A friend of mine got banned yesterday and I was wondering if its possible to contact Sony to check what for and if it's a suspension or a ban. Thank you! :D

Depeding on the error code number when you sign in you can run it and it will tell you for how long. Should be like 8002Axxx. Depeding on the last 3 numbers of the code, it will tell you how long the ban is for. But to find out why, you must call them.

You can always create a new user.... I meant your friend... hehehe :D

Don't they ban your IP address? :)

Since you get a new IP address each time you disconnect your modem and PS3 and a new one when you reconnect then I'd say no. It wouldn't be nice on whoever got your old IP address.

You have to pay for a static IP address.

I think I always have the same IP... Im not sure... might be because I never disconnect my modem.

They don't ban "your" ip address, they ban your ps3 account, it's Sony they can do that, nothing to do with ip addresses. Activision ban you from your connection through your "routers" ip address, set by your provider. So your router gets banned from activisions servers, along with the account. So it depends whether you were banned by Sony or whether you were banned on a game like call of duty.

PS, your ps3 gets a new ip everytime it connects, unless you've manually set an ip in your connection settings, which then gives it a static ip.

They don't do IP address bans, they will however do a console ban for things like piracy and cheating. A console ban prevents you from taking any PSN accounts online with that PS3.

What they probably did here was block the PSN account (known simply as an account ban), where it bans only a certain account. If it was a console ban, then they would block your console's MAC address, which prevents the console from accessing any of the PSN features for all accounts on that PS3.

Blocking your public IP address will not work as it is too easy to change your public IP address.
