What shall we do about tyre wear?

Been to Brands for all BTCC events over the last three years. Always great fun.

I'd love to go there, or Oulton Park but they are too far away :(
The only track i live relatively near to is Castle Combe, and no BTCC there

I have only ever been to 'Y Trac' anglesey (top gear testing circuit) and Donnington for the superbikes.

I'm hoping to go to Donnignton this year for the BTCC, never been there before. What's it like ?

I thought it was a fantastic circuit, it was a while back but you are really close to the action there. I got to walk around the garages afterwards as long as you didnt interfere with the teams 👍

any alfa guys fancy sharing a setup for autumn ring? im using standard setup and just understeering everywhere, tyres shot after only a handful of laps

i think i will just stay out of the way for both races, im really not coming along consistent with my times and keeping the tyres at a suitable wear level, its really bugging me! same with the lsd tuning

Hey guys, nice racing tonight. Ill work on the OP in a minute, any complaints you have let me know. It was clean from my point of view :D

Spurgey- That guy is awesome 👍

I like this one, unfortunate name for a song though :D

OP sorted 👍

Awesome vids 👍

Worked out I just need to get 8th in one race and i dont even need to race the other and i will be guaranteed the championship :D

Some awesome racing tonight, really enjoyed it.
At autumn Wordup was pulling away in the first few laps but i clawed it back and we were very even. With Tyrell racing well about 2 seconds down the road.
But the Wordup went into the gravel and gifted me first place, tyrell pushed me till the end of the first stint, maintaining a 2 second gap.
But i can only guess his tyres went as i pulled out about 10 seconds and brung it home :D

The start at eiger was as predicted....mayhem
I really hung back on the way down to the first corner, a lagging Dave compromised a few people so i nabbed 4 places on the first corner. I then worked my way through the pack and at the end of the first stint i was right on the back of wordup who was in second.
I pitted a lap before the first two, and managed to get wordup in the pits, so then i set mu sights on Brett. I got him a few laps later on the outside of the long right hander :D

I slowly pulled away but on the last lap i spun on the twisty bit and almost lost the lead, but i managed to keep it and won by a second

Good racing tonight fellas, had an OK race at Autumn Ring, especially hunting down Joe :-D we had a good few laps, and he was even good enough to stop and wait after pushing me into the pit wall for the mini circuit haha, which was a shame, as up to that point, I had done an OK job of keeping Mike in his pesky Alfa behind me lol :-p

Really sorry to everybody at the start of race 2, as soon as the race started I knew my connection was gonna cause problems, although I did get a giggle at seeing various cars scrape past on their roofs, and fly over the top of me, before T1 turned into a giant smoke screen and multi car pile up..... At which point the game froze and I was left with no option but to reboot the game.

My problem there lies with the weather, and my now fairly dated wifi modem, which will be upgraded in the next few weeks when my renewal comes round.......

Nice report Pagey, well done on the win 👍

Dave, I didnt see anything but I havent had any complaints yet 👍

Sorry about geting you into the mini track's pit wall, I get horrible understeer round that corner and hadn't slowed down enough to make it round there with you on the outside. It looked like a small tap on my screen, but that was all it took sadly. 👎

Mate don't worry it's fine :D Really I should of dropped back for that corner to make an attempt on the inside line, but knowing me, I probably would have slid wide, and bumped you anyway :D

You did the gentlemanly (is that even a word?) thing, and stopped, even though Mike got past.....

I had fun chasing you down though man, it gave me chance to practice my competitive driving a little, as lets be honest, I'm poop at it :P

Monza (no chicane) next week guys - I can already guarantee that I will brake for the chicane, even though it won't be there lol!!

Nurburgring GP/D for race 2 to follow...... Shame it aint the Nordshleife, as I am starting to rock forwards and backwards with anticipation as to how I will do at my favourite track in the entire world!

Monza might turn out to be a walk in the park for the Mercs :nervous:
We got the 'green hell' next season (from memory) so you will have to save it for there!

Oh boy the Eiger race was meh :D
I was 3rd and spun out befor the Tunnel directly infront of Pagey -_- This costed me the Race because all of you drove perfectly without spinning (except Pagey who spun twice but at slow sectors).
=> me being last respectively second last.
fought with Joe for the position and I think I "rammed" him of couldn´t tell though (in the Tunnel 14th lap) and almost got skeeqimus (if the race would go 1 more lap).
I pitted in the 7th lap (my spin was 6th lap).

The races starting at 920 are killing your championship hopes mate. What is realistically the earliest you could make the race? 930? I can ask people if they are cool to wait until then.
The corner before the tunnel was giving some people trouble for sure but for me it was the downhill esses that were ruining my laptimes 👎

i really enjoyed both races but problems (first my own, then someone else) caused me to finish further down the field than I could.

Autumn ring start was immense, i was right up the inside into the first bend and gained 2 or 3 places by turns 2 and 3, but was initially struggling with the tyres to warm but by the end of the lap i was up to speed and they were at a decent temperature.

my strategy was to hold back slightly until someone messed up, which they did and i gained an extra place.

from here, i wanted to distance myself from the two cars chasing me for the past couple of laps, so i put some welly into it and gained a few seconds.

This lead to the complete and under shredding of my front tyres, producing some hellish understeer and meaning that the mercedes followed me into the pit, where we both managed to skip a place over someone and get out cleanly.

I was initially fine with the cold tyres, obviously they allow for a bit more understeer and sometimes oversteer but my setup accounted for any oversteer that may occur to ensure my car was as stable as possible.

going round the 2nd gear turn 8, i put my hoof down and the car flew out of the exit, into 3rd, with a short burst into 4th before braking for turn 9 where i glanced in my mirror at the mercedes behind me, wondering if he had overshot the turn or not.

Doing this meant i went wide on the exit, past the kerb as i usually took and with the right rear on the grass the car rapidly spun 180 degrees with me looking at sparky in the merc ( i think it was you) driving past in the correct direction. absolutely gutted!

from here for me it was a straight drive to the finish, trying to conserve tyres. and the end lap i chilled but someone got within 6 seconds of me.

Eiger, well, that start was expected LOL. hellish launch but the merc in front was hit and came into me, with another guy spinning I believe, and this was all before turn 1.

Following mid way through the pack in corners 2, 3 and 4 I soon came to realise there was not enough room for 2 cars side by side to merrily go along, so i tried backing off but was hit from the side and started sliding.

In my haste to keep position I managed to quickly steer and punch it....... and this kept my position well until the 3rd lap where I spun at turn 4! absolutely gutted as I NEVER Spun during practice and I can whole heartedly say that the physics online are different that offline.

Although I got passed by a few I carried on, only to spin again on the hill up to the penultimate corner, so by this point I was ready for giving up and just relaxing, but i thought I cant be a spoilsport (even if i was 10th or 11th).

I got back on it, made my lines consistent, realised where the car was prone to snapping and prepared to counter, to produce some good lap times between 1.03.7 and 1.04.5 consistently, quickly catching those in front whilst not being a detriment to the tyres as expected.

Instead of pitting around the time that it seemed most people did, i carried on for 2 more laps until lap 11-ish then pitted, where i gained 3 places just from the pitstop! although when i came out i was being followed by 2 cars close on my tail.

having learned from the first race, i made my outlap one that was swift but controlled, being leanient on corner entry and exit before the tyres were warm. this paid off immensely as when they were warm, i was able to punch it and throttle away, where I caught an alfa (and passed if i remember) to keep the finishing position.

hope you all had a good race and next time i want to make more of an effort to keep in the top half lol

Nice in depth report Ray, just one question....who the hell is sparky?
You seem to be enjoying the races so thats a good thing and I would strongly recommend you practise in your own lounge or with us rather than offline as the its universally known that the grip offline is much better 👍

LOL sorry i dont know all the usernames yet, may have been good ol Spurgymond!

yeah certainly am, just trying to keep my nose clean and do some challenging racing, unfortunately it seems luck has run out a couple of times, especially at eiger. I was running really strong midway through the race until the end once I realised that online, the tyre grip level is beyond a joke!

turn 4/5 at eiger, the sweeping downhill left, offline i took that inside and stepped on it to power out in 2nd/3rd gear, whereas online i was really struggling to keep the car straight. ah well.

thanks for the tip and ill certainly take that into account!

:grumpy: Im not called sparky, but nice race report though 👍

Again sorry for the mishap :ouch: ill be watching the replays this evening probably so ill update my report more indepth because that was just a general overview from memory whilst at work lol

I shall call him splurgey from now on :D

I think we do that anyway sometimes. :D

You didn't ram me Sakery, I had to correct my oversteer after the corner and didn't have enough space to do so properly with you next to me, so we touched and that sent me left a small amount so my car then scraped along the tunnel wall for a little.

To all the above comments about me - :grumpy: I might do a race report, but both of my races were quite boring, just got stuck in the gap between the people at the front and the people at the back :(

You will have a bit more overtaking power next season one I have collated the facts and figures of season 1 mate 👍

Yay :D Will that be taking weight off the Merc or taking power from the others? Because I dont think taking the weight away helps too much, Sakerys even added weight for some reason, but that could just be because hes a crazy german :D
