An American F1 team?

Bowel movements? :odd:

What I meant to say is to not constrain themselves to American only drivers. Right now the F1 talent pool is not big enough in the States for them to be able to find 2 drivers capable of winning in F1, and I know people in America will not support the team if it's a loser.

to be honest with you guys. i truly believe that STR and USF1 have something going on.

"Last year, we reported speculation that the prospective American team was in talks with Honda, after Ken Anderson attended the Montreal race and met with team chiefs Ross Brawn and Nick Fry.

With Honda's Brackley-based team now for sale, Stuck said it would make sense for Anderson and his reported business partner Peter Windsor to now enter talks to take over the outfit.

"(Buying) Honda would be better than Toro Rosso, because of the superior infrastructure," he said. "

No doubt they have considered and talked to Red Bull about STR, but I think its more likely they'll get their hands on Honda, which I would hope means they would reconsider basing themselves in a continent with no GPs right now.

I dunno, I like the idea of living an hour and a half away from an F1 headquarters. :D Provided they're open to the public of course.

Based in the U.S.A. would be fine. Much of the talent (engineers) is in the UK, but that is what the internet is for... although it seems that with the new wind tunnel being in the U.S. would mean a few would have to move to North Carolina...

My thoughts exactly. Everyone forgets SS's condition during this time, too. I mean honestly, could you keep your concentration when your having 60 bowel movements a day and trying to drive an F1 car with your butt 6 inches from the ground. His abilities as a driver, or lack thereof as some may say, were and are much better than on-paper facts suggest.

He suffered from ulcerative colitis.

Sounds like a crap excuse...

For Americans, names I would be interested in seeing (current series given in parenthesis):
Graham Rahal (IRL) -- young, plenty of potential
Marco Andretti (IRL) -- ditto, competed in A1GP
Danica Patrick (IRL) -- the real deal, but not the fastest in the series
AJ Allmendinger (Nascar) -- dominant in CART before switching to Nascar
Sam Hornish Jr. (Nascar) -- did well in IRL before switch to Nascar
Jeff Gordon (Nascar) -- open wheel origins, probably wouldn't switch unless circumstances were perfect

All of the above have open wheel origins or have competed at the highest levels of American Open Wheel racing.

I would love to see Rahal in an F1 seat! Young, talented, proven road course racer. I couldn't see someone leaving an established seat in NASCAR for an iffy one in F1. Andretti might work well, but I'd rather take Rahal if I had to choose. Danica, while hot, is average at best in IRL in a top car. She wouldn't nearly cut it in a new team surrounded by the current F1 drivers.

Danica is more comfortable on ovals than street/road circuits, so I'd agree with you here. She's midfield at best in IRL off the ovals, which would put her out of her depth in an F1 field.

However, she's a million times better than Milka Duno!

Danica Patrick? lol your kidding me right.... no offense but that girl would never survive in f1... 4time seabas champ can barely keep up... i would like to see andretti, mr. r, or a new karting superstar from california... we need younger drivers

Jeff Gordon is easily the most talented American driver but good luck getting him to sign a contract for Formula One.

If the team was open to any drivers available, who would people think are more likely to get the seats? The Europeans, South Americans & Asians or the North Americans?
The talent is there from all 4 regions, but would it make more sense for the team to pick up drivers who already have experience such as test drivers for current teams and possibly-unemployed drivers (e.g. Button/Barrichello/Sato) or to pick up an all-American team experienced in IndyCars/Champ cars?

I would have said it would make more sense to pick up 2 drivers from either current teams or go talent searching in GP2 or Formula Nippon then use an American driver as a test driver or as a 2nd driver to give them some experience before fielding a full-on American team with little or no experience of F1 or its circuits.

This is awesome news to me but I will only believe it when they are on their 1st grid.....

Marco Andretti or JPM would be cool to see

Can someone please explain to me why everyone wets themselves over Danica Patrick? I respect her, and she's a hell of a lot more of a driver than I would be right now but at the same time it seems almost impossible to me that her name could ever be connected with F1.

This whole 'stickin' it to the men' sexy but still a role model b/s is rather boring.

Source.

Would be great if this is true, even better if Honda finds a buyer too (22 car grid again)! I think it is a little strange that they plan to base the team in the US, unlike every other team, who are based in Europe.

Even better yet, if a buyer for Honda is found so there are 22 cars on the grid once again for 2009, and then USF1 makes its debut in 2010, making it 24 cars in total! :) 👍

Eccelstone would love a female F1 driver, he's wanted one for years. A female driver would attract more women to the sport, which means higher ratings and generally more money for FOM.

Bourdais never raced against anyone mentioned in this thread so far - he won all his titles in CART, as we all know, so he isn't really a useful barometer for any IRL drivers making the jump to F1.

There's currently 9 teams (18 cars) on the Melbourne grid. Add Honda, in whatever form, and that's 10 team (20 cars). Add USF1 in 2010 and that makes 11 teams (22 cars).

Bourdais raced against AJ Allmendinger in 2004, 2005, and 2006. The 2006 season is especially interesting, as AJ and Bourdais were competing head to head for the championship until AJ was fired for signing with Nascar for the 2007 season.

Graham Rahal was Bourdais' teammate in the 2007 Champ Car season. This was Graham Rahal's rookie season.

Actually, this makes a lot of sense, although you'd need to have an American driver as the 2nd driver rather than as a test driver in order to generate any interest with the American public. Red Bull tried this with Scott Speed, but we all know how that worked out.

Oh yes, your'e right. I forgot about Super Aguris departure at the start of this year, sorry! :) 👍

I'd forgotten that - the fact that he won his debut IRL race has lodged in my mind, making me think that was his first foray into the top flight of American single seaters. Thanks for the catch!

wasnt it bernie who said he would never have a female driver in F1. and also that women should be dressed in white like all the other domestic appliances.

I couldn't take any F1 team signing Danica Patrick (at the moment, she's still young) seriously, but particularly if it's named after the country it's based in.
