R.I.P Guido Falaschi. Looks to me like South American stock car series. I've had a Brazilian pro driver before say that these cars are incredibly unsafe.

Was this the same series that had a fatality at Interlagos earlier this year?

Sand should never be bordering a track. Aside from that, the death might have been avoided if the rest of the field had slowed down once the initial crash happened. I can't believe that they were going through there at a fairly good rate of speed with all the dust blocking the view and cars scattered about.

Track didn't look very safe either. The series should look into making these cars safer for the drivers.

RIP

According to the telemetry, from what I've read/heard, Dan Wheldon never touched his brakes either.
I don't have a source for that though.

The difference, as has already been pointed out, is that Dan had no time to react to what happened in front of him.

Not another one.

As always, thoughts and prayers be with the family and friends.

this is not brazilian, this is the argentinian TC2000.

the guy who lost the control of the car first was with blue flag, because the leaders were about to lap him, most of the people in the comments of youtube blame that guy.

Instead of blame the attention should be on how to make it safer if possible. Sad it only comes up when we lose one racer again.

First thing I thought of. Including after the incident was over and all those cars came flying through there racing for position through the mess. :yuck:

Is it just me or are more racers dying this year than ever?
There has been a few high profile deaths but certainly not more than ever. Back in the early days of motorsport and up to the '70s-'80s you would've been lucky to get out alive.

Dont tell me that they didnt have time to hit the brakes......it takes no more than 0.1 sec. to hit the brake pedal. They stay on the throttle to try and cane spots before a safety car/caution.

These guys had time to hit the brakes. I'm a bit surprised that there isn't a yellow light on the dashboard that informs them of a caution. As for Wheldon, its decelerating from 225 MPH in an instant? no chance.

This is another sad day for Motorsport, unfortunately this is a chance every driver or rider takes every time they race, and they know the risks, that being said, may he RIP. Godspeed Guido you will be missed :(

I think it maybe due to it being the last lap making the drivers push harder than normal in such situations.

The track safety is just terrible. I'm watching an argentinian show where they are analizing the accident. The following video is from the same track, same weekend, same category. The driver was very lucky, and is fine now:

Sadly over the years the very same type of accident has happen on the same corner, yet nothing has been done.
The other problem is that the drivers kept driving flat during/after the accident. I'm not aware of the safety of the cars, but sure there is room for improvement.

In general racing tracks from south america need huge improvements in safety, Balcarse is just an example.

RIP Guido

They need to improve the safety! Their still using tire barriers more than the more modern walls. I don't even see gravel traps
