If they were a rookie studio releasing a big game for the first time, or if their publisher wasn't familiar with the lay of the land, it would be a semi-legit excuse.

As it stands, it's just ridiculous.

P.S.: IGN JUST CHANGED THEIR RELEASE DATE TO MARCH 05! 👎

IGN lists NTSC dates, I should add.
Gamepot still have 12/14/04. Maybe IGN know something?

Considering the UK is the third largest consumer of video games in the world why can't we have games released specifically for this market? Sure there may be some imported from the UK to Europe but considering there's going to be thousands of imports of the Japanese and US games to Europe anyway it makes no difference. Sorry to everyone else in Europe but really UK gamers deserve better.

No need to say sorry :) the rest of Europe - and Australia - would be perfectly served with a PAL version, even if it would be English only!

PD wouldn't delay GT4 in America right after releasing commercials that say December.
thats true, plus, you must see, there are two types of video game sales that GT4 will get. One is the GT fans that will buy it no matter when it comes out. the second and much larger sales group is holiday shoppers. GT4 will sell about 1,000,000 copies just during the holiday season just to those people who see a big buget game to buy their son/daughter/brother/sioster/nephew... you get the idea. Those sales will disolve after the holiday season, and cant be replaced. Thats $50,000,000 of cash flow thats lost if the games not released in DEC. If sony loses that kinda cash, heads are gonna roll. I think the time Kaz San spent doing 800 laps of Nurburgring instead of keeping his team of schedual might be a point of conserne.
of coarse this is just speculaion.
the 1,000,000 number i used is based on the 1,500,000 pre orders recieved on halo 2.
by the way in 3 weeks my prepurchase ticket for GT4 will have its first birthday.

The delay is definately to do with the translation of GT4......think about it, all those cars with their history write up, all the menus, settings etc etc...I will take a long time because it is a huge game! :scared: although there is not excuse to push release dates back and back :grumpy: .....you don't see other game not comming out when they say they will be......the set a release date and DO IT!.....why should PD be special......every other game that is up for pre-order has a release date.....then you see GT4.....and its the only one with TBA !.....what a joke!

I just stated what IGN's updated release date list says.

I don't nessessarily believe it, but I wouldn't be shocked.

Let's hope, along with everything else, IGN is wrong about this.
If they're right, you might want to send your e-mail anyway

Dear Sony,

I have a problem, and it's all your fault. I have no life. I should have a life, playing GT4, but since you haven't released it yet, I have no life. So, instead of doing something good or decent with my life, I'm sending this letter of my personal fellings to you. Fellings of how much I hate you, because you haven't yet released GT4. Don't you realize how much you've wronged me! Shame on you!

You are poop.

Sincerely,

Mr. Pathetic Loser.

I just hope they do a better translation of GT4 than they did on GT2.Example: 1971 Plymouth GTX,they just called it Muscle Car(that is some crappy translation)

Man this is plain dumb.
Translation problems my arse.
As far as I learned in world history most Euro countries have English as a second language. So for PD to claim they can't translate it in a timely fashion...
Just goto one of those free translation sites! Can go from english to like 8 other languages. And it's true they will still make crap loads of errors.
Like calling the Mustang SVT Cobra R, a normal Cobra in the description.
It has a 5.4l v8 while the normal Cobra has only a 4.6.
And only race-car drivers where eligable to buy a Cobra R from a dealership.
Cobra R also had special exhaust setup to quiet it down, and racing suspension.

Lots of probs in the translations. But hey what do you expect. Can't have 650+ cars and 50+ tracks and have trouble free translations etc.

Granted I'm in the USA, but we still get the shaft. Most games come out in Japan way before we get them. Yeah It's getting better, but Tekken 4 took almost 8 months to come here and it still had all of the glitches and of course some poor translation. And you guys even got it before us by like 2 days! lol. Yeah it sucks to have to wait, but atleast during your wait you have people telling you about it. Between USA and Japan the language barrier is vast. While Europe has a fair amount of enlgish speakers who can get the info from Us and give it to the folks who can't speak english.

pd has a VERY big team behind them, i wouldnt of thought translation would be that much of a problem.

us BRITISH and other PAL users cant do anythin about it. wer just goin to have to sit back and watch streams of pictures, videos and reviews of GT4 from various websites. oh well.

So Sony and PD dont have enough intelligence and foresight to work on this stuff, in the 3+ years the games been in developement.

What sort of Project management is that?

My thoughts exactly!

I suppose it comes down to money, or 'profit' i should say. PD could have supplied translators for each country with an early draft of the material well in advance, then once the final draft was made it would take a matter of days to finish all versions. I work in publishing and belive me, a professional out fit could have done those translations a lot quicker than they've managed!

As much as people complain about this and that, at the end of the day a huge percentage of the people who will end up buying GT4, and video-games in general, are just clueless punters who have no idea about release dates, translation issues, network problems etc. etc. When they see the game on the shelf, they will pick it up and buy it. Of course the developer and distributers want it out as soon as possible, but they're not going to lose too many sales, if any, out of the delay. In the meantime we'll just have to be patient.

I concur,

I'm a computer programmer and we have provide our foreign language "experts" with an excel document with translations in every 3 months or so... they usually return it fully translated within a week and we import that into the software. Our software has 5 languages (including English) and this process is very simple.

This delay is very very lame and I'm disappointed with PD for not having any foresight and for not being able to sort this out during production...

Unless of course in the last couple of weeks they've been adding tracks & cars wholesale and have completely swamped the translators with work to do... that is the only thing that I can see that has happened!

C,

This is what I was thinking also, I doubt PD that doesn't have such a thing inplace. As for PAL encoding, yes it may take a while but PD aren't new to this game. Still to be honest my enthusasm for GT4 has dropped considerably since the announcement of a further delay especially after canning the online mode in the 'proper' GT4 release, as you may have noticed. I was expecting a lot from GT4, hoping it would make up for GT3 but its already fallen short. (Obviously it should still be a great game, but not groundbreaking).

I've noticed that all the people who argue that GT4 being delayed until april 05 is not a problem are from regions that are still expecting the game before Xmas this year - strange that

Any theories on what the real reasons for the European delay are?

Seriously, PD are not an insignificant developer and have produced several versions of GT in the past. Are we really supposed to believe that they didn't start translating languages and regions (NTSC to PAL) during development of the game?

KY - GT4's finished
Sony - ..and it looks great, just send over the versions for different territories and we'll start shipping
KY - ****, I knew I was forgetting something...

its felt like Homer Simpson has been project managing GT4 for the past 18 months

I will be buying the Japanese version as soon as it hits the shelves here in HK. It is still being released in Japan on the 3rd of December 2004, isn't it?

"Annoyed by the latest release date ship? Then do something about it." Had I lived in Europe, I wouldn't seriously be bothered. I'm sure I can do my school work, take on people at the arcades, hit on some Euro cuties, or something like that. I have plenty of Plan B's. Is John boy bothered? Not at all. As I've said, I can wait.

Now let's get some facts down. I'm from America, and the American date won't change unless the airplanes run out of fuel and have to have canoes catapult packages of GT4 out to America. I'm sure this won't happen, but I can wait. Normally, I'm not impatient. But this is just a game. Maybe even more than a game. You may see me type "BRING ON GT4," but I'm not like "please release GT4 or else..." I never will. So I'm not bothered if it comes late, as long as it comes. Keep in mind, plans for "Duke Nuken Forever" have been around since 1997 at least. And it's not out yet. Neither is GT4 out. If we put up at least two years for "Star Ocean, Till the End of Time," or the upcoming HALO game, then GT4 is still anxiously awaited. And I don't mind waiting. Oh, and if Kazunori Yamauchi was full of you-know-what, GT4 would be glitchy and have bugs and crash about as often as my computer sometimes. As I said before, be thankful it's coming out soon, even if by next Christmas.

So what am I doing about it? Biding my time... and if you can't wait that bad, calm down. And on top of that, I'm sorry for you European folk having to wait longer for this highly-anticipated game.

hell yeah john its aboyt time someone said that while we were having fights at lunchtime at 13 ky started a physics club the mans a genius and a little respect should be shown here . for know play gta:sa and prologue the release date isnt for early 2005 in australia and it was previously novemember 14 2004 !!!!

I'm going out on a limb here on a theroy of mine, but maybe KY delayed the PAL release because he was mad that you guys demanded him to port Prolouge to PAL, which did happen? Especially since he stated that it was made for JAPAN/NTSC and only for them alone???
That added delay had to interfier"sp" with the development of bspec mode or photomode or some other mode we dont even know about, maybe even weather effects. Maybe in his mind he feels that you guys punished him by taking his devolpment teams time away from GT4 to port Prolouge so hes punishing you guys by adding that lost time to the GT4 PAL version release??? The translation reason is just a cover up.
Since we here in North America didnt make all TOO much of a deal about never getting the GT sub games hes showing a spout of kindness and releasing GT4 a mere 11 days after he releases it in Japan!!! :D  just a theroy of mine, probally not true but ya never know if it could be  Wouldnt it just be crazy if KY did an autobiography years from now and admitted to that!!!

Maybe they are having a problem translating everything, but I too find that hard to believe since it shouldnt take 4 months to do all of that especially since were just about a month and a half away from the projected release dates. But then again i'm not a translator and we really dont know how much text really has to be translated.

Want something to do in the meantime while waiting for gt4? try Gta:san Andreas scored 9.9 on ign and 9.6 at gamespot :) :) 👍

So basically you're saying, "Shush, you're cramping my excitement over getting GT4 in December with all your complaining."

How long have we been waiting for GT4 now? If PD hadn't mentioned it, we wouldn't be anticipating it. They were the ones who said "look how cool our product is, and you'll be able to have it soon." That was back in 2003.

PD are just teases.

A reply from Sony:
"...
Thank you for your recent correspondence.

The localisation of GT4 across the PAL territories is a huge
undertaking as the product is localised into 13 different languages. Therefore
the process takes considerably longer than it does in Japan and the US.
The GT brand strives for perfection, therefore we need to ensure that
the localisation and testing of the product is done to the highest
possible standard.

Please note that this is the first time that a PAL release date for GT4
has been confirmed..."

So they reckon it will take three months to translate and test GT4 into 13 languages? :dunce:

Well, I suppose it's good that they're giving the 'work experience' pupils something to do...

edit - Surely it's harder to translate to a different alphabet (Japanese to English) than just translate languages. I'm starting to believe they really did forget to work on the PAL version.

What i don't get is why they don't launch a english only version for christmas, then launch the multi language version when it's done. That way they wouldn't be loosing 3 months of sales on a product thats ready for release. If you can cut online from the launch, then you can cut multi-language support to.

The GT brand strives for perfection, therefore we need to ensure that
the localisation and testing of the product is done to the highest

Run that through the bull**** filter

"Damn, we screwed up, lets pretend it's a quality issue! YYHUK HYUK!"
