Perhaps ... spitwads ... made of tissue. AND DIPPED IN ACID!

Would have to be acid proof paper, magic acid proof paper :)

WTF:odd: . Did you two enter the twilight zone last night?

I think so. I decided to stop the madness and go home (:

*hums twilight zone theme*

BWA HAHAHAHAHAH

*thunder crackles*

So does that mean that i have to buy an external hard drive to play GT4 or could i just use my PS2 the way i used it to play GT3??

you most likely wont need to buy a HD to play GT4, but if you want to play it to its maximum potential, then you'll probably need a HD. BUT it doesnt have to be external. theres a hatch in the back of the PS2 that you can open and thats where to HDD will go. thats also where the broadband adapter goes, but only on the outside. the broadband adapter attaches to the back of the harddrive if you have a harddrive.

Well i'll be satisfied without the full potential that's for sure. So no need for HD talk anymore i understand now and thank alot for the info. I'll be waiting for GT4 as long as it doesn't come out in the summer. Hopefully this month or next month.

Loud Music is right, they wont let you cache game disks because of people inevitably pirating games that way.

LoudMusic is maybe right in terms of features, but you are totally wrong and, as usual - as all people who presume instead of know - you don't know what you're talking about.

Caching game on PS2 HDD is totally possible and in use right now. You can play FFXI from HDD, Everquest and Biohazard Outbreak, and those are the games I know about.

GT4 will not be an excuse in caching the game onto HDD, and pirating the game from HDD is not an PS2 feature (and it will never be due to certain hardware limitiations and specs), it's an clear Xbox feature, but since I do not condend pirating I will not make any further explains.

I dont understand what u r talking about.... Do u mean that we can't play a pirated version of GT4 on our PS2s??

I was talking about pirating the PS2 game from HDD (which is like totally unnecessary, but as I said I don't want to talk about piracy), and not about playing pirated game on PS2.

It was an hardware-related topic.

What the hell are you talking about? This isn't a "feature" on any console. The only way it's being done now is with mod-chips and hacking the XBox. This is currently an "illegal act", though I disagree with that law. If I own it I should be able to do as I please with it.

Actually it's a software and hardware related topic. It takes software to copy the game to the hard drive. And I still don't see why it's unnecessary. Do you understand that copying the games to the hard drive will make them play faster? Everything will load nearly 10x faster. There will be nearly no pauses in the game while it seeks for data to load and spends time loading it, because the hard drive is so much faster.

And as far as piracy is concerned, there are ways for the developer to make it very difficult to pirate games, but there are always ways around this.

It appears to me that you are the one presuming, and lacking in knowing.

HEHEEHEHE!!!! I am soooooo lucky. I am getting a free hard drive from SONY coz I beta tested FFXI. I thought hard drive would only be good for storing saved data to save money but now...... GT4 awesome!!!!!

The PS2 Hdd will also allow the downloading of patches, which is a major plus.
Not all games are perfect masterpieces of computer programming.
Alot of games have flaws that can never be fixed.
If they rush GT4, even that game will have bugs that will need memory card/Hdd space to fix.

But they have to include in the game a way for it to check the hard drive for code changes that it needs to substituite in place of whats on the game disk. Even that can be flawed (:

I really hope that the HD can be used to download new tracks and cars. Even cooler, I hope it'll be possible to edit paint schemes in Photoshop on a PC, then sent them to the PS2 an duse them in GT.

I'd rather just be able to plug in my external HD. I also wouldn't have to go and get a second mem card for which they rip you off. :irked:

OK. One at a time.

As PS2 pirating is concerned, I was talking about that there is no need to pirate PS2 via HDD unit, and I guess you know why. Pirating via HDD has been done strictly on Xbox, and I gues you know why too. If you don't, PM me and I'd be glad to dicuss it outside the public arena.

As for "unnecessary", I sad it is unecessary to copy the PS2 game onto HDD to be pirated. Try to read more preciselly.

As for the loading times, I was talking the same thing on my post on the first page, so feel free to read it.

And sorry dude, maybe you didn't understand or read well what I have written, but I do not presuming anything because I do not write of things I'm not sure about. Feel free to check all my posts so far and to realise it for yourself. And no hard feelings, of course, after all, we all serve to the same goal.

PS2 hard drive = pointless.

I'm sure I've seen a thing on play that lets you use your pcs hard drive for about £20

I personally reckon the new hardrive is an awsome idea!:)

I mean, as new cars are released on the market, sony can givem to us for free!

Defintely extends the life of GT4:)

I wouldn't say it's pointless. But I would say it is poorly implemented.

What do you mean by "use your pcs hard drive" ??

i don care about the hard drive... coz im gonna get one for free anyways coz i beta tested FFXI. Sweet. And yes, you can use it as a memory card. but u have to transfer files from hdd to memery card tho in irder to use the file. i don know if they changed it for the retail version.

As in, in the "Browser" screen that loads when you don't have a disk in and you can view all the files on your memory card you can also see all the files on the hard drive? And then copy them to and from? Spiffy. In that case I would say it requires some kind of special software / hardware changes to be made that are not done by the Linux Kit, as my hard drive does not show up in the PS2 Browser.

The ps2 hdd is prolly gunna be like 40 maybe becuase i saw it bein sold with final fantasy X2. FYI

when they first released info on the HDD, they said that it would expand like 10 gigs every year or so, but the price would stay the same. so next year, it might be 50 gigs and so on. not sure if this is gonna happen tho.

I've not heard anything about that - I also find it unlikely as I don't believe they will sell very many units, and the next generation console is not too far away.

Sounds perfectly logical to me, for the simple reason that the harddrive that is produced the most is the harddrive that is also cheapest. So next year that will be a bigger one than this year, and so on.

Just clear some things up for me:
Why is it illegal? I can copy my pc games to my HDD under fair use, is it some insane application of the DCMA?

Patches can be applied using the memory card - a patch for SOCOM has just been released that doesn't require a HDD, so ATM I see the whole thing as fairly pointless.

Illegality - not everyone acts under 'fair use' (:

The HDD should be significantly faster than the memory card. Though I would think it would be the other way, the memory cards have proven to be quite slow.
