That is interesting. Imagine the following scenario:

Japan:
Schu: 8 points
Alonso: 10 points

Brazil:
Schu: 8 points
Alonso: 6 points

7 wins and 6 2nd places for both of them. Who finished 3rd more often? :)
They would both have 1 3rd place finish. Neither have a 4th place finish, so it would come down to their 5th pace finishes. In which case Alonso would then win the Championship as he has two, and Schumacher has only one.

BTW: They would also end the season 9-9 in heads-up against each other.

That would certainly be a remarkable ending!

Code:
First 16 Races

M. Schumacher	2 6 R 1 1 2 5 2 2 1 1 1 8 3 1 1
Alonso 1 2 1 2 2 1 1 1 1 5 2 5 R 2 R 2

Schumacher-Alonso
Head-to-head:	8-8

#1:	7-6
#2:	4-6
#3:	1-0
#4:	0-0
#5:	1-2
#6:	1-0
#8:	1-0
Ret:	1-2

The battle for the last spot on the championship podium is also very close and may come down to a tie-breaking scenario:

Code:
63 Fisichella	R 1 5 8 6 3 6 4 4 3 6 6 R 6 4 3
62 Massa	9 5 R 4 3 4 9 5 5 2 3 2 7 1 9 R
57 Räikkönen	3 R 2 5 4 5 R 3 3 R 5 3 R R 2 R

Fisichella-Massa-Räikkönen

#1:	1-1-0
#2:	0-2-2
#3:	3-2-4
#4:	3-2-1
#5:	1-3-3
#6:	5-0-0
#7:	0-1-0
#8:	1-0-0
#9:	0-3-0
Ret:	2-2-6

Yes... đź’ˇ but he hasn't got that one yet, so I didn't count it... :dunce:

RouWa was asking what would happen in that scenario. Alonso and MS would be equal on wins, seconds and thirds. What would happen?

DQ & Sureshot... look above your posts:

Man, anyone else loving the new 555 world racing paint scheme?! I'm loving it more every time I see it!

Please. Please let it happen. I wouldn't care who won, just the fact that the 5th place finishes decided the championship would be awesome.

Alonso was the unluckiest man in China on Sunday. Michael did really well on Bridgestones against the Michelin runners. I'm really pleased for Webber getting a point for Williams.

It's for China only though.

Alonso is at it again...

"Not everyone at Renault wants me to win."

"The whole team is gutted, apart from the handful of people who don't want me to take No1 to McLaren."

- Fernando Alonso, following the Chinese grand prix

He is now claiming some memebers of the Renault Formula One team do not want him to win this year's world championship as it would mean fierce rivals McLaren could brandish the coveted No1 on their car next season.

I'm beginning to wonder why he even bothers to race. Afterall, to him, everyone is consipring against him, now he even thinks some members of his own team want him to lose.

Frankly, after witnessing so many of his unprofessional, childish antics, both on and off the track, who can blame them. I am really disappointed. I was a big fan of Alonso last year, and still appreciate his abilities, but his fist waving in races, finger pointing post race comments, constant complaining and whinning, and public accusations, most of which come off more like paronia then actual inteligent observations, have left me thinking far less of him lately.

Maybe with Schumacher gone next year, and Alonso joining McLaren, he will have a better attitude. If not, I can see him becoming a real distraction and sore spot for Formula One. Allthough, maybe a John McEnroe type F1 driver may add some much needed drama to F1? ;)

Ooo, I managed to stay awake! Now let's watch it. 👍
... and with ten minutes into the race I fell asleep. :ouch:

In Japan the race will be one hour earlier so I'll probably manage to stay awake during the whole race, hopefully.

I haven't heard of any "many of his unprofessional, childish antics, both on and off the track," before. What's this all about? When and where did these take place?

Who's decision was it to replace the front tires only?

Meh . . . Alonso doesn't want to take the blame for anything it seems. Perhaps he realizes his driving style in part caused the error, then the strategy Renault had to gamble on just didn't work.

Fisichella was just driving for the WCC and under those circumstances would probably feel there's no reason for Alonso's lack of pace to rub off on him. Perhaps some feel he should drive to aid his teammate, but maybe he disagrees. After all, he's certainly not in contention for the WDC. Crazy theory, I know.

Tomorrow we expect Alonso to hit out at global warming, which must also be responsible for the loss of the championship lead.
Well, think about it! In Hungary, it had never rained before. Alonso's problem came while changing from wet to dry tires. Had it not rained, that wouldn't have happened. In Monza, it was warmer than usual, overheating his engine and causing it to explode. Coincidence? I think not. In China, the absurd pollution, combined with humid weather, seeded clouds which made it rain. Then, the sun peeked out for a split second and melted his front tires.

MANBEARPIG IS ON THE LOOSE!!!

By the way, even though I'm a big Alonso fan (betcha didn't know that!), I think he should keep his big mouth shut. It never helps to take digs at your team and or/teammates. Professional athletes have a habit of saying stupid things and acting like huge ingrates, despite the fact that they're getting paid millions of dollars (or Euros) to do their "job". If Alonso doesn't like F1 anymore, I'll gladly trade places with him :D.

Just look out for the black helicopters and Chupacabra. That's why Jarno Trulli's with Toyota, instead of Renault.
