That's the best live action picture that I've seen on the `Net of the 787B. But I don't think that's the one that Mazda ran. Mazda's didn't have that kind of wheel on the front - it was open like the back wheels. Still really awesome!

I touched them up a bit for color quality.

thanks for the compliment but what do you mean thats not the one mazda run, it is a mazda from the 1989 or 1990 or 1991 le mans where mazda won the race..

This other photo would suggest otherwise

They may have changed to a disc wheel for a while late in the race - did it rain at Le Mans '91? Teams quite often run disc wheels to stop brakes overcooling down Mulsanne.

they did run that front wheel at LeMans, and short course circuits. "The wheel" (as I understand it) is designed for high breaking circuits, which LeMans would be because of the straight. I'm trying to remeber, but I can't remeber if they ran the wheel in qualifying and the race or just qualifying. That style of wheel was designed to flow air better through the wheel. They didn't run that wheel in the rain though, as it actually kept water in the wheel at high speed.

Excellent pics vat_man. I'm at work, and looking at those makes me want to go home and play GT3 and LeMans 24hours. Thank heavens for the PS2.

I 'remembered incorrectly' from this thread http://forums.gtplanet.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3782&highlight=787b . I knew there were several 787Bs that ran in LeMans, but I also thought they were owned by different companies. As vat_man pointed out, they were prepaired by Oreca, which I misstakenly remembered as "ran by Oreca". Sorry for the confusion (:
