I used to always drive with ABS on 1, but then started slowly turning it off for older cars where it wasnt present.

But now I dont use it on any car and i really enjoy it, adds a bit of a challenge and its very rewarding.
Lets not forget that ABS in real life is nothing like in the game, you cant smash the brake to full strength and get away with anything.
I feel like ABS on 0 is quite close to real braking conditions, as in real life braking is one of the most important aspects of racing and in GT5 with ABS 1 it is simply taken for granted.

I was wondering what where other peoples thought on this and if they were experiencing a similar thing?

More or less since day one.
I would recommend to use a very low (0:0 actually) brake balance for older cars, the braking feels almost like GT Legends.

Nice, I kind of wish i had done the same, feels like ive missed out somehow.

I agree totally with you regarding abs in game is completely unrealistic. However I find having it off and trying to compete online is a challenge too far. Also I dont tend to play with the set ups too much apart from diff and suspension but I find even if I do play with brake set ups that the rear end still tries to overtake me under braking.

I personally love it, especially in free runs or online. Certainly gives me something to do with the "RA Menu", adjusting the bias on the fly whenever I try a new car. I've actually taken to running one bias setting on cold tyres and switching to another once they're warmed up in a race.

Funny what you can get used to, although I did start with GT5:P. I'm still not especially good at it, mind you; braking is my weak point anyway, and without ABS I'm either braking way too early to compensate for reduced trail braking ability or locking up and resorting to broadsiding into corners just to make it through. Good fun, though. :dopey:

I personally run bias settings around 4:2, depending on the car - I use the AP-Electrix load cell for the G25 for better braking consistency. The problem with the lower numbers is the relative lack of ratios available; already at 4:2 it's less than ideal. Keep in mind the whole cold tyres, thing - start on a mild bias and then see where you can push it to once up to temp. :)

By the way, I really wouldn't recommend having it off and racing online at the same time - someone's likely to be disappointed. :p

Awesome! Its great to finally notice cold tyres and i too generally run a 4:2 set up.
Same thing with elevation changes, you really do need to adjust quite a bit, adds so much depth to a game i thought i understood.

I usually use 4:2 or 3:2 on slower cars like a Mini, 3:1 on sportscars, you need to be careful with mid engined cars though, sometimes I even use 2:1 or 2:0 on them (especially Lamborghinis lol).

The 330/P4 feels incredible with 0:0 like I mentioned above, you can fully push the brake at higher speeds, but it will take a lot longer to stop. Gives the car that "old" feel.

EDIT: Driving with controller by the way.

Yup - I was only able to cope with it after getting the T500RS. I found the braking too difficult to manipulate with my G27 (or the DFGT) to be consistent - but I now have "eliminated" all the driver assists. I change the brake balance depending on the car, but for RWD I typically use - 4front2rear.
I feel that the braking distance is significantly reduced by disabling the ABS, I have made substantial gains on my fastest lap times in numerous cars - most race cars are pretty easy to control lockup once the tires are up to temperature, but I will say the road cars can be a bit more tricky to handle while braking into a corner. Still very fun and rewarding when done correctly :)

I do. It is a very "lovely" feeling that arose when you are Ferrari 512BB, 300 and something kph, in the end of any Monza straight. Feels like you gonna die ( wonders how is in real life ).

This has been a really useful thread, I am looking forward getting on and trying to play with some of the above set ups. Just for reference I use g25. Slightly off topic but please feel free to add me online as I could do with some fair clean friends to play with. P.S I dont get on that much but would really appreciate some good racing.

When I race online, it's always at 1 just so I can be competitive. I started trying to learn how to drive without it offline a little, but I can't seem to get the hang of it yet.

abs 1.
not enough feel/feedback or braking sound to properly modulate the brakes with my wheel setup.
Having said that, with abs 1, I find the cars brake hardest from speed at about 2/3rds pedal travel, then mashed for the last bit before turn in, then off the pedal easy to keep the car from lurching into the corner.

BTW, what is with some cars lurching forward having just let off the brake?

I you tried, but kept getting out of control after breaking. But from time to time, on older cars as you said, i do give it a go.

ABS 0 from day 1 for me as well. I enjoy the challenge. Also I find it easier to trail brake into corners with ABS 0 because you get a much better idea of where the limit is and how far you need to come back from it to get the balance right.

I run a brake balance of 5:2 for almost every street car, upping it to 5:3 for the stiffer racing machines.

ABS off from day one too, never considered otherwise. It's much more fun. As I learned how it works, I've tended to push the bias higher than most it seems. It feels like I can stop quicker as long as I don't overdo it with the brakes set to 7 or 8, but it can make trail braking and undulating roads fairly tricky, particularly on sport or comfort tires so you.

It's unfortunate that you can't disallow ABS online, not being 'elitist' or anything, just seems silly that you can disallow all aids except one.

I do on my Fiat 500 and my '69 Camaro RM. Very returning to drive these without any aids...

"adds a bit of a challenge and its very rewarding"

I totally agree. I've been playing with ABS off for quite a while now and it makes the game so much more engaging and challenging.

If someone starts a "No Aids" online league/series where all participants must set ABS off (and all other aids), use a manual transmission, and racing hard or less ... count me in !

Weird thing is I learned to play forza with no abs, but i havent been able to learn to use abs 0 in this game

I was starting to use it. And it is fun with the older cars.

But now I am back to 1, since I use a DS3. With pedals I would set it to 0, but when driving a real car you never lock the wheels up unless you want to. Real brakes are not on/off.

I use 0 abs if I can adjust the brake balance in the chosen car. For online where I mostly use the offered cars I leave it to 1 since you can't adjust those cars. I don't really like the corner entry snap oversteer in some cars but the braking is a bit more challenging without abs so I like it that way.

im not at the point yet to get rid of ABS completely. I did however increase the strength needed for the ABS to come into effect on the pedals.
This way i get some pretty cool feedback (brake pedal needs suddenly more force to enable ABS) and still have the ability to brake with ABS if i overdid it...

kudos to everyone that uses abs0. I have been wanting to try it out but got no patients and quicky go back to abs1. I guess i got to give it a honest chance and just got for it. As everyone already posted on here that abs1 is very unrealistick. This is the last thing i need to master in this game, after golding everything and geting platinum last week i need something to make this game fun again.

I wish I hadnt tried the Lotus with abs 0 as it just put me into the wall on the first turn everytime. Ive been trying to use other cars now. Aslong as you adjust the brake balance from 5/5 standard to something that fits the car, you should be alright.

Try slowly lifting off the brakes as you turn in, it allows the car to rebalance as you're suddenly asking more of the rear tyres.

I had a go online last night and it wasnt bad, even braking softly gave a competitive braking distance...

I do get a huge thrill driving with no ABS. Of course, the same can't be said about the poor (soon to be wiped out out :P ) suckers who end up having to look and go through my lovely rubbery cloud, muarhahaha.
