Are you happy about the 200 premium cars we've been given? I for one am more than happy. Face it, 200 is not such a bad number, and they are by far the most detailed cars in a game ever!

Keep in mind the good things:
  • 200 cars
  • 20 tracks
  • 16 players online
  • Day/night transition (fully realistic 24h races)
  • Damage
  • Upload online replays to YouTube

Sorry for making another thread. I know there are a lot of them started right now, but I'm just afrain all these discussions will delay the game further in case no one is hapy about what we've been given.

The way I see it, Polyphony could have said "Okay, we can do detailed interiors, but we can only do two hundred of them ... so in the interests of keeping everything the same, let's take them out altogether".

Knowing Kazunori Yamauchi's reputation as a perfectionist, I don't think the decision to stop at two hundred cars was one he would have made lightly. In a perfect world, he'd be able to render all one thousand of them ... but he can't. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Polyphony thought that just one hundred was the most they could do and that Kaz pushed them to double it.

The difference is that this one is positive in nature.

We all need to remember that 200 premium cars is more than we had in GT3. And it wasn't exactly a bad game was it?

It was a shock to me at first. But no cockpit view saves me spending ~£100 on a wheel, i'm sticking to a pad and chase view, like I got used to in GT1 all the way to GT5:P and the TT demo.

The 800 standard cars, although not nearly as good as the premium cars, they have been upscaled and improved a lot since GT4 and if you get a side by side pic of a GT4 car, a standard car and a premium car, the standard car is much closer to the premium car than the GT4 car, because of what PD have done with them.

Lack of full damage for me, isn't a problem. I was only expecting dents, scratches and dirt all along anyway.

The possible lack of customisation in standard cars does concern me though. Like I said in another thread, the premium cars have body panels modelled individually so they might be able to be upgraded with aftermarket parts - Though there is no word on this yet, it is likely in my opinion.

Though for me, If I get 10+ Premium Formula One cars in the game, they will have redeemed themselves. That is all I am asking for at this point.

I wonder if theres SNOW in Gran turismo 5 ? "I love snow" but nobody knows if there is SNOW in Gran Turismo 5 and ICE on the roads aswell ?

Yes the 200 premium cars look amazing. But the other 80% of the cars in game do not. This kills a lot for me.

Um, I'm pretty sure the premium tag only applies to the interiors. Even if it doesn't, the standard cars are still better than those in GT4. Taken on their own, they've very good. They're just eclipsed by the two hundred premiums.

In terms of cockpit and interior view, makes no odds to me. However, I do think it was a dumb move on their part to split the game like this. 500 great looking cars with near identical features is better than 1000 cars where 80% of them don't even look as good as those in Forza 3.

So, we have twice as many cars than Forza3, with more detail and higher resolution on the outside, but only a fifth of those will have interiors? That's more than we had in GT4.

Bumper cam FTW. If I want an interior, I'll build one around my TV (honestly, we race with an LCD screen installed on a rollcage in front of a racing bucket... interior cam is mostly redundant.

I don't care, anymore. I just want my game ASAP.

Well i honestly don't mind anyway. With all the new features in GT5, ig uess i have a lot to do then only rant ont he standard cars.

200 are still lots of car but I hope they can increase more.

Also I want them to make standard model look comparable at least. The difference should not be day and night. I think car manufacture will not be pleased to see their car is not premium in GT

They already have 200 gorgeous looking, most accurate model cars. The gfx of GT5 will make Flopza look bad.

Standard models looks really bad compared to premium in that 30 odd sec video but we haven't seen much of it.

Gran Turismo 3 had about 180 cars, and that was more than enough to keep me happy for 4 years.
200 cars modelled in incredible detail is fine for me. The extra 800 is a bonus. 👍

At first I was dissapointed with PD, but then you realize just how big this game will be. I am very pleased with the 200 premium cars so long as they include the main cars and manufacturers (e.g LP640, Mclaren F1, Bugatti Veyron, etc.) Polyphony have made these 200 individual cars to look absolutley incredible and I think we all need to applaud their efforts. Sure the whole 1000 would have been nothing short of spectacular but sacrifices need to be made in order to include other features. 1 thing I really hope for are premium DLC cars after launch or maybe to upgrade a few of the current "standard" cars to premium in a new update. Either way I am happy.

I have a question: Will the standard cars have blacked-out windows so you can't see the interior? I hope this is true because this meens the LP640 in the trailer is premium :D.

where 80% of them don't even look as good as those in Forza 3.
How can you say that since you haven't seen any gameplay of the standard cars? Thats an argument based on no information that could start a war in gtplanet:ouch:

I find it perfectly acceptable that PD decided to include all or most of all the cars from previous games even if with less detail, rather than keeping them out of the game because they didn’t have cockpit view and had slightly less detailed graphics. PD’s cockpits are amazing and I can understand the general disappointment since so many people have gotten used to that view (though not the fastest racers, as we’ve recently seen proof in the GT Academy trials). To me, if we get a bonnet view, the absence of cockpit won’t be so bad. They will handle like premium cars and have mechanical damage like premium cars. And the surroundings will be premium quality too, as we’ve seen proof in the videos. So what, we won’t be able to flash our lights…:)

The way I see it, every car done after GT4/GTHD will be a premium model; some of those are newer versions of cars that already were part of previous GT games (about a third of the prologue cars, for example) and more may surface, but to redo all of them would just take too much time and in some cases may not be worth it… Don’t most people really prefer newer and more recent cars? Should they have stopped doing new cars to work on the interior of the hundreds of skylines-evos-fairladies from their back catalogue?
Also, I’m pretty sure that by the time the game comes out the number of premium cars will be much higher than 200.

I think all new cars will be premium. So Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bugatti and Mc Laren will all be premium

I haven't seen better modelling in a game, of course the premium cars will be 100% mastur.. Yeah. Plus, there's a whole lot of other goodies in there! :)

Will it be worth the wait? That's the question I'm asking myself. Content-wise I'd be more then happy with just 200 cars in any given game and with the features that's been released the last couple of days? Heck yes. Give it to me! And yesterday I had second thoughts about purchasing it.

This.

The standard cars look pretty good, and I unless someone is hellbent on cockpit views, I really can't see any issues.

Where did you come up with this interesting tidbit of information? Does anyone still have GTHD on their PS3's? How many cars in FM3 look better than the models in GTHD? You think that PD would have 800+ cars look that much worse than the 200 premium cars? That in itself sounds stupid, because on the track you will immediately be able to see the difference and that would degrade the visual side of the game pretty quickly. Last I checked Kaz makes sure that the visuals look pretty close across the board. For the love of all that is holy, why any of you even assume that the standard cars will look crappy is beyond me, go figure. Soon we'll get more in depth interviews closer to launch, but I'm willing to bet that those premium cars may have 200K-300k more polys than the standard cars(mostly for interiors.

I'm happy with everything that's in the game so far. Only thing I'm not happy about is I don't have it in my hands yet :D

im still dissapointed with no interior views as its the main view i use and the sepearation of cars seems odd but if the 200 cars are of an appropriate selection ill get over it once i see the detail of them. i wont though if the 200 consists of 10 premiums nascars, 15 skylines, 10 like evos, or relatively similar cars. and as long as premiums are added after as dlc

Im glad you started this tread as i did not want to post this in some rat tread.

I look at it this way, We get 200 premium cars witch is more cars than any other racing game gets aside form Forza (that i can think of, not counting DLC) then we get another 800 cars that will look at least as good as Prologue that will still have headlights, dirt and damage. i would love to have the inside of the DMC DeLorean or Mercedes 300 SL modeled but if we don't get it wont bother me.

I played thru GT4 Twice to 100% and i don't think i have 200 cars in my garage or used 200 different cars in that game

I know what alot of people are posting about is more knee-jerk than what they would say if we have played the full game. weather it this car situation or something else in or not in the game i hope SONY make PD stick to the 11-02-2010 date for release. That is what i care about most of all cause im happy from what i have read and seen this past few days, i would not what everyone to bitch about the game to a point where they try to change something like may have happened with the damage shown last year at E3

Depends really on how many are repeats. 9 NASCAR is a bit to much. Could have made maybe two and seven different interiors too.

Will we get a bonnet cam though? The one showing the bonnet at the bottom of the screen.

Also 5 dlc cars on release must surely be premium. I'm happy to support the game via dlc.

Oh before I forget "forza".

Release the game in November so we can finally enjoy it. Then patch the game every week or 2 upgrading some of the existing cars to "premium". Its THE best option out there.

I just cant see him leaving only 20% of the cars finished after 5-6 years of development.

Well said 👍

I posted this elsewhere but it's relevant here.

I think what should be kept in perspective is that when PD implement anything they don’t have a “that’ll do” attitude and do it to the highest possible standard allowed by the hardware and storage medium. Assuming all the new or improved features in GT5 (Physics, AI, new “premium” cars, interior view, damage, hopefully all tracks, day/night & car lights lighting, dust/gravel/smoke, rollovers, online multiplayer, headtracking & 3D) have been realised to this standard then they will raise the bar for other games as has been the case with previous versions of Gran Turismo.

I’ll admit that the two-tier car issue is a bit of a let down for me but by the accounts of recent articles from the closed door demonstration the “standard” cars are still outstanding with the “premium” cars having an obsessive level of detail that will go unnoticed by the majority of players. PD has used their existing resources to create the 800 standard cars but this resource is far more detailed than what was in GT4 therefore the standard cars are not necessarily just upscaled GT4 models. Unfortunately it may be that they didn’t record the interiors in the past but as PD have told us the Blu-ray disc is virtually full so there may not have been space for the interiors anyway unless they were half-arsed efforts. If the alternative would be to only have 200 premium cars in GT5 or to have a PSP style black frame cockpit view for the 800 standard cars I’d rather they stick with what they’ve done.

I Think it will just depend on what the cars are as to if people are happy or not...

If there is one of each kind of thing.. i.e. one or two NASCARS, an Aston Martin, a couple of Lambos, a few Ferrari's, etc.. then people wont mind that much because theyll have 200 cars to choose from with full view and will only stray if they want the special tuned edition of the 96 skyline rather than the moddled 95 one.

On the other hand if the 200 is filled with 10 NASCARS, 15 Ferraris, The rally cars, 10 tuned sklines

Then while the no of cars is the same, the range is much more limited and so people will hate it more.

I personally am quite like this... I'll be happy having a range of cars that are prems.. I don't care if the exact Aston martin I want isn't a prem, I'll drive that and drive one of the others.. but if its a case of limited manafactures/types of car then it is a bit disappointing
