As the title says: Do you prefer the American, European or Japanese cars (in GT5, not in real life !) and why ?

Personally, I prefer the European cars, but not because I live in Europe. Somehow the American and Japanese just don't appeal to me that much, although there are a few models which I really like (e.g. Dodge Viper, Chevrolet Corvette, Nissan XANAVI, Toyota MINOLTA; you can see my favourite models here https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=176688). I guess I just like the design (but also power) of e.g. the Audi, Bugatti, Citroen GT, Lamborghini and Ferrari cars. Also in terms of handling many European cars (especially the race cars) are great to drive.

Update: Here are some clarifying comments why I chose these three options and which I posted later in this thread but I add them here too because I guess not everybody will probably read/see them.

- Since the majority of the cars in GT5 are either from USA, Europe or Japan, it made sense to me to use these three options (and not to include e.g. Australia; Sorry guys from Australia but at least you have great motorbike riders and race drivers like Troy Bayliss, Troy Corser and Mark Webber ;)).

- Since there aren't any Canadian cars in GT5 (as far as I know; Are there any well-known Canadian car manufacturers in real life at all ?), I chose "American" and not "North American" as a continent in comparison with "European". Same for "Japanese" and not "Asian" because there aren't any e.g. Chinese, etc. cars in GT5 (I think there is only Hyundai to represent South Korea).

- I didn't choose "German", "Italian", "British", "French", etc. as options but "European", in order to keep it more simple. Otherwise it's getting too complicated :) ! But I think USA, Europe and Japan are good criteria, in order to do a general comparison based on the "continents".

if i suddenly had loads of money, but wanted to be sensible and not just get 1 of everything i would end up with mostly Japanese, a few choice Euro cars - cossies, lancias, alfas, a quattro.. ooh more than a few then, and maybe one or two Yank Tanks. so that is my order.

It has to be european.

Not for the greatest number of car but for the huge variance of cars. Evening from sub compact minis, through TVrs and lotii ending in some sweet driving race cars.

And the lancia stratos :P

IF I was very (ingame) rich, any of them is good but currently not, so Japanese is all good to settle on.

Japanese, no question. I mean don't get me wrong, I do love my British cars, but I can only think of two or three examples of French and German cars that I actually like (Italian cars, though, I do like). I think it's essentially a personal preference thing; I really like the design of Japanese cars when compared to European and definitely American cars. They tend to have very functional exteriors and are usually quite ugly, and I love that, as they often drive so well.

Also I find you get more 'sleepers' or 'Q-cars' in Japan, i.e. cars that don't look all that special but would eat a Ferrari's breakfast; the Tom's X540 Chaser springs to mind, and I like that aspect of it.

Of course, it helps that I've always played GT since I was a child so I've had a lot more exposure to Japanese cars than anything else, and there's a huge range of Japanese cars in GT, especially when compared with any other country or continent, even.

I can see this thread probably devolving into a "my country is better than yours" argument:lol:

Anyway, I'll have to settle with European, although I love American cars and Japanese cars too.

Australia?

I'm a big fan of the Japanese sports cars for a couple reasons. 1: For the price you get a lot of car, both technology wise and performance. My brother in law has a 86 Supra non Turbo, and it came with climate control, dual mode suspension and all sorts of other stuff. And then if you don't like how the car is preforming you can tune the crap out of the Engine. I mean theres a reason Honda's so popular, they are so easy to modify and tune. I see Japanese car as the middle ground between European sports cars (technology pack, fast but not very tunable) and American sports cars (stone age tech, but massive amounts of engine tuning available).

Nothing beats the american muscle. Just cruising down a straight sittin on 100 in gear 5 or 6 to hear that really low, gruff, rumble. Nothing better.

Voted Japanese - just so many choices...

And yes you can turn your stock road cars into monsters - that still stay on the road and pointing forward - unless you prefer going sideways ;)

Pretty much everything is better. Including athlete's foot.

American tech hasn't kept up at all with their European and Japanese counterparts. They keep increasing engine size in a bid to increase speed but neglect the rest of the car.

This is one of the reasons why 2l S2000s are outperforming American cars with twice the engine. Al Gore said it best, "we need to focus on building cars like they do in Europe and Japan that perform twice as good as American cars using half the gas".

For me, that's why they're out of this little competition.

Turning to the Japanese and Europeans I think we see another reflection of their psyches. The European ( especially the continental ) cars are a mixture of style and substance but not necessarily reliability, the Japanese are reliable, yet not always particularly inspiring.

And for that reason I'm going to go with the European cars. Theirs such a mixture of cars in the European market but theirs a huge amount of performance and style. I should point out that I'm British and whilst I do love the Elise I know there's a good reason Lotus stands for "Loads of Trouble, Usually Serious".

The axis of evil makes the best cars!:dopey: Germany Italy and Japan. Go figure.👍

European cars seem to be my favorite & offer the most variety.

Definitely European cars Amrican cars are good in a straight line though.

that's cause after the war, all of their militaries were all but disbanded and all of those resources went to building cars instead. just a thought

Tough choice. America and Japan have some great cars in GT5, but most of my favourite cars are European.

More European. Many more European cars, please! Especially from the last 3 years.

I feel there are enough American cars as is; there are not enough tracks without corners to enjoy them on anyway. And the "just make bigger cylinders to give it moar power hurr durr"-engineering is not that interesting anyway.

And Japanese cars... well... GT has enough Japanese cars for another 2 GT generations.

It's not an easy choice, but I think the variety of cars from europe is the tipping point. I am a huge fan of Super GT cars though.

Definately European cars are superior although I do love my Aussie muscle cars.

In order of favourite to least favourite: Japanese (should really say Asian since China and Korea makes cars too), American and then finally European cars.

I'm surrounded by European cars so they're actually quite boring to see in a game. Every time I see a Corvette or Mustang, my head turns 180 degrees. Every time I see an NSX, I stare at it until I cant see it anymore. Every time I see a Ferrari F430 I just give it a quick glance and that's it.

Pretty lame to put an entire continent up against two countries. I really love German cars so I guess my vote goes to European.

This is an interesting question and here is my honest answer...

American cars are fast, brutal and fun but they're not good enough round a track in my opinion. They're good for hooning around and having fun but not good enough for clean, consistent laptimes. Even the Corvette ZR1 is too tail happy in my opinion. So they're out of the running.

Japanese cars are very technologically advanced and generally have good handling but they're very clinical and don't have much personality in my opinion. So they're out of the running too.

European cars are the perfect mix in my opinion. They have the personality and styling but also are technologically advanced. Some of the best cars come from Europe, such as the Lotus Elise, BMW M3, Ferrari 458, etc. European cars win it for me.

Note: The above post is my opinion so don't be offended if you're a fan of US or Japanese cars.

Next time you want to be taken seriously, please don't quote Al Gore..

Well for day to day real life stuff I prefer Japanese, but for dream world favorites European.

No Russian, I'm disappointed.

I picked European. I love all cars, but in-game, Europe has the best mix. I'd choose America if the lower end cars like the Cobalt SS weren't ignored.
