ABS or no ABS ?

Apparently ABS on has the stability control stay on too so it's the stability managment that is slowing people down, not abs off giving more power.

In general ABS at 1 is faster than ABS off, but with ABS off you get more feeling for the "personality" of the car so that's one reason why i run with ABS off (other reason is to train for race cars that don't have ABS in RL). Just remember to set the brake balance and calibrate the brake pedal at the start of the session!

Generally set the aids at what you feel is fun. There is no correct or wrong way to play the game.

I tried ABS off today with the Golf GTI in one of the exert races. It was A LOT of fun. The lower powered cars become more of a challenge to drive.

Then I tried it in a supercar event. It was crushing hard. You have to do most of your braking in a straight line.

Just keep in mind if you spin out while braking in a straight line it's because your rear wheels locked up first. Lower the brake force on the real wheels to rid of it.

But if A-Spec is too easy for you then just set ABS 0 and prepare to be challenged.

The ABS is rather deceptive to the casual racer because it lets you get away with murder.

If I run a race car which counterpart in the real world is not allowed ot use ABS...it is definately turned OFF ! Else it's on 1 .

Usually I have the ABS 1 and off all other, but I realized than if ABS is set to 1, the car don't feel natural (it feels like it have ESP(ASM) o TCS on and don't spin in 1 gear for example) so I want learn to drive without ABS, I try it so much times but I'm always blocking. Can anyone help me I'm use DFGT wheel

My experience is quite different from this.

Just last night I bought the newest MX-5 from the dealer to get those silly miata races out of the way, and when I ran A-Spec, I set ABS to 2, and TCS to off.

My reasoning was this - surely there must be a switch in a car like that to turn TCS off, and, just as surely, the ABS must be really good by 2007 or whatever year it was.

The result was that it would spin the wheels and kick the tail out where power was sufficient to do so, but would not flat spot the tires when I stood on the brakes and maintained controllability under hard braking (which is what ABS is supposed to do).

I still would like to know what the game # levels equate to. On older cars with ABS, I set it lower, on newer ones, higher, that seems like a no brainer, since ABS has greatly improved. But... what is "realisitc" (or even close to it)? Surely setting an R35 GTR to 1, and a 1989 Isuzu 4200r also to 1 can't be right (the GTR must certainly have a much better ABS system)

And how will you find out if the car has ABS irl?
Lots of cars made between 1985 and 2000 exists with and without ABS in the same model, just like extra equipment like sunroof or Aircondition...

You study. Do some research. Do an internet search. It doesn't take that much time. Here's a few sites.

www.carfolio.com (specifications section)

www.nctd.com (check their reviews section)

www.supercars.net

www.conceptcarz.com (check out their vehicles section. This leads to their specs section I think. )

The list is endless really.

As you noted, some cars had ABS as an option, while some had it as standard, while some didn't come with ABS at all. Those sites tend to let us know what's up here, too.

Parnelli (love that name btw)

It's a play on Parnelli Jones. :)

PB, do you use a wheel? Best I can manage with the 300SL in sector 1 is a Silver (got silver in all those tests, planned to go back for gold later). I use a DS3 though.

Nope, Sixaxis here. I'm going to get a wheel someday soon. Got other priorities at the moment, unfortunately.

Well, obviously the wheels spins with ABS on(even on 10) but if ABS is off wheels spins even more.
Try this: get SLS AMG and try to do donuts with ABS on 1 and with ABS totally off.
Hope I'll be able to post some videos ;)

Yep, s'why I love it, funny/clever and cool. :)

Know the feeling. Funnily enough, I actually have a Logitech Momo that I got for Simbin GTR on the PC a few years back. It seems that it ought to work for GT5, and I really hope it does. It would be cool to finally have a rig like that for GT. But, the weird part is, I'm actually hesitant to do it. Aside from having issues with physical space w/r/t the tv in the living room, I spend SOOO much time playing this game, that I actually prefer using the analog sticks for comfort over those long sessions. (and worry if I do set up the wheel, it's spoil me completely and I won't want to go back lol)

Hey I just got done running the license test with the Aston Martin were you have to accelerate than brake and stop in the box. I was going for gold and having issues, so I turned off ABS. I used the same braking marker so that I could try to gauge the difference. My first go I started braking without locking wheels, but then locked for the last 100 feet, I stopped about 5 feet short of the box. I thought that was great, no abs can give better performance. Next run I decided to lock the wheels up from the get go just to see what happened......I stopped 20 feet short of the box using the same braking marked that landed me in the box with abs on. Thats 10 feet shorter than when I did not lock them for the full time. This then led me to try it without locking the wheels.....went about 15 feet past the box.

So is there anyone out there that can verify that this type of performance is true to life. I have had cars with and without abs, but never raced them on track, and can't say if those results are realistic or not. I just though that not locking the wheels would give a shorter stopping distance, but instead I got my shortest stopping distance by locking wheels. Thanks for any replies.👍
