I hate the new look. I've hated it since I saw a screenshot of it about two weeks ago.
But now I forget what it looked like before, haha.
But that's not entirely the point... the main point is that Google basically has the entire web in its hands (well, several copies of the web, anyway), it knows what people want, it knows what people shop for, and soon it'll know what people are talking about. It has major, major potential, because on Google's 100,000 servers are information about how almost everybody uses the web. They've basically created on Operating System (and an uncrashable computer) that knows the web better than any desktop OS.Originally posted by toyomatt84
Why? may I ask. Why are they trying to jump in a race that has been running for over a decade? It's going to be pretty tough for them to start off as a competitor for Microsoft or even Macintosh. Heck, I doubt they have the showing that Linux has within two years.

Uh, I dont think sage is talking about a Google OS at all. Instead, he is pointing out that Google, with its intellectual power and physical resources and insight, has a great enough "product" (in terms of the information they can serve, at he speeds that they can serve it) that they will become "big" in the next few years.

Combine that with the fact that they have some of the smartest people in the world on their team, and you've got one huge, mega powerhouse in Mountain View. I wanted to bring these articles up, because they're foreshadowing what most people would never imagine.
