The stand is good value for money. The only drawback (same with Playseats) is the center bar. However, on the RSWS the bar is very close to you, so it doesn't tend to get in the way of your legs.

;)

Hey - do you know if i will need to do any drilling or anything like that with the RSWS?

Anyone who has had a problem updating, either hasn't read the manual properly (easily the biggest offender) or hasn't read the instructions on the website.

If you follow the directions to the letter you will not have any problems.

I followed the directions to the letter on my desktop and it hangs on the update every time. On my laptop it works fine. The problem is the software updater.

Updateing the firmware is indeed a piece of cake if you have general PC knowledge and follow the directions.

In my case I did not do everything in the directions and still had no issues at all. For example the directions tell you to re-boot your pc and disable virus scanners, stop all other programs and such. These are mostly safegaurds incase you have some program running that may interfere or a virus scanner that would cause an issue.

I simply plugged in the USB cable ran the program, executed the first update, pointed to the USB driver and after it completed ran the second part of the update. No problem. Of course I am a developer running a very stable instance of Windows XP 32 bit SP3 that has not been rebooted now in at least a month :)

Trust me I have more than general pc knowledge. My pc is watercooled in a modded case with a triple 120mm radiator for the nb, cpu and gpu.

If you have xp it is clear you won't run into any problems of signed drivers anyway. The issue is the installer.

You shouldn't have to, no. It's pre-drilled for Fanatec wheels.

No...

What are you running on your laptop/desktop respectively?

I had the exact same issue. I received an email from Katie Brubaker (are similar) saying my ordered shipped on the 17th. USPS website still says received electronic shipping notice on Nov 18th. I contacted the shipping lady and she states that it is a problem with USPS and that it in fact shipped out on the 17th. I guess we'll see.

I too am not impressed with the US distributor. They took my money on the 10th. Sent me a notice on the 11th that it would be shipping. I thought that that meant it would actually ship. Didn't get an actual shipping notice until the 17th. I went back and read the email I got on the 11th and in the small print it says it may not ship until 1 week later. Not sure why they send you a notice that it's shipping if it really isn't shipping. Oh well. They did send it priority international so hopefully it's here soon.

Looks like we're in the same boat. I'm from Calgary, btw.

Kate Brubaker also told me that it's a problem with USPS and they only thing she can do is "assure me that we shipped it on the 17th". I asked German support (someone named Claudia who helped me with the payment issue) and she forwarded my concern to the shipping warehouse in the USA however a different CSR responded, who's name is also Claudia. She said asked me if I wanted them to ship the order out again because "USPS may have lost it". I've sent her my order number and receipt number on Friday but she hasn't got back to me. I tried calling her but I can't get through from work.

It's a bit of an issue with regards to tracking because with the weather here (super cold, snowy, and windy) I'd like to know when I should be expecting the order just in case the pick up slip that Canada Post leaves blows away or falls into the snow and gets shoveled away.

Like I said before, my wheel was tracked right through but the stand seems like it's been neglected or lost or USPS tracking doesn't work the way I think it works (someone scans the package and it updates tracking at the same time).

If the one order takes as long as the order I should have it today or at the very latest by the end of the week but who knows where it is.

That is probably why you had an issue on one and not the other.

If you have a version that supports it you might want to try XP Mode in the virtual machine. I do not know if this will work for the firmware update but it very well might.

Yah i'm pretty sure that is it.

That's a good idea. The laptop has 7-64bit pro which does have that mode versus the desktop on 7-home.

Hmmm... Other than changing one step (due to the Windows 7 64Bit) you should not have any problems whatsoever. It sounds like you just didn't install the driver (necessary for Windows 7 64bit systems). If the driver is not manually installed, it will "hang up" as you said.

Again, easily solved if the directions are followed.

;)

first time for me on Win7 64bit Home Premium. Just needed to select the "unknown device" in the device manager and "upgrade driver" pointing to the fanatec one as the Add Device wizard wouldn't detect it (obviously). Once that was done step 2 went through and job done, took about 3 minutes. And I have McAffee installed which is not able to be turned off without alot of hassle, just disabled the real time scanning and firewall - worked fine.

PWC by the way.

If the one order takes as long as the order I should have it today or at the very latest by the end of the week but who knows where it is.

My shipment consists of 4 seperate packages (I assume for the stand, wheel, shifter and CSP). All 4 tracking numbers give the same Nov 18 electronic notification. If it was a lost package you would think it would only affect 1 package. So to me it's either the USPS tracking system isn't working (like what Kate said) or the shipper hasn't actually shipped anything yet. My guess is it's the former and if it's the latter I'll be extremely pissed.

One reason why I think it's USPS is that twice since November 18th their website has been non-functional when I attempted to use it. Their mobile site has never even recognized the tracking numbers. So for now I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. That won't last long though.

I see that your wheel took 6 days from drop off to delivery. So they should definitely have these to us by the end of this week. I'll give them to Monday to get it to me then I'll get nervous.

I had a similar problem with a package (non-Fanatec related) regarding USPS and their tracking system.

I wouldn't worry about it...

;)

So is the GT3RS V2 + clubsport pedals any good? Anyone try it with GT5 yet?

Are there enough buttons to use? Doesn't look like it...

its got plenty of buttons. it should be just as good as the pwts. and the clubsport pedals should be excellent. I cannot personally confirm for another 24 hours. Here's some of the buttons labled. You can download the wheel manuals off of fanatec's website.

I wouldn't worry too much about USPS website. It's jacked up! Ordered from Amazon & for some reason tracking thru Amazon's website had more up-to-date info than USPS's website!!!

So I'm about to order a PWC and Stand this week for GT5, Does anyone know if Fanatec has any black friday/cyber monday type sales I should wait a few days for?

To be perfectly honest, I think it's best to buy it now and potentially pay those 10% more than get a text saying "out of stock, taking pre-orders" one week later :)

Guys who are having trouble with USPS do not worry. I've ordered many things through USPS and it rarely updates.

USPS tracking is more for proof of delivery rather than actually tracking where the package is.

Hope your right, I ordered mine on Nov 18th and received 4 USPS tracking #'s on the 19th but 3 business days later, this is all that shows on the USPS web site:

Class: Priority Mail International Parcels
Service(s): International Parcels
Status: Electronic Shipping Info Received

Loving it so far. Playing iRacing atm, GT5 tomorrow :D First wheel I have owned so has taken some getting used to but definitely glad I bought one.

I only got my first wheel on Sunday, a DFGT, and it does take some getting used to! Tonight I finally beat one of my old time trial times from prologue, it's taken about 4 hours of driving to get there. To start with I was around 2 seconds a lap slower and although I was loving the driving experience was wondering if I'd ever beat my DS3 times.

Ordered a GT3RS wheel last night, kind of bought the DFGT as a test but I know there's no going back to a pad now!

Have fun with your Fanatec, very jealous as delivery of mine won't be before January :(

Glad to hear it. It takes a little while to really get used to using a wheel instead of a controller. However, you'll get there soon enough, and be faster than you ever were before.

;)

pufff... seeing the last compatibility problem, I see there is no wheels in PS3 beyond Logitech.

Fanatec wheels are fully inadvisables.

And why is it you say this? My Fanatec is by far the best one I have ever used.

Care to elaborate?

So far everyone with a copy of GT5 and a Fanatec wheel, I have talked to, says they work just fine.

Mine works well on all my other PS3 games.

Personally, nothing could make me go back to a Logitech, with it's huge deadzone area, buttons that can hardly ever be mapped to anything unless on PC, and no tuning options whatsoever...
