4Wd drifting

I like 4wd because I'm new to drifting ATM all Noobs gotta start somewhere lol
and everybody did start somewhere, nothing wrong about that
but as 19Gvan said, you might want to start slowly with RWDs making sure you learn the good ways with them.

Seriously another 4wd thread?

I give it a week max and this gets shut down by a mod.

You's say you gotta start drifting somewhere. Yeah you start drifting with a rwd, low hp, a solid supply of old tyres and cheap missile car.

I'll keep my mouth shut next time lol I only asked a question and end up getting 🤬 Just for asking a question lol
People telling you don't do it are idiots. Do whatever you want, drift whatever you want. Just ignore the wannabe elitist. To answer your question no I do not have a drift setup but if I see one I will send you it to you.

some of these clowns are just intolerable idiots dude

DRIFTING IS ANYTHING THATS SLIDING SIDEWAYS PEOPLE AND WE ARE ALL TRYING TO HAVE FUN STOP BEING JERKS TO PEOPLE WITH HONEST INTENTIONS AND QUESTIONS

When you go around a corner with no counter steering input while sliding a 4wd or even rwd it's power sliding.
If you understood what proper drifting is you wouldn't try and class 4wd power sliding in the same group as rwd drifting.

It's easy to slide a 4wd.
Approach corner, feint away from corner, power off, turn in heavily to upset balance, power on ( usually not needed if small corner ), hold angle by keeping wheel straight with small corrections, power out of turn.

Any 4wd slider I guarantee if you think it's harder than proper drifting in a rwd, you're barking up the wrong tree.

Accually, you're wrong. to get a real 4wd drift, with a lot of smoke, you will have to go in at a very high speed, flick it around, so that you basicly are doing backwards, then go full throttle. By this point, you will have to keep 90%-100% throttle ALL the way out of the corner to not stall the drift. You have very little correctionposibillity, unlike RWD that can be corrected bretty much all the time. (Words from leader of Norwegian Carsport Federation, leader of Norwegian Racing Federation, Madmike, Gitten JR and Aasbø, i take their words over pretty much anyone, anyday)

Powersliding is an oversteer technique that uses power to initiate and sustain a drift.

Most all-wheel drive cars can't initiate using "power over", since they send torque to the front axle, which counters the drift. Only a few all-wheel drive cars can initiate using "power over", and even fewer can sustain a powerslide.

In other words, you've got it the wrong way around. Rear wheel drive cars powerslide. Everything else simply drifts.

Don't start **** about AWD drifting guys, the mods will put your head a spike.

👍 Nah. We simply pluck your eyeballs out and use them to play ping-pong. :D

There's a difference between "drifting" the sport and "drifting" the action. The difference being simply "drifting" for the heck of it doesn't have to follow any arcane rules or prescriptions instituted simply to make the sport easier to compete in, judge and watch. ;)

That rule was instituted because the GT5 drifting forum became a very hostile and unfriendly place towards newbies and people who wanted to experiment and do new things. We try to be accomodating to everyone here at GTP, and that includes drifters who want to try out four-wheel drive and even front-wheel drive cars.

I'm so done with people not understanding what drifting is.
Too many Ken Block fanboys in this world

What Ken Block does is exhibition Gymkhana mixed with drifting elements. It's not pure Gymkhana. Not enough autocross elements and no reverse 180 parking. But those are optional.

I don't see where the confusion lies.

"Drifting" is a rally technique, nothing more, nothing less. Performed by grizzled Finnish men driving rattly old Ford Escorts and Morris Minis.

It's not some holy incantation that can only be performed with a manual transmission Nissan Silvia by the light of the full moon, aided by the blood sacrifice of a cross-eyed hen.

And the moment people stop pretending it is, the happier everyone will be.

As we've said in the GT5 drifting forum, you don't have to allow all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive drifters into your multiplayer lobbies. (I would heartily advise against it, the lines and techniques are too different, impossible to tandem with them in a RWD) But you can't dictate what people do or do not post in the forum.

Im gonna guess you aimed that one at me. And no, im not a Ken Block fan. Sure he is a good driver, but still, a little overrated IMO. Altho im a fan of people who can respect what others do, and people that do thing othery way (yay hipster, not.) It may not be any competitions for it, but 4wd is a thing, accept it or not. And as i said, If Formula Drift drivers says you can drift a 4wd, im pretty sure you can.

I'm personally not a fan of Ken block. Although he's a very good driver. If you are so against it then leave gtp. Simples.

I'm sorry did drifting originate from Finland with people driving on dirt?
Uh no it didn't

Apparently you're not going to listen to anyone with common sence, so i dont know whats going on. As Niky said, go on, ban all 4wd/ff, and drift on, but ffs, stop wining on GtPlanet just because you dont like anything but rwd

Wow, trolling the mods huh?
Drifting, is actually taken from rally racing JDM. Quite clearly and obviously. Back in 1907 in Monte Carlo. So, no, not the Fins, The Monegasques. Drifitng as a asport originated in Japan, but the techniques are taken from rally racing.

Now, tp the OP and the point of the post, check this one out. Most of it will hold true too for awd.

Just maybe use a bit less camber up front.

And for the record, I am a fan of Ken Block. He has brought a resurgence of rally to America, is like the only American currently racing in the WRC at the top level, and makes some awesome to watch, magically editted videos that are a stellar example of car control. Don't know him personally, may be a dick. But he has done great things for the automotive world. And also for the record, before you blame him for a whole slew of no-nothing fan boys wrecking the scene. Yeah, thats been around for generations, I have no doubt Steve Mcqueen caused the same thing to happen when Le Mans, The Getaway and Bullit came out. Idiots are not a new thing, they have been around since the dawn of time. You can't blame someone like Ken Block for someone elses ignorance.

This is actually a really simple topic. I don't like 4WD powersliding, or people that claim they are better 'drifters' because they are faster because of it.

However, the moderators have made a clear statement about this, and we should respect that.

Pretty much this. Some people will never accept AWD drifting or whatever you want to call it. I don't really accept it either, but I'm not going to loose sleep about it. When it comes to drifting on tarmac now a days it generally means taking a RWD car. And if you want to bring an AWD car to the mix expect people to turn it down. There is a lot different between those drivetrain setups. The technique is different, the speed is different, and the line is completely different. It's very hard to near impossible to drift the cars tandem. So unfortunately they shouldn't really be on the same track as each other. Maybe someday PD will allow drivetrain mods so we can make them RWD. Also like others have said drifting an AWD car doesn't make it easier. It just makes it different. I suggest picking a proper RWD car when playing online with others or just starting out. I believe you will learn faster. And if you want to try out AWD then get in a room where it's accepted and maybe others will join you. Either way AWD drifting is considered the ugly cousin by the majority.
