45nm Core 2 duo's are here.

How does $224 seem high for a 3Ghz C2D?

I paid $360 (before any price drops) for my 2.4Ghz 1066 FSB E6600.

Yeah, that seems like a pretty fair price. Hopefully this trend continues, so when I build a computer everything will be super cheap.

So...would these dual cores be better than a build with one of the newer quad cores? :\ I was thinking quad core but damn if these things can run 3ghz+ without too much extra spending my mind is starting to sway towards the duals.

Depends on how well the software you're going to run can manage the multiple cores.

I note that the new quad core AMD Phenom processor had its arse handed to it on a plate by an Intel Core 2 Q6600, and that wasn't even a 45nm Penryn. (See RegHardware for the review)
