Anyone else surprised the BMW E30 is on the top at the feedback section?

I like an M3 as much as the next guy. But people are wanting the 318, 325, all the versions of the E30 3 series cars and i just don't see the point. The E30 M3 80's model and 90's model would be enough.

I would actually prefer having the 'normal' E30, say, 318is, 325i, 325i Touring. But since that is never going to happen, I've put up a GTP Idea about the M3 E30, since it's likelier PD is going to model just this one. I've never driven an M3 E30 in my life, but I guess that's as close as it could get to having my IRL car in the game.

Luminis
Agreed. One M3 of each generation is sufficient, in my opinion. Maybe add stuff like the E46 CSL or E46 GTR, and that's about it.
The onl exception to this might be the models that have X-Drive as an option for non-M models.

That'd be fine with me. Alas, it sucks that you can't go gravel racing with an E92 M3, nor can you do turbo or supercharger updates.

P.S.: Whoa, up to over 1'600 votes already. Almost double the votes than the runner-up … this must be a dream. Pinch me.

I think some people are abusing that voting system, if you haven't noticed you can type in any screen name and email then you can vote. I think some people are making multiple screen names to vote on the car multiple times.

Since everybody is free to do so, I don't think it's much of an issue.
Somebody want to vote ten times for the E30? Fine, because people could vote ten times for any other car as well.

Unless, of course, the BMW guys are the only ones who thought of that possibility :sly:

Except that it kind of makes the meaning of the poll completely invalid and pointless. Anyway.. As long as everybody is aware of this, then we we can safely ignore the outcome of the votes from now on.

Gotta love the bimmer scene :) You can say what you want, but aside from some idiots (wich you find everywhere) they are some real entousiasts(spelling?).

Why? Because some people may have voted multiple times and other may have not done the same?

For all we know, the votes on thee E30 could very well be all legitimate votes by individual people, while all votes on the CCX might from a single person.
Besides, if there's enough enthusiasm for a car, so much that people go out of their way to exploit an inofficial poll, doesn't that kind of prove that it's a highly desired car?

First, it's the BMW communities distorting the poll, now it's the BMW fans voting multiple times...
You know... Maybe, just maybe it's true and the E30 is just that poplular, no matter how many conspiracy theories one comes up with to find another reason for the amount of votes it has

Unless, of course, you're implying that only BMW fans are capable of comming up with ideas like those mentioned above

I guess this summed it up perfectly:

👍 I'm more of a (vintage) JDM guy, but seriously, the BMW scene is pretty cool, from what I can tell (as I know a few guys who are part of it) ;)

Not one bit surprised. They have been successful in every form of motorsport there is, and they are still competitive. They're cheap, plentiful, and parts are easy to get. They look good slammed with a good set of wheels, and anyone who is into European cars respects them. If you've ever driven one, you know what ridiculous amount of fun they are in, even in stock form.

I can't believe Polyphony didn't put them in. That's what really surprises me. Even Turn 10 got that right in Forza :/

That, and an E36.

If you look in the forum feedback subforum, I think Jordan says that there is an IP filter in the voting system, so that if you try to vote multiple times, it will throw your votes out.

Of course, this doesn't preclude someone from voting from a new location, or using proxies, but I think most people won't realize that.

E30s were cheap, they are no longer cheap. People have realized how ridiculous of a deal they were, so they are now expensive as hell.

I love the M3 E30! I didn't know there was a voting for cars, now 3 more votes for the E30 :D

I think is just silly to think that people that don't play the game is coming here to vote for the BMW's, like other people said, the BMW M cars are great cars, i like them all

Just look at how this car moves … sweet memories. (forward to 1:30) Would love to have this 318is cup car in GT5: 140 horses, under 1'000 kg, short differential with 80% lock.

The group I raced with did a series with that car over a year ago. I hated that car to death. If I didn't see another BMW E30 in my life it would have been too soon, but this is when I really didn't have the basics and concept of racing and car dynamics understood. Bring back memories. I was good at some concepts but totally sucked (and really didn't have a clue) about others. I did a video of us in those cars nonetheless. lol Wanna see it? Well here it goes..

I tried Forza with a triple-screen-setup and a steering wheel and something was terribly wrong from my point of view. I felt absolutely disconnected from the car, no feel, nothing. Forza doesn't do the trick for me (and I'm no exclusive GT series fanboy, I enjoy lots of other Racing sims like LFS for example, even RACER though the physics are flawed). Sorry. No bashing intended, just my two pennies.

Back on topic:
I really don't know if there's gonna be an E30 in GT5, but I trust PD that they will get the headlamps right and skip horrifying bodykit options if they do.

Hey to each their own, if that was your feeling then that's what it is for you. Not everyone is going to experience the same thing. I felt the opposite of what you're feeling. Probably because GT5 does such a lackluster job using the Fanatec wheel's fully abilities. Even those in the group I race with feel on opposite ends of it. Thank god they make more than one game.

The real pic of the BMW looks more like the BMWs in my video than the pic you posted. I see the body mods you're talking about, but we weren't racing with that as is clearly evident in the video. Here's an old pic of my car in the race. Don't see all the stuff that you're talking about. Looks basically like the real thing. Might be hard to see with the custom livery I had but those with the lighter custom liveries in the video you can see didn't have all that stuff on it.

I was hoping the car would be in GT5 also to recreate that series, or just run a race or two with these cars as a "historic race". But alas it's not to be.

No offense.

What I'm talking about is the fact that
  1. the lamps are slightly too large (would take a little bit of work to prove that).
  2. in real life, the inner two lamps of the four are placed a bit more forward than than the outer ones. In Forza they are almost on the same 'plane'.

Alright, tried to prove my theory with a super-quick & super-dirty PSD job:
comparisonse.jpg

I know, the angle isn't 100% equal, but it's sufficient to see that the lamps look very different IRL.

Edit: I guess, IRL the grill is slanted forward, but not the lamps. In Forza they also slanted the lamps forward, i.e. made them elliptical?!

No offense taken. I thought you were talking about the aero kit in particular. Headlights DO look bit larger than real life. We'd have to see if it's that the case or is it just a reflection issue of something that is there in real life that doesn't quite look right in the game. Grill looks on point to me but I can look closer. Although the inner two headlights are a bit more forward it seems as if it's on a slant and not actually "put" in place forward so I see what you're saying there.

These games don't seem to get all the details 100 percent right. I think it's a time issue I guess. But for someone who loves the car in particular it can be an egregious error. I look at these premium cars and see errors and wonder how they miss that but I just got assume time is time. Fortunately for me none of the prem's I'm in love with. lol. Well not really fortunately for me since those are the only ones I'll drive :(

Hopefully in FM4 they'll give the cars a little makeover and correct those things. Doubt it though, got a feeling they'll just do a PD and port as is.

All in all it was a fun series racing with those BMW's. I still got mine. Better to have it and be off a little than not have it at all I guess. So I got to at least get a taste to race in a legend of racing. And from the cockpit no less. I didn't have my Fanatec though for that race.

Give an example, if you like.

Right off the top of my head I was taking some pics of the LFA and didn't have to go far to see the badge right on the front of the hood was jacked up. Stood out , I think I might have that pic uploaded if not I'll get it up for you tomorrow. I've seen other things also but it's really not the point. Point is you can find something wrong any and every where. It's whether you're looking for it or if it stands out to you. The badge stood out, had a low-res look to it. Wasn't looking for it, didn't really care. Also the digital dash wasn't identical to what I've been seeing in videos that people have been posting but it's close enough in both instances for me just as the BMW is close enough for me. I guess it comes down, personally for me, whether I enjoy a game or not. I don't go looking for things unless they really take away from the enjoyment of the game. Like not having the ability to have teams online. That's really a bummer for me and the group I race with as well as the lack of consistent smoothness online in-race with other cars around.

Not looking to get into any big thing here as it's getting us off topic. Which is the inclusion of this car in the game so I can continue to "enjoy" it as I enjoyed it so much in FM3, so much so I had to make a vid of it. Speaking of vid PD .....!!!! lol

Audi R8 5.2 with an engine that says 'V8'.

Mmmm … all right, maybe I'm not enough of a perfectionist. That wouldn't ruin it for me as long as the car has the correct performance and sounds like a V10.

t.o.

Had a look at some photomode shots. Doesn't look that bad to me.

Like a V10? Maybe. Like the R8 5.2 in real life? Nope.

It doesn't break the game for me, either (didn't do so in other games), but when people cite PD's precision in car modelling, stuff like this just pops up in my head.

E30 Non-M are cheap. And can be surprising fun to drive themselves. But they win no addiction for their power. 100% for their handling.

I didn't come from any BMW forum, but will say that 2 out of those 3 are serious enthusiast forums in regards to actual driving. Not the 'look at what my Dad bought me' crowd.

It would be nice to have my track rat in the game to dink around with but that's about it.

The 2.5l motors are torquey and the differential is desirable - chirping the tires into 3rd on a 20+ year old car is pretty cool. Stay away from the 'e' designated models.

An e30 with an M52 or S52 is brilliant tho.

Don't know why anyone would be surpised. On both the amatuer and professional level it's one of the most raced and most successfully raced single car models of all time and it's known for it's superb chassis and handling. The real question is how one of the great driver's cars of all time got left out of this game in favor of demios, imievs, prius' and 399 of the 400 R34 Skylines in the game.
