For comparison, these are standard cars:

Looks good enough IMO, in addition to the 200 premium cars it will be awesome!

Am I right in thinking we only get 20 tracks in the whole game, or is just 20 real tracks, with more fictional ones?

20 Locations. Maybe 60 tracks and variations. Some locations may have multiple tracks (not just multiple layouts of the same track).

I voted "no", because they should have ditched all those ****** K-Cars, <60hp cars and all the clones. Most people don't care about those anyway. That would have given them more time to make more premium cars. I'd rather have 4 or 500 cars that are the same great quality, then 1000 cars, of which 80% have no cockpit view and are useless for racing anyway.

I know this has been opined before by all and sundry but: Just because they're there, doesn't mean you've got to use them.

Besides, the old Kei cars are most likely to be among the 800 standard cars, whose interiors were not modelled during the making of GT3 and GT4.

Those 200 premium cars will likely be mostly classics, brand new models and current racing cars. The Kei cars, "crappy clones" and econoboxes that people complain about will largely be included in the "standard" group.

I'd rather have more content, period. 200 fully-modelled high-definition cockpits at PS3 quality and 800 cockpits in low-def (with high def exteriors)? That's more than any other game gives you.

It's not like we're stuck with 800 standard cars without cockpits forever. We'll just have to wait for GT6\PS4 :)

I guess GT6 will be the game we were hoping for...

It looks OK but its not in par with the Premium cars. Looking at the standard cars bugs me.

That's a releif, because I couldn't imagine them only working on 20 tracks in 5 years.

That looks like premium, but I'm willing to bet that standard models will equal the visual quality of the premiums, just with blacked out cockpits.

They definitely will not.
They used different methods to create shapes in gt4 as opposed to gt5. In GT5 each piece is made to look real from using polygons. With GT4 they used shaders or textures or something.

Where does it say that standard cars are just ported from GT4?

Right. With the premium models, the gaps between doors, the hood, trunk, etc will all be separated. In standard models, they just use a textured black line to show the gaps.

Anybody who has played GT4 should recognize the models immediately.

Right, I have played every GT, and yes they are all cars from GT4 however, im getting tires of people saying that they are just GT4 in HD resolution, for all we know PD must have also upscaled them to look near to the amount of detail as the premiums, I mean look at the stratos and the alpha in the standard cars video, they look 10x better than how they did in GT4

Well according to the videos and screenshots I have seen of the standard cars, there are no noticeable changes to the actual 3D models of the standard cars compared to the original GT4 models. The textures are nicer and they're being displayed at a higher resolution, with antialiasing turned on. The actual 3D models remain the same.

Are there any screenshots of the standard cars. If there are I'd really like to see what everyone its bitching and moaning about. If there isn't you should quit complaining till you actually see how "bad" the standard cars look.

Edit. nvr mind I found the video of it. Its not that bad people. Damn. Wait till gt6 if you hate it that much.

It says so on the gt site as well as some other articles. It says the standard cars are cars from previous gt games but updated with ps3 tech.

So you reckon they still have around 4000 polygons...? :/

I just hope they made enough premium models for each genre that it fills out the grid. My concern is that not happening. e.g. LMS, Nascar, muscle cars, etc. I would like to have a LeMans race with LMP and GT cars that are all premium.

Think about it. They only have 200 premium cars. We've already seen 140 of them. The 800 standard cars are from previous games. Chances of the new audi being in are slim. That is disappointing. It seems they didn't update to the most current models which IMO should've been at the top of the to do list.

I'm willing to bet that they added in some polygons to smooth out the rounded parts of the cars, but that's just a guess. All I know is that last night I turned on GT4, went into 1080i mode, and watched my B Spec driver do some laps and the GT4 models look incredibly identical to the ones being shown in the GT5 Standard video.

Take away the higher resolution textures and better graphics engine, and you have the same underlying 3D model.

This is a NASCAR, obviously... and it's been made clear so far that these are premiums.

Look in the windows above. The interior is light and clear.

And check out this Vette. More specifically, look at the interior.

muscle_car_009a.jpg

The top of the steering wheel is fairly visible in the Vette, but it's very dark, along with a blackened interior, in the very same lighting and background as the NASCAR.

If the Vette was premium as well, why is the interior very dark, and not as clearly visible as the NASCAR's? Surely they would have the same level of visibility in the very same lighting and background?

Of course, I cannot say until I play the game. But my guess, for now, is that the NASCAR above is an example of a premium model, whereas the Vette below is an example of a standard model.

Those screenshots of standard cars you have seen are from the 30odd sec video. I don't think they have released standard models pics ?

The thing that is bothering me the most about this whole ''standard'' car thing is that PD didn't even bother updating the car sounds. Not only are the graphics subpar, but the sounds are absolutely unacceptable. In the video showcasing the satndard cars, those muscle cars sound like hell. The Corvette C5R sounds like it has a 4 cyclinder engine. In reality, that thing sounds like a monster.

I just hope there is a way to ''turn off'' standard cars so I never have to see one or hear one if I don't want to. I can't imagine a race with half standard cars and half premium cars. It is a very, very bad decision in my opinion by PD to segregate the cars this way. They should have just left the standard cars out and made it like GT3 with limited cars, but the ones that were there were mainly desirable.

Why are you always negative and pessimist??damn!!!!!

Ehhhh, i think we got confo that all E3 models were Premium.
And that Vette is a new model, not a return one.

I wouldn't bet much. Standard cars are different. Standard are just upscaled models from GT4, not built from the ground up for GT5. This also explains why only premium can have detachable panels and such, because GT4 models weren't built with damage in mind.

We all need to remember that 200 premium cars is more than we had in GT3. And it wasn't exactly a bad game was it?

That's right! I remember thinking 200 cars was a lot when I played that game, and Playing for 3 half years straight I didn't even get to drive all of them.

For those worried about the standard cars, don't surprised when PD offers them as DLC packs. I can see it now "Nissan Premium Pack".

Why are you always negative and pessimist??damn!!!!!

Realistic? Because so far, all my pessimistic and negative views seem to have come true? Would you rather I went around telling everyone that standard cars will have cockpit view even though I have no proof or anything to hint they would?
Also maybe because if you look at the car list, the newest audi and bmw cars are 07 models. The audi posted before is I think the new 2010 model. Of course they might reveal some new EURO cars at the european game show since there are still 60 left to reveal. At this point though, it wouldn't be smart to get anyone's hopes up.
