Thank you. It's good to know that even if I were blind, I could read that rule. So we have a motion to start slinging crap huh? Okay, we can start slinging crap. I'm not a Gran Turismo newbie, I'm not even a Gran Turismo forum newbie. My brother is new to the forum side of Gran Turismo though and was only doing what I did, so don't get on him about it.
I understand the T-times phrase completely and entirely ... but you're telling someone who
doesn't really give a luck (I could remove the "L" if I wanted and it still wouldn't be censored. Use the program, "Windows Character Map" for other letters since the Internet censors aren't immune to irregular characters). Here's why I don't care: I don't feel that knowing a final time is really all that advantageous, especially since I posted at 4AM Pacific Time, with about 8 hours remaining until the deadline. If someone wants to wait until the bitter end of a project to work on it, great for them, but the results aren't as good if they'd been working on it all along.
Competitors have had a week (168 hours) to find their best time and chances are, knowing someone else's final time isn't going to make a difference that late in the game. I've had both, offers for people to send me their replay, and people ask me for my ghost replay before the deadline. What does a ghost replay contain? Ohhh muh gosh! It has the final time too! I can't edit that out without some video editing software.
You have settings and you have ability. Somewhere in there is a limiting factor. What if I posted a 1'35.468 on Friday morning? If I could sling the Corvette around Seattle [R] that quickly, good for me. Obviously I have the talent and the settings that will allow me to do that. Would it be boasting? Nope, we're competing for a "best time." It would be expected.
How, realistically, would knowing about a 1'35.468 on Friday make a difference for today? Before you answer, "People would try harder," think about it. If you try harder and push and push, sloppiness is the result. The quickest way around a track is to be smooth. Trying harder is not the answer. Calming down and driving smoothly is the answer. The fastest driver on a road course is the one who looks as if they are going the slowest. The in-car cam doesn't show any herky-jerky movements, they don't do anything hastily, but they're getting it done with the most efficiency. "Try harder" they might, but there is a deadline winding down and other rules that limit a lot.
I've heard that this rule has been in effect since GT2. Who thought of the 'sector' rule anyway? He/she is like the human who put a law on the books saying that a frog cannot croak after 9PM. What kind of law is that? How does one go about enforcing it? Do we shoot the offending frog? So now we have a tradition. Tradition is lemmings jumping over a cliff. Want to jump over a cliff? Go for it, I won't stop you. You can laugh at me for being different, I'll laugh at you for being all the same.
I'd like to see the shock & surprise I bring if I hosted NASA's CMC in GT4 and allowed people to discuss final times. Call me Chevy, cuz I'd start a revolution
I'm curious, how many people here believe that the attacks on September 11, 2001 were performed by the United States government, and how many believe the media buuulllll-chit stories? If you're half intelligent and can think for yourself logically, you can find yourself believing the government did it; they screwed up and left unexplained discrepancies. If you're brainless and are easily swayed by our biased media, then you believe the media's story that some middle-eastern guys (some of whom are still alive by the way) hijacked some planes and stuffed a Boeing into the Pentagon.
How is that relevant to this post? Think for yourself logically: knowing someone's final time doesn't really make a difference. The difference is
in your ability. If you can better someone else's final time, congratulations, it was in you the whole time, you just had to be motivated in a different way. People learn in different ways, some people are motivated in different ways. Like Jetboys said in an earlier post, racing is fun, but mopping the floor isn't. I'd rather see many great drivers competing and being close, than one or two drivers mopping the floor with all the rest. If I post my time and you get motivated to beat it, cool! Go for it. Competition is good for the economy, it's also good for racing. You can't win 'em all, so get used to losing.
I am happy with my result. I don't care that I finished 2nd? 3rd? 6th? 8th? I don't care. What I am irked about is that I couldn't stay focused and in the zone to better my sector two time while staying around my 19.7 sector one time, but that's my own frustration and it doesn't have any relevance with any of you all.
