My vette was running at exactly 1400kg with only 4kg of ballast added on, so no cheating here.

EDIT: It appears I have been ninja'd :dopey:

:trouble:

easy check to make sure everyone complies with both the PP and KG restriction is for the host to temporarily change the room restriction from PP to 1400kg with everyone on the track in practise then switch it back. the people who are not in compliance will be booted off the track.

shouldnt have to do that but....

my camaro is at stock (1415 kg) weight. The L46 Vette I ran on Daytona is right at 1400 (ballast).

It is supposed to start at 9:30 but I haven't been getting online that early lately. The room will be open sometime between 9:30-10:00 and the number will be posted here.

is the PST?

I saw you (SohnVonStig) with the spoiler and figured that was your demise at Daytona. It just takes too much power away. You can make back time in the turns, but if you can't get around someone, you'll never get to the front. Daytona has such a long straight you basically just have to draft to keep up.

My tune was complete crap at Daytona. I must have looked completely out of control from behind. I had no clue where the limit was with the car. It would plow on every turn and then exiting the turn the rear end would break loose. I didn't spend enough time tuning. I'm not sure how to approach these cars. I had tried stiff settings to reduce body roll but I wasn't getting any front grip. Then I tried soft settings to get more weight on the front tires but that didn't help either. Any tips on tuning the muscle cars would be appreciated.

I have to admit it was a bit frightening to follow you there for a long while :) I should have won that race if I hadn't been a complete idiot and gotten friendly with the bus stop wall :)

I couldn't get in the Daytona race last night as I was in the lobby when the countdown started, but I ended up watching.

SohnVonStig, it would've been an awesome win coming from something like 9th to 1st on the last lap, but alas.... the bus stop.

Yeah, I was very twitchy in that car. I had a decent qualifying run and was in the 2nd row at the start. It didn't take long for me to fall back though. Join us another night when I'm a little more confident. I'm not a bad driver...really :scared: I think we traded paint in the infield too. Side by side I tried to go around you on the outside but I was all over the place on the brakes. I really want that Cougar to be quick. It's got the power to run up front. I just need to figure out the suspension. Maybe adding some weight to the rear will help. At times it just feels like I have a boat anchor under the hood.

Yup that's what I get for going off in turn 1 as well :(

Yeah I was all over you for laps 2 and 3 in the infield and then the straights you'd just come flying by  Then at the bus stop I was getting soooo frustrated because I felt that you were coming to a dead stop! :p That thing looked like it was the most understeering pig I've ever seen.

Thats why I want to try a single make race. There will be no sleepers
I know that most are faster than me, but I also know they are better tuners.

i am totally down for this... if i can ever get back online to race. one make race. same mods for everyone, or completely stock. try to keep the pp less than 500. would be hard for rm cars though.

Decide on a car and I'll add it to the schedule...
* must be a premium (so people don't have to search)
* should be no more than 550pp with everything installed (450 preferred)
* should be something fun for everyone to drive

Perhaps start with a Spec 91 Miata/Enos. Maxed out with mods it shouldn't be much over 450pp.

Miata gets driven a bit on ragtop nights so just going to make some alternate suggestions.

300 SL Coupe '54 ~400PP
Golf V GTI '05 ~400PP
RX-7 GT-X (FC) '90 ~400PP

Of those, I think the 300 SL would be different and fun but not sure what others think.

The sl drives like a boat and has the worst brakes in the history of man :p

My suggestions :)

Audi TT Coupe 3.2 quattro 03' 57k
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IV GSR 96 30k
Mazda Autozam AZ-1 '92 14,980 :dopey:

All three are easy cars to drive (close racing yay) and the autozam is absolutely brilliant if fully modded :p Since it comes stock with 63 hp I wouldn't exactly recommend running it that way.

That's good to hear, because I've just tuned up one that I'm going to use tonight :D

 Hope you swapped the suspension!

I like the Rx-7. Great car...in fact thats what i'm planning on running tonight.

I did that, along with the custom LSD and such. I also bought all of the weight reductions so that should help with the boat-like handling :p I did a few test laps around Suzuka and while it is controllable on the comfort soft tires, it isn't very quick. Although to be honest it's not like I expected it to be fast, I'm using it because I like the way it looks and I enjoy driving it. 👍

Also expect me to whip out the Samba Bus tonight as well. It handles well on sports softs, but I've yet to try it on comfort softs...

Does it matter tonight between MR, FR, and RR? Not sure when the room will be up, but I'm just heading out for grub and wont be online till 9:30 EST at the earliest.

MR, FR, and RR are all fine. Each will have its strengths. I dont have much time to tune so i hope one of my SS cars translates well to CS. If not, i know one of my 86 MR2s was set up for CS tires for a Seasonal Event last month.

Sent friend req to chuyler1

My suggestions for spec night...

S13 Silvia (fun but forgiving, and no one ever drives it so it might even it out a bit)

FC RX-7 (not very popular either with pretty tricky handling)

NC or NA Miata (some people might have a killer setup already)

Room is open

Please send friend req to chuyler1 if you are new.

Tonight will be Open Night on the 'ring. We've had lots of car restrictions in past weeks both on Wednesdays and the other nights, so I thought I'd open it up for this week. I plan to run a couple 2 lap affairs as well as single lappers. Track is Nurburgring Change Time and expect some races in the dark.

450pp, Sport Soft. No RC/RM/Tuner.

I will post up the room number around 9:30 EST.

Last night was loads of fun. My Garayia was crazy fast in the corners but had absolutely no speed on the straight. I switched to the 97 MR2 for Suzuka but it was really loose mid corner. I ended up resetting the suspension to default and removing the LSD. It was still loose but I started the race anyway because I had spent too much time trying to figure it out and I noticed people parking and waiting. I managed to work my way up from last place. I would've never caught the leaders but anyone that made the slightest mistake I got around. Uploading the video now.

Monaco was fun too. I made some ride height adjustments and dialed out most of the oversteer, but it was borderline understeer in some places and oversteer in others. I did my best to keep up and was battling for position until the last turn. I got disconnected from the lobby when the race ended so I wasn't able to save the replay.

Overall, I thought it was a real fun night. The Comfort Soft tires can be a blast. I drive much more cautiously with them on, especially when they are cold. For some reason whenever I exited to the pits to check everyone's cars, I would get dumped to the back of the starting grid. No chance of catching the leaders starting that far back, but it is fun picking off drivers one by one.

Did everyone enjoy the CS tires? Should we do this theme again?

Yes, i've been following it. I actually used that technique to produce immediate results with my MR2 last night. Right away it was oversteering on entry as well as mid corner. I changed just the ride height from 0/0 to -5/+5 and it started understeering immediately. I finally settled on -3/+3. I'm not sure of the logic, but it worked beautifully.

So... has anyone seen this thread or heard of this issue?

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=202692

seems to be causing a stir in some tuning forums, but would be interesting to test. i know i have a hard time tuning cars because i try to use real world logic too much.

We were testing the hide-height issue back in January during Season 1 of the Spec Miata series. It's amazing how something as important as this can spread so much slower than, say, an exploit that gains large amounts of money and xp.

Prior to reading the thread, I never really messed with ride height aside from maybe dropping both by 5 to 10. Anyway, it is very interesting and the results are immediately noticeable.

Ride-height changes definitely have the most obvious impact on a car's handling characteristics. Once I have the balance pretty close to where I want it, I typically use the remaining adjustments as a way to fine tune the oversteer/understeer created by ride-height changes due to the dramatic effect even a one increment change in variance between front and rear has on overall feel.

Last night was a blast. I've never ran on CStires until last night. Wow that was a treat trying to figure out the suspension setup last night. Fianlly got the front end to grip, but had trouble dialing in the rear. But after reading the forum thread on the suspension game problems, its no wonder why i couldn't figure it out.

Hopefully i didn't piss anyone off last night with that RX-7
