White flag... 2 laps to go, track still dry, and Schumy's lead is 7.8 seconds.

Great final battle between Heidfeld, Barri, Button and DLR!

Schumy wins (next closest Bridgstone car was Webber in 8th), Alonso only 3.1 seconds back!

Schumacher takes the lead in the driver's championship with a fantastic drive. Anyone who thinks he's past it only has to watch the quali and race from this weekend to have their mind changed. It's a shame Alonso lost the race in the pits, but I'm glad Schumacher took this one. Somehow Ferrari managed to turn potentially their worst weekend to their favour.

W00t! Schumy with his 91st win! I liked that little destruction derby there on the last lap.

Fantastic race! Not too happy about how Alonso finished, and who beat him, but it was a damn good race to watch.

Sato strikes again. Oh Lord, strike that poor boy down.

Nice punt by Barichello.

Off to Japan!

EDIT: Wow! Alonso is pissed! Did you see him storm off?

EDIT II: Alonso on the podium. LOL! Looks like somebody just shot his dog!

I have a question. What would happen in the event of a tie in points for 1st place championship standings at the end of the season?

I think the first tiebreak is wins, but I'm not completely 100% sure on that.

If 2 drivers are level, it goes on the number of wins.

If they're still level, it goes on the number of 2nd places, then 3rds and so on.

F1 regulations
If two or more constructors or drivers finish the season with the same number of points, the higher place in
the Championship (in either case) shall be awarded to :
a) the holder of the greatest number of first places,
b) if the number of first places is the same, the holder of the greatest number of second places,
c) if the number of second places is the same, the holder of the greatest number of third places and so
on until a winner emerges.
d) if this procedure fails to produce a result, the FIA will nominate the winner according to such criteria
as it thinks fit.

I love d....

Have to admit, Button's new livery is doing things to me ... any idea why there was a change (pardon my ignorance, I've been out of the world for a spell)? I was under the impression Mr E. said no to running cars with different strips back when BAR was first founded ...

So if Schumacher and Alonso DNF the next two races, Schumacher is world champion?

So who is WC if this happens:

Japan: Alonso 0 P, Schumacher 5
Brasil: Alonso: 10 P, Schumacher 5

Yes, Schumacher currently has 7 wins to Alonso's 6.

Alsonso. He currently has 6 2nd places to Schumacher's 4.

If Schumacher wins the next race and Alonso doesn't score any points he'll be world champion too, no matter what happens at the last race.

I can see it now. Ferrari change their aero-package for Brasil so it includes chariot-style spike son the wheel and a viking-warship ram on the front.

I wonder if Schumi will resort to his old tactics....

That is interesting. Imagine the following scenario:

Japan:
Schu: 8 points
Alonso: 10 points

Brazil:
Schu: 8 points
Alonso: 6 points

7 wins and 6 2nd places for both of them. Who finished 3rd more often? :)

Honda has a tradition of running different liveries in Shanghai, they've done so in all 3 Shanghai races.

Thanks. I've only just started to get back into F1 with the announcement that Schumacher is retiring (can't stand the man, though I respect him for what he can do) and rule changes that will (hopefully) level out the playing field next year. I know cigarette sponsorship is pretty much being banned outright and I thought Honda was bringing the change in early or something. I've since found 555 is also a cancer-stick company.

Haha Alonso is officially screwed then.

Decent race, worth getting up early for. Kimi's reliability problems strike again, geeze this man's finishing record must be poor yet it isn't really his fault most of the times..

Button drove a superb final 4 laps, although I'm sure the Aguri HONDA helped in some way.. :dunce: Barrichello was punted from behind by De La Rosa, thus pushing him into Hiedfeld who at the time was also on for a decent finish.

And trust F1's newest driver to be made guinea pig and try slicks first out of the entire field..

Suzuka will be great if the conditions are the same.
:D

Sato has been disqualified for not getting out the way on the last lap, when Heidfeld, Button, Barrichello & De la Rosa were all fighting over 4th.

Stewards disqualify Sato

Super Aguri’s Takuma Sato has lost his 14th-place finish in Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix after stewards disqualified him for blocking faster drivers during the Shanghai race.

Sato was the backmarker involved in a final-lap incident, which culminated in Honda’s Rubens Barrichello running into the rear of Nick Heidfeld’s BMW Sauber.

The severity of Sato’s punishment reflects the fact that he has already been reprimanded for ignoring blue flags this season, in Australia back in April.

Also, Albers has had 25 sconds added to his time, also for ignoring blue flags, but actually moves up a place due to Sato's DQ!

I was wondering if Fisichella would give Michael a taste of his own medicine after the second pit stop. Oh, how that would have changed things!

On the other hand, Renault seems to be smoking the whacky-tobaccy recently. They seem to have progressed backwards as the season has gone along. Too many mistakes and errors in strategy.

I think Sato had too much sake before the race. Really, all he had to do was get over to the right and go as slowly as usual, and that whole free-for-all would have been avoided. I was hoping Nick Heidfeld would start a ChampCar-esque scrap after the race.

Now thats just stupid. (reffering to Sato's DQ)

Sato was behind Albers on the racetrack, yet ahead in position. Using simple deductive reasoning, that means that Sato was lapping Albers. Albers should have got out of Sato's way, while at the same time Sato should have gotten out of the way of Heidfeld, Button, Rubens and De la Rosa. Sato didnt have much choice to do anything. Just a messy situation, a racing situation. DQ is rather harsh.

On the upside, SA can be happy that both cars finished and that Sato outpaced the Spykers and Scott Speed.

Poor Kubica unlucky with the tire choice. Other than the first lap off (dont know the circumstances though) his driving was downright impressive, passing cars at will and getting within 8 seconds of his teamate before the disaster tire choice.

Good Points for Honda, yay. Hopefully the new engine at Japan will boost our performance even more.

Man, Kimi is just not having his season.

Kubica also suprised me. First man I've seen drift a F1 car that close off the pavement.

And who was the young rookie I kept hearing about making spectacular passes?

That wasn't drifting, that was sliding. I think Kubica spent more of that one lap off the track than he did on. Brave man, but you just can't overcome the laws of physics :).

Fisi nearly gave ol' Schumy, as you say, "a taste of his own medecine." I agree though, that would have been interesting. One thing that Formula 1 needs to find when Schumi leaves, a driver who shows enthusiasm with every win, heck, every podium. I'm affraid of, as Bob Varsha put it on the U.S. SPEED broadcast "Senna and Prost looked like they were going to the executioners room." From what I can tell, I don't see one driver with near the enthusiasm of Michael and that is a shame.

Looks like the championship will go down to the wire...

Sounds like it was a cracker of a race - shame it's going to be on Prime at the time I'm watching Bathurst on TV One :grumpy:

Go Alonso (I don't like MSC)! (wonder if he'll repeat what he did at Suzuka last year: going right around the outside of Schumi at the 130R)

There's always Monterio..

Oh no, Sato is disqualified. Just think of all the points he's going to lose.

Awesome race. Alonso was totally dominant in his driving, but the team was retarded.

Kimi probably would have won that if he didn’t have the throttle failure. :(

Fisichella was, as usual, useless.

Schumacher and Ferrari were brilliant.

Great race, and a great championship. You can’t ask for much more.

Bolded is a 3rd place, is it not? :dopey:
