Well, make that two people. Mechanicals are, imo, no better than the $5 peices of crap Dell and Acer send out with their systems. They sound (and from what limited experience I've had with them, feel) like you're typing on a 1930's typewriter, and you pay extrodinate prices for something that just purely isn't worth it. I'd happily go and pick up something like this before something like this...

For me, the lower the profile, the better (which is why I'd love to mod out a Laptop keyboard some day), and the more displays and flashy bits so I can see what's going on, the better.

People who say Mech keyboards 'sound like a type writer', need to realise that literally only one mechcanical switch type remotely sounds like a typewriter, the rest of them sound pretty similiar to any other membrane keyboard, you can also get O-Rings which make them basically silent.

This discussion is almost exactly like the headphone discussion, you can pay $150 and get a Logitech Headset which is full of lights, gadgets, microphones and ********. Or you can spend $150 on headphones from a dedicated headphone maker and get something which actually sounds good. Same thing applies with keyboards.

It basically comes down to the question of quality. I know my Mech will last 10-20 years, but I'm guessing the gimicky LCD screen on a G19 won't.

If their is a mech keyboard with standalone media buttons(not on a function(I am not using a laptop)), full backlit keys and no changing of they keys or their layout and has options like "disable windows key" I will look to it.

^ Did it sound rude? If it did it wasn't intentional, sorry... :guilty:

Nah but I thought it would be more rude coming from me, cause well its me.

You can get mech keyboards for less than most of the Logitech G series.

Also, the only mechanical keyboard that sounds old is the Model M, which actually feels nothing like an old type-writer. At all, and you'd know this if you have actually spent any time with either. Modern switches, which are mostly Cherry MX series switches, have a range of feels and sounds, most of the sound coming from bottoming out, which also happens to be what makes sound on a membrane keyboard. The only difference is you must bottom out a membrane keyboard in order to make it work by design.

As for your comparison, you are comparing a 30 dollar OEM class keyboard with a tenkeyless on Red switches (that is a pretty good deal for that btw), which is worlds different. Worlds. You have to spend more than 5 minutes messing around to really appreciate the difference, which stands out the most when you go back to using a membrane keyboard. Kind of like when you drive a car that is better all around but not obviously so at first, then you go back to the cheap junk and you realize, well, it is cheap junk for a reason.

As for the list of "required" features you guys want, it is really, honestly, a touch depressing to see so much insistence on pointless features. Back lighting is probably the dumbest thing in the world, as any one that actually cares about computers should know how to touch type in this day and age.

That aside, if you can't be bothered to hit TWO keys at once to change a track, and can't figure out how to disable the Windows key in games you play, there are probably options but I can't be bothered to dig them up. The best deal on the market in that regard is the Razer Black Widow Stealth.

Or you can pay nearly as much to have the luxury of not hitting two keys at once to skip a track and have a keyboard that will feel like crap and last half as long.

Somewhat like comparing a stock E36 M3 to a 90's Civic with some stickers and glow slapped on it. Actually, almost the exact same.

Vengeance K90 Gaming Keyboard MMO has alot of what I am looking for.

Back lighting.
Standalone media keys.
Windows key disable.
Macrokeys(a fair few)
Even though I do not play MMOs the macros will be every handy.

And now my laptop fan is starting to sound like a dieing diesel engine.

Problem with K90 is that Fkeys and macro keys aren't mech.

Don't are about that.
I use the arrows, enter, Rshift, RCrt, RAlt and Numkeys for gaming.
I know my style is odd but I grew up with this layout back when I played UT2004 heavily and it was easier to switch from a shockrifle and go to a sniper this way than use the top number keys.

You know in the UT settings you can change the weapon number associations and their priority, right?

Yeah, but I found it easier to go from a link gun which is 5 to a shield 0 when i was under fire as they key was less than an inch from my movement keys, I have tried the WASD layout and I am not as good on it.

This what my laptop is now sounding like.

This means I will have to now get it fixed.
