Months upon months of spy shots, teasers, renderings and endless speculation have come to their culmination as Alfa Romeo this morning released official images and details of the highly-anticipated new Mi.To. As we previously reported, the Mi.To name – an abbreviation for Milan and Turin (also meaning "myth" or "legend" in Italian as our astute commenter Nick pointed out) – won out for the final nameplate over the internal designation "Junior" and the proposed name "Furiosa".

Alfa is quick to point out that the Mi.To is the first new model introduced since the 8C Competizione, and the new hatch draws heavily on the supercar's styling, as you can see from the images in the gallery below. If you tried to morph an 8C with a Fiat 500, you wouldn't be far off, but the Centro Stile Alfa Romeo appears to have bridged the gap with considerable finesse. Alfa Romeo also confirmed that the Mi.To will initially be offered with a range of four turbocharged fours, with horsepower ranging from 90 to 155, with even stronger engines to follow. The Mi.To's official presentation will come in June before market introductions begin in July. For more details, scope out the press release after the jump.

Four turbocharged engines (petrol and diesel), 90hp to 155hp, on a modified Grande Punto platform weighing no more than 1050kg... Fun stuff. And the design...

And now, I want to jump into the league of True Petrol Heads. I just hope it's a viable alternative to a Mini that only needs a wrench applied.

I love the obvious punny name of the car; "Me Too". Excelent name for a car whenever an automaker wants a piece of the market for themselves.

The car itself; love the design. Loveitloveitloveit. I want it now.

I would read the 'me too' as a reference to it's obvious 8C connotations.

Car looks stunning. Amazing look for a car like this. The only thing I'm worried about is if this will cheapen the aura of the Competizione.

The 149 is coming soon, it's a size up from this. It's more Golf/Focus-sized, this is supposed to go toe-to-toe with the Mini.

Grande Punto, Fiesta/Verve, Mini... this segment is suddenly full of some nice-looking cars. This takes the cake to me 👍

1) Alfa is coming to the US
2) Not until 2009
3) This car better be here!

I love the 8C. I mean, I really love it – I think it’s the prettiest car in production right now.

For some reason though, this design doesn’t sit well with me. They seemed to put the headlamps, taillamps, and wheels in their CAD drawing first, then tried to design the body around those elements, and it came out a bit wonky. I think they could’ve appealed to the styling of the 8C without directly transferring things like the taillamps, which just don’t work on a hatch.

If they put that rear on a Brera front, this car would be awesome. It looks too much like a B9 Tribeca in the front, but, damn, that rear end is amazing.

I'd so have that over my Cooper any day, that thing looks awesome.

Ditto. Personally, it's tough to beat a hatchback for versatility, practicality and roadsize in the UK.

And for me this one wins the 'good looking' prize now it just needs the right engine. I think my Alfa loving Focus ST owning friend has just found his next car.

I have been considering purchasing a Fiat 500 as a 'going to work car' sometime this year... perhaps I'd trade it in for one of these. :)

It's nice. However, I'm getting a sense of deja vu and its not with the 8C. Something before has looked like this, I swear it.

The detailing on the front of this car is killin me compared to the simpleness of the Alfa 8c Competizione front...

Oh yeah! Now I remeber what it was, it was that Alfa Romeo which I entered a competition to name it!

That be why I could remember it...

That is a beautiful car. The only two things that don't look perfect are the headlights and the rear window not being flush giving it a bit of an unfinished look.

Absolutely love it.

Initially, my opinion was that this was just another boring hatch, only from Alfa Romeo. Not bad, just not all that interesting. Then I really took a good look at it. God damn if it doesn't look good. There's not a bad angle on this thing, and it's so cohesive: all sorts of good proportions, the details all gel together, and while it mocks the 8C it doesn't really look like it does.

If this drives half as good as it looks, both Mini and VW have a real fight on their hands. And what better way for Alfa to return to the US than with the 8C and this little beauty?

3) This car better be here!

It should, but I don't care. If we don't get it in Israel, I'm moving out. :p

Being based on the same chassis, maybe this'll help?

Considering that engine gets factory-upgrades to 185hp in the Grande, it won't be down on power against the Mini either, even at the top levels. Not to mention the lower engines, which match the Mini's base-levels too.

Just, Wow. This is officially the best looking hatchback EVER. I want it, now.

How about a little video action?

I still think the headlights are a little awkward.

dammit, you're not supposed to post porn...
👍

(Note: this is the first time I've EVER thought a hatch sexy. Probably the last.)

Stunning car, its a shame I would not buy one as I do not have faith in alfa reliability and build quality, and the build quality on the punto and grande punto is laughable aswell. The new punto engine bay is filled with silver foil like material so the engine looks like a popcorn maker and the materials used for the shell was really flimsy.

I knew there's a reason you're on my Ignore list...

Stop bitching. 90% of the folks in this thread won't buy one either - and what do we care if there's silver foil in the engine-bay? FYI, Fiats are topping the reliability charts here with the Punto.

Why are you getting so upset like its a personal attack? And fiat arent topping any reliability polls in england so who knows.

Im loosing out here because of the fact that the build quality and reliabilty of fiat is so so as otherwise I would buy one of these cars.

If you pay £11 grand for a 1.2 liter fiat punto I do not want to see a load of foil as a engine cover.

yeah, you want to see a ton of cheap, black plastic as there is in every VAG that is in your way if you have to do even simplest basic maintenance. and Alfa Romeo isn't in the 80's any more, their build quality has gone up by miles, just like Fiats. you're complaining about aesthetics, and have no first hand experience to base your OPINIONS ( that you treat as facts) on.

Against the Polo, this is an excellent alternative. Sharp looks, presumably impeccable driving dynamics, and certainly an overall increased reliability make it seem like a very good deal.

Like it or not, Volkswagen (and Audi, and the like) is nowhere near "perfect" when it comes to the same topic. No matter how much I may love (most) of VAG, its something you know going in, and you end up dealing with it in the end. One recalls a time in which most of VAG were the laughingstock of the majority of the automotive world, and things have only improved slightly from "poor" to "slightly above average," nothing to shake a stick at.

...When VWs start topping Chevrolets and Fords on a regular basis for reliability, give me a call. I still love 'em, but I'm not buying one for a while...
