Now I hate the Nascars even more!!!!

Why don't use the FIA or DTM cars instead....well yeah...NASCAR....uhhm..paid more? :grumpy:

oh well, then wait another 6 years or so, till the PS4 released and maybe GT6 with it. :(

Two years wouldn't have made any difference to this game because after those two years were up he would have wanted another two, and then two more after that.

That article doesn't highlight that GT5 wasn't finished because Sony "rushed" them to release it. The article highlights that Yamauchi is unable to set-out from the start what he wants to achieve in black and white and go about creating that within a controlled and structured time-frame.

Whilst Yamauchi's input into this game makes it what it is, his inability to work to deadlines and the way that PD are pretty much given free-reign to do whatever they want by Sony actually ends up hurting the project.

Ideas get added, half implemented and some thrown away entirely. This wasted time hurts the core of the game in the end, and what you get it GT5; a lot of ideas all half finished and compromising everything else.

I could have waited another year, if it means the game woulda been better all round. I can understand Kaz's quest for perfection.

Personally i love the premium cars - so much detail its not funny - this is the sort of thing i expect from PD. Shape wise, even the cars from GT2 still look better than some cars in next gen console games.

As technology continues to advance at such an insane pace, games will take longer and longer to make because so much more detail can and has to be added to them to make them stand out from the older console games.

There are plenty of other games out there to play in the meantime, and failing that there is an outside world to explore.

Agree with you. Another 2 years and no difference. Putting it all together now what this game, project, company needs is FOCUS. Sounds like Kaz doesn't yet realize that. Like he's still got ALL these ideas he wants to implement but no real plan. Someone else mentioned Game Development Director. I think that's spot on!

A guy who can say this is what we want to get to on this project, lets take those other ideas and shelve them til the next project. We have to be here (X).

I was drawing a conclusion on Kaz/Sony. Kaz was content to wait and wait and put ALL his ideas into it. Sony wants the $$$. Don't you think he was pushed to pay the bills and make a profit?

I'm also not for a whole bunch of DLC. Lets just work on not making the same mistakes in the next one and get it out in the next 2 years.

Well there would be many thing that could have been added, but at some point it just gets a bit too complicated. As you said some things aren't perfect yet, so better fix that first...

The motor swap thing is just something I don't need at all, why would I want to drive a BMW with an Audi engine or a Ferrari with a Skyline engine? I don't see any benefit in it...

Why would people drive around with stupid things on there car? Just because they could do it and think its funny, there are too many boys and not yet that grown up men out there...

What really makes me frustrated is when people try to force their opinions on what is needed and what is not needed in an agressive way as was shown here.
I want a custom livery on the car - period. Why? Because i want to -period. If it will be implemented that I do not know. But for sure i do not want to hear other people complaining about my wish for implementing this feature and telling me to play FORZA.
I guess they are affraid that some of their wishes will not be implemented if other things are implemented. :scared: - the hater thinks: damm if their wish will be implemented my wish will not be, lets complain about this that this is not needed -
Grow up people - there are thousends of players who are playing Gran Turismo 5 and all have different wishes. And guess what - wait for it - not everything will be implemented. :scared:
Just have to wait and see.

Oh no, what a tragedy.

Keep the crying going, I'm sure your mothers will turn up eventually and fix all this.

I think the interview just proves 2 things.

a) The whole thing is a rush-job.

b) Kaz or even the whole of PD live completely removed from reality. GT is these day designed to fulfill their ideas, not the expectation of the people, who are expected to buy it. Just compare it to GT2. GT2 had what? 500, 600 cars? That was more than enough and one hugely popular feature was, that for almost all of them there was a race modification, for many a car even several different variants to choose from. So they saw that it made entirely too much sense and left it out in the succeeding releases. They brought it back for GT5, but only 17 (!!) out of 1031 cars. It would have been less an insult to just leave it out again. GT is the only title that I can remember, which has been consequently made worse with each release.

1. Race mods. Very popular with GT2 -> removed
2. B-Spec. Very cleverly implemented in GT4 -> removed and re-added in a useless fashion
3. Qualifying. Very welcomed addition -> removed
4. Popular Tracks like Amalfi, Citta d'Aria, Midlfield -> removed and substituted by bland sceneries like Cape Ring

Quite frankly it looks as if they deliberately try to remove features that become too popular *shrug*

Why would people make custom liveries... no one would do that... oh wait, in the real world there are millions of custom liveries yeah no one would do that... I mean it's not like custom liveries have proved themselves to be a huge and valuable part of a racing video game on a console recently... nah...

Why would you want to engine swap? Weird.. people pay thousands to swap engines between cars... sure there couldn't be any possible reason.

lol Custom Liveries no one would do that ? men you have no clue !
Everybody with a tuned car would put some Decals or some stript on the car.

and Engine swap, i see a Tons of people buying a Civic Ek4 and engine swap for a Integra engine.

, Wake up !

Two years would have made a lot of difference, if I may dare to say so. It's an extra 30-50% development time and it could probably have meant twice as much content.

Time = work, and although you may believe that they don't actually do anything in the studio except for taking coffe breaks and letting the magical mystery game fairy adding everything in the night when everyone is asleep, the reality is that an extra two years would have made a lot of difference. The game may not have been complete then in terms of being perfect in all ways, but it would have been bigger and better.

I'm not sure. Two years would have made a difference if they were working to a finite goal, but the problem that this game has suffered from is that the more time they took, the more they tried to add in addition to what they had originally planned to incorporate from the start. If you gave them two more years no doubt some of the content that feels half-finished now would have been more complete, but there'd also just be more additional content above what we have now with an incomplete feel to it.

That is the game's problem. They don't have a clearly defined goal at which point the game is considered finished, and because of this content keeps being added in an almost endless stream (obviously some of which will be incomplete once Sony eventually say that enough is enough and the game needs to be released.)

In the case of Gran Turismo, i don't think that outsourcing is a good idea. In my opinion, it might get the job done more quickly but it'll add more bugs and won't get the job done the way Kaz wants it. In that case GT might loose its "soul".

Maybe it would have lost its' soul but hopefully have been a better product.

Another 2 years?!?!

Yeah, as I explained in my reply to the article, Kaz needs to be replaced by someone more competent who can actually get something done in a realistic amount of time. It's simply not acceptable for a developer to drag their feet for the better part of a decade on a single game; so long that by the time it's finished at least half of what he's done appears last-gen by comparison to other games of its day.

You can't realistically expect to do a billion different things and for the whole world to just wait for a decade for you to do some of those things. Release a friggin' game and put some of those things off on the next project like the rest of the real world. We get tired of waiting and dreaming about a game after half a decade. The other guys can do more in half the time.

I would've waited 2 years for it much better with DTM and FIA-GT.

Shouldn't have to wait two more years for that. Kaz shouldn't need almost a decade for just one game. Adding a couple more series shouldn't add two more years to a game's development cycle unless there's like one guy working on the entire game all by himself. He can add that stuff to the next bloody game.

That article is also a year old so it would actually only be one year - AKA - Fall 2011.

Not that big of a deal if you ask me.

We didn't ask. Even one additional year is a big deal, and two years would be criminal. He's had all the time in the friggin' world already. This sort of gross incompetence wouldn't be tolerated elsewhere in the industry. The rest of the industry expects results in much shorter time scales.

Now, at that point someone from the GTFDL would be quick to argue that perfection takes time, and time is why GT5 is such a fantastic product that beats other racing games into the ground, but they'd be talking out their butts. The only thing GT5 really has over FM3 is a somewhat better feel to the driving. FM3 beats GT5 in just about every other way, and various other racing games also beat GT5 in various ways, and that's all just looking at consoles, as PC have offerings with superior driving physics as well. FM3 offered almost twice as many Premium cars, more tracks, and all of those tracks being new or heavily-updated, not to mention online features that are a thousand times superior to GT5.

Kaz already took too long accomplishing too little. More time wouldn't have been acceptable. "Please, more time!" is the plea of the dumb kid that's still struggling to complete a test an hour after the rest of the class went home from school. That's Kaz right there, spending way too long to get the work done and afterward still scoring more poorly than the guys that needed less than half the time.

It's not as if the years after GT4 were solely dedicated to GT5. They released Tourist Trophy and other Gran Turismo variants that led up to GT5. Much of the data from those variants were probably not transferred directly to GT5, either.

Actual development time for GT5 was probably more like three years at most.

No, they've actually been working on GT5 for quite a while. An early version of the game was shown at E3 2005, although that early version had little in common with the final game except probably a bunch of the old models that now appear as "Standard" and probably a bunch of GT5's many tracks that are of last-gen quality. Either way, some sort of work on the project goes back at least that far.

Besides that, considering that they really only produced a little over 200 new cars for the game and some new tracks (many of them are not new to GT5 and apparently not even updated for the game), three years would still have been more than enough time. As I've already argued, rivals Turn 10 produced more than that in less time (just two years). Remember, none of the cars or tracks in FM3 are lifted straight from FM2, but rather any overlapping content has been completely overhauled for FM3, so all of FM3's content is actually new FM3 content and not just cheaply recycled. Every single car model has ten times the polygons of FM2 car models, for example.

Alright, I quit.

Kaz didn't make GT5 for whiny babies like you. Some of us appreciate GT5.

FM4 is out this year. Look forward to and enjoy that game.

Until you have created anything as remotely susccessful and enjoyable as GT5 stop talking like you know better. Else you're just another whiny in his bedroom talking out his arse.

Kaz made the game for people to buy and delivered an incomplete result, which is why some of us cannot really appreciate it.

Some of us are also software designers themselves and can actually see the telltale signs of it not being designed well and rushed in many areas. And before you ask. While I have never made a game for a game console, I've worked in projects that dwarf the scale of GT5, so I claim to know enough about software design and programming to make a statement.

And you don't even have to be a software designer to see the obviously cut corners in GT5 by simply comparing it to its preceding titles, which had their fair share of issues, but were at least mostly finished and polished.

So, please, stop bashing people, only because they don't agree with you.

What everyone wants in this game, and more, is in reality not possible(maybe in the future) but every game i have ever played, i have always found details, on what could make the game alot more better, sure GT5 may have more than others, but people just expected way too much, and i don't blame ya. in all honesty i could of waited another 2 years, because after 4 years waiting, i stopped caring about it, and never searched up on google when it would be released, so another 2 years would of been fine for me.

All i know is, i have played GT5 longer then any other PS3 title, second only to GT4.

I love gt5 ,why dont they make a gt6 with premium cars and the other things that should have been in gt5? it wouldnt take long to make that 2-3 years it would be perfect.

Yeah, we shouldn't be allowed to criticize or have an opinion on ANYTHING unless we do it too, right? Makes a ton of sense.

I find it hillarious when people try to claim that GT5 took 5 years to develop......because yeah......it's not like PD released anything else in all that time is it :dunce:

But the way that development time keeps creeping up ever since the game came out is even funnier.

It took 5 years.......it took 6 years......now were up to taking the best part of a decade..... :dopey:

I love the people on these forums......you make me laugh.

You should all thank your lucky stars that GT isn't developped by Blizzard Entertainment. You'd never see the light of day to a sequel, until 6 consoles later. I respect Kaz, and his "efforts" , yes the game has shortcomings, even if a little on the major side, however, I would play HIS games over 20 other racing titles that are , have been out to market, ANY day. I value how a game creator is Hands-On from start to finish, god forbid this was outsourced .. REALLY>? outsource a driving simulator? Good GRIEF.

As I approach an age that is somewhat over the hill, I have played videogames for the most part of my life since PacMan, and there is nothing I'd rather do more, than to create my own videogame for the masses, even if it would take me over 6 years to do it. I know that if your gut tells you want a certain something in a game, where game play comes before "publishing", it will take time, but the efforts are far more rewarding.

People curse at PD and Kaz, only because they are passionate about this game, and that is fine too :) I think he knows our hate is masked by the love of his game. GT5 & PS3 & driving wheel & 720p & Surround sound & time to play it, how lucky are we afterall.

The only thing I wish for, is for the next GT game for PS4, to be released somewhat early , to release alongside the PS4, and not 3 years later as was with the PS3 launch. Sony, Nvidia, IBM, give PD a prototype Now! :)

Did I question if GT5 had cuts? Did I question it's design process?

Nope.

Did I bash a 14 year old boy in his bedroom for thinking he knows better than a world-famous successful game developer?

Yes I did.

So, please, understand what you're replying to before you reply.

Don't over simplify. That's what children do.

Oh noes.

Read his reply to your post, you'll understand he isnt 14 like you wish he was and he's obviously got more experience in 'the biz' than you must for not being able to understand his statements or what he's trying to get across.

We must look like ants from that high horse of yours?
