Another time trial ruined by that damn 2J race car

i have no issue with people using the 2J if regulations allow it. however i think that time trials should not allow any driving aids at all. bit silly when using race cars with abs, tc, active steering etc... which they wouldn't have in the first place.

TT should test driver ability. it's a totally different thing being fast without abs vs with, as it actually requires a lot more driver input. (also i think abs has some other assist included which is akin to stability management of some type, not sure regular abs has this in real life. my car doesnt) may as well allow racing softs if you allow aids

i am not an alien driver by any stretch of the imagination, just an average player at best. but i fail to see the point in beating a TT by 20 sec a lap with aids on. would be more impressed to see leaderboards of guys not using aids tbh. maybe PD should at least have some sort of filter to see who are the real fast drivers.

just my 2 cents

I'm not a fan of the TT's that have been implemented into GT5. I take 5 minutes to grab the gold and move on. They really should limit them by car. But that is just my opinion.

which is why i say PD should just provide the cars for the TT events. They have done it before and shows it can be done.. sign our feedback form and vote, maybe PD will take notice http://feedback.gtplanet.net/forums/96709-gt5-feedback/suggestions/2236252-seasonal-tt-should-be-same-as-the-amg-event-car-p

I'm not familiar what was done by PD in the past. I think there is value to test drive TT cars on other tracks to help understand it's characteristics and then to better apply what you learned to the assigned TT track. Does that mean the "PD issued car" car would have to become a permanent part of my garage in order for me to test it on other tracks?

As soon as you entered the event you were assigned a specific car and when you left the event you no longer had that car.

What I don't get is how you can expect to have a proper time trial event in the first place without spec requirements. :odd:

PP does not suffice.

For me half the fun of TTs is trying different cars and seeing how well I can do in them. I never just pick the best car for job (I don't have a 2J in my garage anyway). To be limited to one car would spoil this although it would certainly make the leader boards more equitable. As I'm very unlikely to be near the top in any car this doesn't bother me. Being able to filter the leader board by car would be cool though.
I think the use of aids is a bit of a non-issue. Although they may help you get round without crashing most decent drivers will be ultimately faster without them.

For me its simple economics. That 2J cost me 15 million credits. I need it to win at least 15 million credits or it was an unwise purchase. Hopefully I can use it to win 2-3 times my investment. That's the (offline) basis of the game right, win credits to buy more cars. Best place to win 1 million credits -- Time trials. It isn't the easiest car to drive with a DS3, so I get a challenge out of it. Now I'm wating for that R390 road car.

Best TT lately was the 700PP @ Sarthe. 2J wasn't competitive, so I got to use all the other cars I bought with my 2J winnings. That TT and GT academy at the same time made it the best two weeks I've had in GT5. Thanks PD!

Here I was thinking that 550 pp time trial at Tsukuba would be pretty awesome. It may feel like a proper time attack event, but only to be ruined by the fact that unless you use a 2J race car running comfort soft tires you won't make it into the rankings list. I'm over seeing the 2J covering time trial leader boards, anyone else out there want to see a mixture of different cars make up a leader board?

I feel the same way. I posted in the TT forum about my achievement of taking 7 laps to nail a perfect 1:06.665 with a Lambo Countach LP400 & bought a Lotus Evora for Grand Valley Reverse & golded without even a perfect lap with a PP of 494: -156 below par!

I was hoping that by posting my times with the car i'd prefer to use & mildy tuned we could compare our acheivements with interesting & informative discussions. Instead the forum was over-run by idiots wanting to borrow a 2J!

And no i wouldn't want to be forced to use a car stock. Tuning, (NOT TURBO-CHARGING) is half the fun! :D

And i wouldn't even want to be forced to use 1 specific car.

E.g. At Sarthe, i'd prefer the Puegot 908; At Monza, i'd prefer the Ferrari 599; At Grand Valley, i'd prefer the Lambo Gallardo; At tight tracks like London/Monnaco, i'd prefer the Lotus Evora.

And of course other people will prefer slightly different cars to suit their driving style. The solution i would like to see would be the ability to sort the rankings by car. That would be awesome!

Too many people take the fun out of it by trying to get the best time with the least challenge, top times are always 2J, R390 road car or some other ringer car that can post times without too much effort. I enjoy challenges and like to run street cars or cars under the pp limit, but will never get a top 1000 time if people keep cheating themselves out of a challeng and oportunity to hone their skills.

I agree with you 100%! That's how i'm treating the TTs now: How far below PP can i gold with... ;)

Need that adjusted reward back permanently: That's what caused me to try that in the 1st place & i'm addicted to the satisfaction & the sense of achievement that those 2J idiots will never understand. I wonder if they switch off tcs!?

I have a feeling that the majority of the people complaining about the 2j likely haven't got one in their garage, and possibly haven't driven it before (not to hard to do though; just find a friend and have them share it). Those who haven't experienced it before don't really have much say, unless it's a stagering majority with control over the TTs.

It's just like how Audi always wins Le Mans (ok, not always, but many in a row); should we ban them from competing for the sake of competition?

Here's my solution: make another car work. Topple that 2j (or other, "hated" car) from the top with something else. If you can't make it work, then you'd need to accept that unusual car being superior. That would be a real solution for a problem that should never have existed in the first place.

And yes, they do. 3 gears with a top speed of ~210mph means long gears with no wheelspin.

All those colors really make your point dude. With that many colors you must know what you're talking about.

Your "feeling" is a typical straw man argument. Set up the straw man and knock it down. The problem as you see it is sour grapes? That only those who don't have it could possibly be bored with the same car dominating half the TTs? Those who have driven it would surely feel the same as you, right? Those that don't agree with you must, by definition, simply be ignorant?

Your "solution" is to make another car work? Is it your belief that some tuning trick can make another car as fast as the 2J? Do you think the top guys would all drive it if something else could be made faster?

You are missing the point completely. It doesn't matter what car dominates. Some car always will. What matters is that we are tired of the same car every other week.

The solution is so simple a child could see it. A child could do it. Simply make TTs with restrictions that require different cars to be competitive.

PD has proven they can do it. The American TT was awesome. The French TT was great. So why not have great new ones every week?

It just seems they don't care. They let a monkey pick a random PP/tire/track combination, usually forgetting to restrict race cars from what should obviously be street car events, or selecting comfort soft tires for race car events.

How hard can it really be to select track/car/tire combinations that make sense and don't require the same cars as last week and the week before.

Steak is great. I love steak. But I would hate steak if I had to eat it for every meal.

We have over 1,000 cars PD. How about giving us some TTs that use more than 3 of them?

I had meant that if you do have a 2j, you could (in theory) be a bandwagon person and jump into that jumble in order to be competitive, or be a real hero by using something different to achieve similar or better results. Those are the only real possibilities I had in mind.

The latter being the one more appealing to GTP:sly:

I don't have the 2J & i don't want it! I drove it in GT4 & it drove me up the wall.
Always hated it: Always will!

On a lighter note, i take great satisfaction in choosing a 404PP Lotus Elise Type 72 '01 & eventually golding with a 1:10.149. Took me 20 laps to nail a perfect lap, but i got it!

Brakes ft 7 / rr 10 & ride height -20 with anti-roll bars 7.
No tcs, all aids off except abs set on 1. :)

Firstly, triple posting is against the sites rules, its in the AUP you should have read when you joind the site.
Secondly, please don't insult my friends by calling them idiots (insulting other members is also against the AUP) just because you have a different opinion than they may have on what car to use.

I enjoy 2J TT's... I can get top 10000 with it

^Perfectly put^, IMO. This is exactly how I feel about it. The 2J is an awesome car, but, much like your steak analogy, I'm beginning to get sick of it. (So's my wife, btw. I can just hear her: "Not THAT horrible sounding car again!?" )

How would you like it if you weren't allowed to partake in the TTs?

Fair enough, the term 'idiot' i thought was mild enough to be ok, but sure won't happen. But as for triple posting, i haven't read anything about that here:

Moderator, please clarify...

And as for your tuning of the 2J, i can only take my hat for you for being able to do that for the specific track while still not not using tcs. I wrongly assumed you all would just have all the aids on without the skill to tame the intense power. Apologies.

Having said that, in online races if the PP limit is 580, i'm happy to use my Ferrari 599 (591PP) OR Lambo Gallardo (595PP) with the power limiter. But 550? No, because once the power is limited below 80-odd%, it lacks the grunt i need exiting corners.

If you've had to limit the power to 52%, shouldn't that tell you that this car was not 'intended' to be used for this TT? Granted it's your prerogative to do so, but i can't see how it would've been in PD's intentions.

It's more fun to beat it with a lower pp car like the others. Maybe a small bonus for how far under the limit you can beat it and use the $ earned as another form of leaderboard and it would be 2J free.

Exactly! Actually with the power of the 2J limited to 52 %, the 2J would be near the bottom & would earn approx 1/2 the $. :D

No longer pay attention to the main TT leader boards, I just go to my friends list as there always seem to be a good mix of cars on there and just try and beat that time instead.

Its in the FAQ section, here. https://www.gtplanet.net/faq/

Well FAQ essentially is like a help page & as of yet i haven't had a reason to check FAQ because i've had no such need for help in how to use a forum.

And this is in the FAQ...
"However, it is not expressly forbidden, and can be useful in many cases. For example, if a reasonable amount of time has passed or you have significant information to add to the topic, present it in a new post so that others, including thread subscribers, are made aware of the update."
...Not the AUP. Now let's move on. Cheers.

Guys this is my first post here,, great site btw,, silly noob question but how do i get the 2j to run in a 550pp race,, i just got the car from a gift ticket and want to race the seasonal event but the car is too high even after i limit the egine,, help would be great..

Add 200 kg ballast then drop the power to 50% and you should be there, my 2J was 6 seconds faster in the rain at Suzuka than any other 550 Pp car I tried, with no sweat.

I prefer to use the car that available in the car dealer, not the one that hard to find.. :D

PD should just make GT-2j olympics and let people play with that broken car there... 👍

The reason people dislike seeing the 2J on TT's all the time is because its broken PD have not implemented it properly. The 2J is a unique car and if you read the blurb supplied on GT5 you will understand more about the car eg it uses a separate engine to generate low pressure under the car. The car crashed a few times and did not complete a full season of racing because it was banned - or rather a rule change made it 'illegal' for the purpose of racing. Part of the issue being that rocks were being thrown by the car.

The real issue is that PD have not implemented the car into the game properly so the 2J is able to compete against cars with a lower PP then it should be (see example). The 2J's downforce that is applied to the 'PP' should include its total downforce including the downforce generated by its separate engine. This would give the car a much higher PP then is currently being indicated.
Example:
My 2J is 350 HP 936 kg so maybe less power more weight. im 4469 so hardly the best time but it worked out.

Before people start - Yes there will always be a car that is most favourable for a given event, but at least if it is not the 2J its going to be a car that has 4 wheels on the ground and only uses engine(s) to turn the wheels and not for the purpose of generating more downforce.

I thought they redid its PP in v2.03?

Yes, and that's why it has so much downforce for its PP. A snowmobile engine, if I remember correctly.

The car crashed a few times and did not complete a full season of racing because it was banned - or rather a rule change made it 'illegal' for the purpose of racing. Part of the issue being that rocks were being thrown by the car.
The issue was that McLaren (who was being destroyed in CanAm by the 2J) argued that the fan constituted "movable aerodynamic devices," outlawed by the international sanctioning body, the FIA, a rule first applied against the 2E's adjustable wing.

Again, they claim to have fixed its PP in v2.03.

Polyphony Digital
Regarding the Chaparral 2J race car's performance points, the increased performance factor due to the downforce produced by the fan is now calculated.

What?

No. The point is that it's another week and another TT, so another clockwork thread complaining because the OP doesn't want to use the best car for the event for no other reason than he's sick of seeing it.
Clockwork, I tell you.

You want the Seasonal Events to be designed so the 2J can't walk them, then make it known that you want PD to put more effort into the Seasonal Events themselves (defined themes for them would be a good start) rather than complaining about whatever specific car tops each event.

I thought they redid its PP in v2.03?
They did. They added PP to it across the board and fixed a rather massive glitch with the PP when the High RPM turbo is installed. And they can't add much more PP to it as it is now, because it's already fairly close to the highest it could be and still be competitive with other cars under normal conditions.
