@ClydeYellow the LVL 2 upgrade is too much expensive even for a regular player
Now I'm near the 7mln barrier, got a LOT of Special raid missions, tons of credits, S ranks and ranking points...the weird thing is...I'm INSIDE the top 1K barrier, if I keep standing near or inside I guess I'll go for the Grabacr...

That poor cat looks traumatised. At any rate I agree there will be a flood of ugly red ADF-01s very soon (the ugliest jet in the game to begin with IMO, much less when red).

That is very much true, but hey, if you're doing less than 10k pts. in B7R while on a ADF-01, then the problem may be between MFD and zero-zero seat. Heh, I guess I can't complain too much, either. Getting the FB-22 Aries early on was probably the best thing to happen to me in an online game, ever. And besides, they're all going to be easy pickings when the next TDM event will roll out.

Anyways, ended up choosing the Su-35 over the Terminator - funnily enough, I unlocked them both at the same time, but I decided to splurge my money and plane research reports on the former, the lower stall speed and immediate 6AAM availability being the main selling points for me.
Upgraded it to lv. 4 and oh boy does this thing fly. I'm easily in the 45k range in any mission, and I'm yet to upgrade the 6AAM at all.

Speaking of QAAM, they are thoroughly disappointing on a Multirole. I'm doing the destroy 100 targets with QAAM challenge and the best jet I had with the most missiles was a level 5 Su-47, QAAM on level 2. I've got small homing upgrade plus the QAAM specialised part and the homing is hella terrible. I pretty much have to line them up perfectly to ensure a hit, even on yellow targets. Mega disappoint.

The homing L part is mandatory even for QAAMs...despite it's a great missile in terms of damage and homing, compared to any special missile, it's disappointing...
About the FAEB alps challenge...I found the best way to do it it's a 6 player room (or high level MR, 4 players) but fully upgrading ST missiles, using a multirole and the most important thing...focus on air target while spamming some bombs around...still getting tons of special raid missions, and I'm still inside the top 1k.
7.5 mlns plus...I got the Osea Falken as drop, won't bother to upgrade it, I have the standard at level 3, much cheaper, pretty much the same performance and black looks cooler.

I haven't been bothering to worry about S ranks lately, I just want that upgrade form! This QAAM has been the hardest for me, I should only have one sortie left on it but it's taken 6 sorties and I'm flat-out scoring 30k with it (because I need to spend so much time making sure every missile hits, it even missed a KA-50 at Moscow this morning!).

traitor
I'm using the good old Typhoon as 6AAM boat, it's basically the satellite cleaner now...a lot of MVPs.
But I don't use 6AAM in standard co-op anymore, QAAMs are better.

The 6AAM are perfectly good on Alps and B7R too, IMO. 6AAMs are perfect to thin down (read: blast from the skies) large formations of yellows on first engagement, and against circle-jerking AIs... Who can dodge two missiles, but not six.

Also, I refuse your accusation! I am merely an educated pilot making rational choices.

(Meeting Osea Falkens almost every match. God, they're ugly)

Not a single Falken spotted
If the payload or the damage of HVAAs was better, that will be the best choice in Alps...but...
6AAM are good also for the Moscow and Comona final furball...the major downside is that you won't get nice results unless you shoot from distance...
LAAM are quite interesting, too bad I'm still 8,- mlns away from those:lol:

The QAAM challenge is probably a walk in the park for me, being a QAAM user...how many challenges we got anyway?

So...I'm basically 4K pts away from the top 1K...I guess the grabacr can be mine without too much fuel...
The aircraft is even complete with all the roundels necessary...would be great if I catch the Grabacr "standard" emblem to use on the aicraft set...top 200 is 100K more than the top 1000.
DAMN.

So today in Ace Combat Infinity, I learned why I never use HVAAs anymore. At least you don't need too many kills with them. I might be better off shooting them at AA guns than actual planes.

HVAAs would be good IF once fully upgraded (damage L) you are able to one shoot reds.
This...combined to the low payload and not-so-good homing is the main reason I don't use HVAAs.
BUT, in TDM they are quite good...and in some maps can come in handy...all the gameplay mechanics really depends on the various situations...I almost got an MVP in Moscow using a Lvl 2 distant thunder (just for the big amount of clusters you can literally incinerate with FAEBs)...same for HVAAs....

Got that challenge taken care of today. Using the L damage part and upgrading the HVAAs to level 3 helped, they could at least one-shot most orange targets with my lvl 10 F-14A. They still couldn't seem to take MiG-29s for some reason. It's odd how my machine guns can rip them to shreds but barely damage Su-33s, yet it always seems easier to one-shot Su-33s with missiles.

Now for the FAEB which I don't seem to be any good at using. Guess it's time to learn.

The Alps FAEB challenge is quite easy if done with the correct equipment.
You can always use a Multirole, equip FAEBs, upgrade standard missiles and go for air TGTs while spamming some bombs sometimes.
Most of the players will go for A2G since the easiest way to get FAEBs is the A-10.
I believe the only multirole with this type of bomb is the F-15 MTD, I do have the stripe variant and it was a walk in the park, got tons of points using this strategy.
If you are also interested in ranking pts then go for 6 players room only, otherwise 4, the chance to get the S rank is poor but you'll have much more targets to shoot.
If you have only an A-10 then use parts for the bomb and go for A2A, if you have a decent MTD then it's up to you.
You can balance the setup or make 2 then use the A2G or A2A depending on the other players choice...
My personal was damage L, homing L and the L part than gives you more bombs and more reload speed.
FAEBs are easy to use but you need a fast plane and try to select big clusters, the explosion is weak so be prapared to help the bomb with missiles against orange or red targets. Try to use one bomb for each cluster, the payload is pretty low and it's pretty rare to find a single cluster with multiple reds or oranges...

Surprised at the hate for HVAA, they're my favourite A2A weapon at the moment. Of course mine are level 5, but they nearly always hit everything I fire at them. Sure it takes two shots because I don't have any upgrade parts for them equipped, but I mainly use them as a long range sniper. Sometimes I use them as a gap filler between standard missiles in close range, but my standard missiles reload pretty quickly and can one-shot reds. I actually got the match win thanks to HVAA the other day, our team was down 800 and there was one Mig-29 left in the distance. Everyone was going for it but once in range they stood no chance against my HVAA.
I also always get one of those T-50s at the start of B7R if they're there with HVAA before anyone else can, I normally get the second one with a standard missile. Instantly starts the mission with 7000pts.

There is to be an update on.....May 12th I think? WOOHOO!! NEW STUFF! NEW STUFF! NEW STUFF!

Isn't Mobius stuff supposed to come out soon?

(I'd be far happier if it were a Tu-160 + MiG-31 update, tho. I'm a sucker for Soviet planes. I'd give a pint of blood and a pound of flesh for a Tu-160 - Vasilij Rescetnikov -, Сука Блять!)

Thanks for the tips, I'll probably use the A-10 since I don't think I have an MTD, or any multiroles that aren't useless without several more levels for that matter. Even my 1200+ cost multiroles don't seem to ever do very well. When I tried using the FAEB before I was surprised how many weak targets survived at the edges of the blast, I must need to be a bit more accurate with them and of course weaken the stronger targets first.

I usually don't use parts for my special weapons except in these challenges, even though I know most people here seem to prefer doing so. I just can't get over the fact that I'm using up my valuable upgrade slots on weapons that will at best get me 15-20% of my kills on any given mission.

For the challenges I of course do use at least the ammunition parts, and the others depending on how things go. I had to use the damage part on the HVAAs because on top of rarely hitting anything from short or long range they didn't do any damage when they did. Accuracy did improve once I bumped them up to level 3, and it was almost easier to use them on (non-emergency)reds because I could damage them with a standard missile first and then finish them off. Anything weaker I couldn't hit with anything except machine guns to soften them up, which made things more entertaining at least.

Mobius stuff is supposed to come and my wallet is not f:censored: ready!
I just hope the fuel I have would be enough...
Plus, on June 29 we have the 20th anniversary of Ace Combat so expect something special...

Making good progress with FAEBs, my first mission was a bit rough but by the end of it I was starting to get a better feel for what worked and what didn't. It still seems like sometimes if you drop multiple bombs the targets will ignore the second one, and sometimes stuff that should be ready to blow just decides to be immune. I suppose it's not too bad considering what the AI planes can pull off at times. Speaking of which, I saw an AI T-50 pull off a 720 degree roll along with with a 360 degree flip in no more than one second last night, followed by multiple impossible flips and rolls and repeated 90-degree corners with no speed loss. It's amazing what you see when you are able to stay following them at close range. Needless to say, my level 2 Distant Thunder was not able to shoot that guy down even after over a minute of trying. I think I hit him once or twice.

I've played a few games with a couple 1400 and 1300 matching rate players in the last couple days which has helped me realize how far my expectations of what a capable plane is has evolved over the months. Some of the planes that I complain about being completely useless are probably amazing compared to what I was once flying, not to mention my knowledge and mediocre skill improvements.

I also got to drop bombs on Gyges and Kottos's engines yesterday too... something I've wanted to do for a long time just because. Took out a couple of them. I was too close to the planes to see much but the FAEB fireballs, but I imagine it looked pretty amusing to the other players coming up behind me. :)

Speaking of the crazy maneuvers AI boss planes pull, has anyone else noticed they seem to be a lot more sedate and borderline easy to kill when there are low level jets in the room? I'm sure the game slows down the bosses based on what jets, or possibly matching rate players, are in the sortie.

Is the F-15J Tiger worth its ticket price, or should I hold on my 400 tickets in case a better plane comes out? I am also thinking the F-14D JR could be a good plane, but I feel having a SAAM fighter would be more useful.

The Jolly Rogers has been useful to me in the past for F-14 challenges and tournaments. I regret not spending more of my tickets earlier, I have well over 3000 now and nothing to spend them on.

Edit: I have almost $1.5mil now, I can almost afford up to level 9 for the FB-22 which is currently on level 5 but I don't think the research guage has ever moved this slowly for a level 5 plane!

So every time they've had maintenance they've added new jets right? There aren't many jets left to add except their fictional ones, I wouldn't be surprised if @ClydeYellow gets his wish and they add a Mig-31 this update, along with the CFA-44 (which will probably cost $4mil ).

Of course the lack of a Tornado to this point has been surprising as well.

YES PLEASE. So I can emulate Maurizio Cocciolone and get shot down in Dubai Night Assault, ha.

I think they will add something like CFA-44, R-201, XFA-36 at this point.

I don't see the R-201 happening. The R-101 is already a top-tier plane, and I remember the difference between the R-101 and the R-201 being enormous. The R-201 would have to significantly outperform every other plane in the game to make sense.

P.S: it would make plenty of sense to have the MiG-31 being a development requirement for the CFA-44. In Assault Horizon lore the CFA-44 was developed by the USSR; besides, the MiG-31BM can engage 24 targets as a time, and (of course with reduced capabilities - 12AAM anyone?) it could serve to train the player to the ADMM.

Of course, I am not deluding myself thinking Nandai will ever properly implement the MiG-31 in the role of a highly-supersonic interceptor which can't dogfight at all but can shot down several targets at once (a yellow/orange-massacrer).

A tornado will be good, I had fun with the BDSP in the past games but the licensing with Panavia...you know...
If we get the IDS, as multirole with SAAMs or HVAAs I will be happy and maybe the one with the shark mouth...(AC6 had this colour scheme as DLC). I liek shark mouths :V
Anyway, placing around the 7-- position, still with 250 units of fuel wich is A LOT and 10,5mln credits...I dunno how to spend those...I hope the new update will make all the classic ace planes complete so I can use the complete emblem on the respective planes, will go for the full Grabacr, for now, the su-47 will have the glorious belkan roundel...this top 200 looks not good for my wallet...better save money for Mobius...
