What if I don't have that car? Ha.

If it's tradeable, I'll send you one if you don't have it.

I may skip that race, I have a 2 hour endurance race the next day and don't really like the Viper.

I'm just making a joke is all. Thanks though. I know your the garage man.

Open. Set to 12. Fixed. Standard. Mics. disabled.

I'll be monitoring the bandwidth usage in real time. If we could get everyone to stay after the race we could open a different room with mics enabled and see what the difference is in bandwidth. We would all have to leave after the race, let RR open a new room with mics enabled, then everyone join. Up to you guys, just let me know.

I enjoyed the racing last night, it's a shame that mics appear to degrade the experience.

Since there are a lot of discussions lately regarding ping results, I have some suggestions for anyone interested in listening. I am the type of person who wants to find the answer instead of guessing. I want to find out if there is anything I can do to improve my ping results. In other words, is it something in my house that is slowing the ping, or is it my ISP (internet service provider) and there's nothing I can do?

To anyone interested in the same I suggest the following:

What we’re trying to learn is if there is something in your house that is effecting your ping results, then we want to isolate it.

*Remove all "in between" devices. Connect your PS3 directly to your ISP modem with an ethernet cable, as short as possible. If your modem is in a different room, you can run a 100' ethernet cable without noticeable signal loss. I know this isn't always convenient, but this gets you the most direct connection. If this doesn't improve your ping, there's one more thing you can look into, replacing your modem.
*How old is your modem? Generally if the modem is 5 years old or older there is either a firmware update, or just get a newer modem. If you rent your modem from your ISP, they will give you a newer modem is asked.
*Do you have DSL as your internet service? Do you have line filters on all phones/faxes? Disconnect all phones/faxes and see if your ping improves. If so, check for line filters missing.
*If you have cable internet, do you use a coax splitter before your modem? If so, check the "specs" on it. If it is rated at 1MHz or higher, you're fine. If it's the cheapo piece of crap the ISP usually gives you, it would be a good idea to replace it. A "high end" splitter is $30, but I'm sure they exist cheaper.
*Do you use a router/multi port switch? If so, what else is connected to it? Disconnect everything except your PS3 and see if your ping improves. If it does then reconnect the other items one at a time until your ping results drop again.
*If your results drop because you're using wireless and you're using security/encryption then try using different encryption. Encryption WILL slow down your signal because the router needs to authenticate the data packet between your PS3 and the wireless router.

If this helps anyone that's great! I'm not "all knowing", but I've been in the electronics industry for 15 years involved with designing and manufacturing electronic circuits, so I have a lot of experience and many resources to pull knowledge from. Hopefully this will be viewed as helpful and constructive.

Thank you for the insight, I honestly have no idea what all this stuff does or how certain things affect the quality of the rooms. What I do know is that something has happened either with PD/PS3 servers or with in our group. I haven't had this much of a problem hosting rooms with mics on with race settings higher than we are running. These last few weeks have been very frustrating and the tension between our members is slowly tearing our group apart. This is a shame because we have raced together for so long.

Nice E.---------->And also, if you don't have a secure line, plz set a security on your router. There are people out there that will mooch off your hard earned money ( b/c the nearest residence to me is more than a 100 yards away, and I can pull there router signal), and even though your paying for good service, there might be someone stealing your signal, on top of that your using it too, running all types of devices, slowing you down. All the while, your thinking your ok, but your not. By all means, if theirs anyone out there that is stealing someones internet, plz, GET A LIFE. I say this because I heard some of you say you don't have a secure setup. Were living in a cyber infused world and technology is advancing by the second. Don't just protect because of gaming but protect yourself at every angle, its a must.

Great point Jess! Because I live in the electronics world I hear of many "tools" that can be used in a negative way. One is called a packet sniffer and it can read/intercept all wireless traffic. If any of you have a unsecured wireless network and do any kind of personal business over the web you are running the risk of having your personal information stolen. Do you purchase stuff over the PS3? Unsecured you could lose your info. Do you buy stuff from eBay? Unsecured you could lose your info. Now, there is the great possibility that you don't care.... to that I say... "Enjoy your new identity!" because you'll be getting a new one after Joe Schmoe buys a ton of new stuff with your old one.

Sorry for the outburst last night, don't like when people call me liar. As you all know by now, my gears are wound up pretty tight, I say what I mean, and I mean what I say. Sorry for the tension if I'm the "suspect", got a little Indian in my blood. That's a fair warning, I think. For all of you who don't know me, I'm disabled and I take care of my 2year old twins and a 5year old (24/7), while my wife works, so that means I'm already on the EDGE. I just wanna race and have everyone on the same level of play, Im not liking the lag at all. I like racing with everyone and ill be glad when everything gets fixed. My main focus is to beat RR ( frigging cheater ).
