I was shouting at the TV and crossing my fingers, willing him on. I can't remember the last time I was so animated in my viewing. I can only think of one person I'd rather have had in the car at the time and I'm not sure he could have done any better.
Indeed, if you look at his performance over his nearest competitor on the same tyre, he was probably more dominant than Alonso.

I'm SO looking forward to a wet race. Gosh, even if Michelin wet tyres are superior, Alonso is beating the crap off his teammate and the rest of Michelin crew.

Ferrari took advantage of the FIA and Renault of his tyres. I don't see a problem :)

totally agree:tup:

Rubens is quite good at wet races so I won't mind if it rains. And I just saw the ad on tv, the race will be aired at 3am over here. Two and a half hours from the start, I'll try to keep awake.

They finally aired the qualifying session, and I cannot be any happier with the results. Renault one, two and both Ferraris far back. Sweet!

This was so needed for Renault. I had no hopes for Renault if they didn't gain an advantage, and appears they have earned themselves a big one.

This means the championship will go down to the last race, which makes the season, although a bit of a bore of late, even more exciting than ever.

It's still a toss up for Ferrari or Renault, but Renault is looking best of the two.

Looks good for the Michelin cars. The field looks to be starting with either full wet or intermediate tyres as the track is clearly wet and rain is still forcasted for at least the first half of the race.

Clean start, and Kimi made a brilliant pass on the left from his P5 position to jump to 3rd, but Alonso nearly lost control coming out of turns 3 & 4 on the first lap...

6 laps, and Schumy is already 20 seconds back from Alonso, but the track is starting to show some dry lines...

Schumy just posted the fastest time for sector 2 @ 31.7"...

Interesting race so far, but is it just my eyes or am I seeing something different about the rear rims of the Ferrari's?

Schumy is on a tare! Posting 2nd fastest lap times despite conditions & tyres and putting pressure on Fisichella and Raikkonin for 2nd position....

If the track continues to dry, those Michelin intervals will go from great to horid in a hurry...

Kimi is out with engine failure...

Great races going on throught the field! Kubica is making some brilliant passes!

Kimi is out (unknown mechanical failure) and Renault's pitwall has lost power.

edit: Thankfully the Midland-Spyker doesn't look like a McLaren any more, but now it looks like a Ferrari :(

edit2: Renault wall is back up, Kubica is out on dry tyres and it isn't working. He's already been off the track and is extremely slow.

Schumy has cut the gap down to only 12 seconds and still 31 laps to go, but Fisichella is doing an excellent job staying in between them...

Kubica has gambled and has switched to dry!!!! (EDIT: and paying for it with several spins, and a couple off road romps)

Massa has worked all the way through the field and is now in 6th. Ferrari is putting on quite the show all things conidered....

Schumy is now right behind the Renaults... this does not look good for both Alonso and Renault...

Damn this is intense between Alonso, Fisichella and Schumy! Kubica's dance around the track with dry tires was quite comical too.

That was a great pass by Alonso from Schumy!

Michael has passed Alonso and is quickly distancing himself, but Massa has fallen back to 9th...

There's something wrong with Alonso's car. But, Renault said there is no problem and he's controlling the race pace he wants. Yeah right. He just got passed by Fishi and Shoomi.

I think his tires in the front are gone and it may sound like he's got a gear problem. If so, it's over for Alonso.

Lap 34: Rosberg is next to experiment with slicks...

Shumy just posted the fastest lap 1:40.997

Lap 36: Massa is next to switch to slicks...

Alonso switchs to slicks, but has a problem in the pits due to the right rear wheel nut costing him an additonal ~12 seconds.

Alonso had problems with the right rear. Like in Hungry, which was the last wet race. It doesn't look good for him. At least he's got dries on.

Lap 38: Alonso's slicks are helping, he just posted a 1:41.512 a half second faster than Schumy on the same lap...

Lap 39: Schumy has switched to slicks....

13 Laps to go, and Schumy already has a 10 second lead ahead of 2nd place Fischella....

Alonso just posted fastest lap 1:39.163, but is still over 20 seconds back...

It's over now unless Schumy makes a mistake or has a mechanical problem...

Looks like Fisichela is slowing down to insure Alonso takes 2nd...

Massa is out... so Renault will takeover the lead in the Championship.

Fishi has done an amazing job today. I'm impressed. He's not the most reliable driver, but he's doing everything perfect today, so far.

Looks like Alonso just took second. Well done.

Lap 48: Alonso just posted another fastest lap time of 1:37.586, but still 12.6 seconds behind Schumy...

Skies are darkening.... 6 laps to go....
