Had a fast first sector. :D

splits:

T1 0'17.290
T2 0'36.445

Yep, that's basically all I expected and/or wanted. 👍 I understand completely, and I probably will run the rest and post here, if only as a "guest", that is, as not actually part of the competition. Thanks for letting me race. :D Have fun, all!

Thanks for understanding. My post was as much for the benefit of the other racers as it was for you. Glad you like the combo and series. 👍

Nice ones. Putting you on the board now.

I have an update also -

17.842
36.902

Have seen 36.6XX at T2, but it had a crappy last sector, so this is my fast lap, for now. Picked up 0.4 at the line vs. the test lap. Going back for more. :D

and your avatar, gave me an idea. A GT Legends theme of races in GT4 :). on sport tires of course

Glad you noticed. It's actually a live picture taken 3 weeks ago at the Monterey Historic Races, Laguna Seca. These were the Trans Am series (Original) cars. '68 Camaro in the lead and '70 Challenger in close chase. The Challenger was the eventual race winner. 👍 Wish they had those actual race cars in GT, not just the original stock versions. :grumpy:

A 17.2??? What the-? I must be really out of practice. So on my lap I went wide after T1 beyond the rumbles, no wall or anything. Should I ask for my splits to be removed, just want to clarify as I've seen good ol' #20 go wide there in real life :P Yee Haw!

You are good. 👍 Info copied from the instructions above. :sly: \/

Special Instructions

We will be observing NASCAR line rules this week, meaning, there are no line rules. (As Shown below) :dopey: All Hard surfaces are track, just keep at least 2 wheels on (or vertically in line with) the track and stay off the walls.

Well you beat me in the WRS at T1 by a lot on this course not that long ago so I figure you can get that T1 pretty easy if you keep trying this.

Seen as low as 17.210 and probably 17.0xx is there, and I figure 35.4 at least at T2, but I don't have time to race anymore this week.

I think playing that S13 over and over with a AudiR8 helped me a lot for T1 with racecars though.

A little improvement...using my Jr. red/white :)
T1 - 17.676
T2 - 36.825

17.2's? where are you guys finding the front end grip to pull that off?

maybe its my short gearing

Amen to that, I kept chasing your time buddy but when I was like (I don't recall exactly) 3/4 seconds under the gold I topped out, but that is one of my favorite tests 👍

But this car does something funny at the first hill as you exit and I have to ensure the tires are straight before I punch it and I tend to exit wide :/ Maybe that is what I need to iron out, eh?

Jerome

Well I'm not sure what the car is doing at the first hill for you, at first I had 2 brake points for that section before the hill, but then was able to get the car to turn enough so that I had 1 long brake point and can just push it full speed in 3rd gear no problem. Just have to brake early enough to do it. This car seems like crap in 2nd gear so I wouldn't suggest using it if you are.

No I lowered the gear ratio to even do 3rd for the final hairpin, you just can't do anything in second and sometimes I make the car have wheelspin in 3rd between T1 and T2. Got some work to do tonight and may attempt it later if I have time :sly:

Jerome

I was also double braking for the first turn, will have to change my approach. I was using 300 gearing, tried the 280 and I was not smooth with it. Too much testing of all the cars, then power and tires on the Camaro with the 300 gearing to eliminate variables.

Might be the weekend before I get another run in, though.

Not a lot of talk on gearing... I wonder what is best here. I have been all over the map. First ran one click up from default then ran these current splits at 280.

17.955 / 36.884
17.971 / 36.828
17.822 / 36.690
17.667 / 36.549 (270)

Think I used 290, but I only tried a couple higher ones so not sure if it's the best.

it seems like wider gears are the way to go here. im getting alot of tire spin with close ratios.

P.S. second gear sucks here except at the final hairpin

I'm relatively sure below 300 is the way to go. I'm using 280 and am much slower with a 5-gear setup. 270 works okay but the tires spin too easily at the hairpin for my taste. (Yes, I'm using 3rd for all the slow corners - second definitely is useless.) By the way, I'm trying to do the turn after T1 by mostly avoiding the inside curb and hopping straight over the outer one (trying to avoid the wall :dunce:). You'll get wheelspin, but it's easy to fix. And I'm using all the extra space before the next turn, on the outside, to widen it out some. Any thoughts on these lines?

jmgyro, I honestly can't see a 17.0xx T1 you say might be possible, but then again I'm slower than you and braking twice for the first corner :dopey:. How on earth do you make the left kink without braking so early as to be slower than double braking? I just run too wide to take the right turn properly whenever I try. I agree, though, that a 35.4 T2 would be possible with such a fast T1.

I want to see Zikwik and his probable 35.0 or so T2! It amazes me what the really fast guys can do with a combo that seems maxed.

I found good success with 270 even with the final hairpin I just have to give it about 9/10 throttle for a split second until the rpm's get into the mid range and then straighten the car out and floor it. I find I have more top speed for the first section of the lap as well.

Thanks for the info, I just ran 270 for the first time and saw my ghost in the mirror! 👍

Me too!!!
Been running for a couple of hours tonight, and struggling to keep a clean lap together despite many good first or second splits. Switched to 270 gearing and within 15 minutes had shave 0.5s off at the line. Sadly my T2 split was 0.8s quicker than previously, but I lost a little time in the last sector being overcautious. :grumpy:

T1 17.466
T2 36.081

Still about 0.3s off where I'd like to be laptime-wise, but I've got some awesome (well for me anyway :O) splits to chase!

Had to run the green & white car, it's my hometown football team colours! :trouble:
Don't worry. They suck too. :(

Last night's run was bitter-sweet. End up with mildly quicker splits and .6 better @ the line.

18.096
37.699

Part that sucks is that on the lap where I saw a 37.0xx T2, I couldn't keep it out of the grass on the right-hander after turn 8 :dunce:

Had to bring the session to a close, so I couldn't chase after it again. Hopefully I will be able to see that number again on my next run!

I like the wheelspin I get with no TCS but it makes my laps slower, so it's on all the time. No faster splits tho my laptime dropped by .3 due to getting thru the final righthander quicker.

Nice racing combo Kevin! 👍

I had the same trouble on a few laps. Turns out my fastest lap is right on the edge on turn 10! My two right side tires are fully on the pavement, but I had to check the replay 5 times due to my OCD :sly: It's definitely clean... I just hope I have time to go faster this week... That turn has got to be one of the hardest....

Okay so I really have to stop playing GT5P, its screwing me up here in GT4, lol. Great splits Nick! Good to hear the 270 is coming in handy, I tried 260 but she won't make it up the hill without 'hiccuping'. I will hopefully have more time tonight after I do some more 'work'.

Well I don't think there's any tricks to not double brake on the first turn, I had been double braking for my entire first session because I didn't think that this car would let me. I suppose I just went on far enough right so that I had enough road to keep turning left before the hill.

As for 17.0xx, you can get a very quick T1 if you are going very quick up to the turn before T1 and then put your left tire in the lowest point of the rumble strip and your right part of your car through the grass. You can maintain a ton of speed through that turn, but the chance for success is low, for me at least. Sometimes your car will hop off the course if you miss only slightly.

I really hate doing it because I tend to ruin a lot of good runs, and then the next time I'm behind my ghost at the first hill so I'd rather just get a decent T1 then work on the rest. It's a little easier to do in cars that tend to oversteer as well.

Ahhh... I see what I was doing wrong. I've been avoiding the rumble strip completely because it makes the wheels spin and I can't accelerate as fast out. I had not even thought of using the grass there - I've never tried it in any car, as far as I know. Thanks for the advice. 👍 I'll have to give it a try, even if the success rate is low.

I'm having a go at this now, shame I missed the warm-up race. 280 gearing is good, because you won't use first or second gears. And WTF is with the car's default gearing?? :odd:

2nd Run

T1 18.378
T2 38.244

Lost .034 in T2, but had a faster lap :odd:

You're going to find that all of these cars in the series need to be geared down. They have similar gearing to the DTM (German Touring) cars when stock. The stock gearing still still works OK when it cannot be altered in LAN events, etc., you just never use 6th. While testing for the series, I drove all 4 cars on all 4 tracks, with multiple compounds. But I geared down to a drivable gear range that would allow for reasonable use of all gears in all of the cars, to understand which cars reacted the best with which tracks. I just hope you guys agree. :D

Let's just say Nascar and I can't seem to get along (but yea good pic), but a buddy of mine really is. I'm more of a F1/WTCC/Rally kind of guy.
