Always thought concussion IQ loss was around 10 points or less... not four times as much!

-

I wonder how much of it I lost when my head got split open by that pipe in College...

According to my doctor, 10-15 points is what the average concussion can cause. However my cause was severe enough to clearly cause more according to the results of several 6 hour long sessions of IQ testing. It short, it was quite the ordeal. I was knocked clean out when it happened, it was result of a full sprint head on head collision during a game of American football (when I still played). Apparently, according to witnesses, my feet went up in there air and I was out cold on the field. I remember waking up and just laying their thinking WTF is going on, then I saw the medic staff and the coach all around me, eventually they got my gear off and grabbed my legs and arms and carried me off the field (I remember everyone clapping), in which I sat hunched over on the bench until the ambulance arrived, then they put my on a stretcher. Once I got in the dude asked me a bunch of questions but at this point everything was a blur and I was pretty in and out of it. And of all things it happened on the night of one my uncles wedding. October 12, 2008. It was a Saturday afternoon. Not a good day at all.

From that point on they ran random check up/follow up tests throughout the past few years. I was issued a "504 Plan" which basically just gave me extra help in school, I got extended time during tests, sometimes up to 4 hours or more, tests were given to me in peices, they were read to me if I needed it, extra periods called "AIS", basically was like extra help, a guided study hall kind of thing, that kind of thing. Some of the random tests had me check for hand strength, one of them I remember pretty clearly was on a computer, they were showing a bunch of letters and each time one appeared I was required to press the space bar. If the letter "x" appeared, I couldn't hit the space bar like rest....I failed that pretty badly when before it wouldn't have been an issue. Another one was identifying basic objects with index cards and stupid stuff like that. I was stuck there on several occassions performaing various task such as these during this rehabilitation period. Was sooooo annoying haha.

At this point my school had no idea what to do with me anymore so that's when I started attending full day courses in the alternative school and started Auto Tech. Best decision I ever made in my life. A lot more laid back, easier, and the potential to make more money from my trade is there. In fact if I hadn't gone, I would have failed 10th grade, repeated and likely dropped out as a sophomore, and I'd be a bum on the street right now living on drugs with no life going anywhere. My life was headed in the worst possible direction. I made the choice to go there and God I am glad I did. Needless to say the school pays $16,000 a year for me to go their now. Couldn't be happier with that choice. At the time, I hated myself and the fact I had to leave everyone and all my friends behind but now I can rub it in their face and be like i'm going to mka emore money than you

I will say though it was very hectic and the doctor that delt with me said she had never really seen one that affected anyone so badly. I remeber overhearing her and the other guy that worked with her as well say my change in attitude was drastic, I went from a straight A student to having less than a 50 in everything, not caring, attention span was completely destroyed, I was in shambles. I couldn't do my homework because I would literally forget everything that had been taught to me that day at school, I would have severe mental breakdowns over nothing, etc. Things have lightened up a bit over the last year or so but up until then my life has been a nightmare, as far s this condition. They said the damage was most likely permanent, I think it was called PCS or something like that, post concussion syndrome or something, can't remember. But my doctor straight up told me if it happens again I WILL die.

I beleive it may have also called another condition in my neck called "torticollis", a stupid crazy excrutiating pain that shoots down your nerves in your spine if you tilt your head the wrong way, causing you to kind of lean to one side. Think the whiplash effect form the injury itself my have had some kind of impact. Not fun.

Sorry for the huge long post, Iit's just something that really affected my life and I tend to drag it on and on. Really pains me to think about it these days. So yeah when someone asks if I am messed up in the head or adds any smart remark that's similar, I get really, really offended.

I had a concussion 5 years ago. Bike's front wheel decided to go its own way while I was looking at the trees on the side of the road... Then the pavement rised and hit me in the face. I was lucky it wasn't a bad case. I spent 5 days in the hospital and didn't have to come back there ever after. Don't know how it affected my psychicall abilities, I believe they remained pretty much the same. Some time after that I gave up web php programming (I was damn good at that as a 14 year old), I have never related the two but even if the trauma didn't directly affect my psychical abilities, it probably did change my view of some things.

Slow? Perhaps. Idiots, without a doubt. :sly: But no different from anywhere else in the world.

And average is still kind of slow.

I think we need to install some sort of sound or something to dissuade GT subform users from posting in here about GT stuff.

Nothing really needs to be done. And I don't think people are stupid, it just that "stupid" people need to learn to read the fine print. Because it clearly says "Off-topic / The Rumble Strip" at the top of the screen, meaning that subforum is clearly for talking about things that are in no way, shape or form related to GT5 or any other Gran Turismo game.

Wait are people surprised that there are some idiots here, this is the internet for ducks sake! This is where idiots origin from!

Famine
Half the population are below average intelligence.

You've never been to Boca Raton...everyone's above average, and above everyone and everything else.

I've always thought that Famine seemed abit slow. ;)

It was a touch of sarcasm for the sake of humor. :indiff:

And if you don't think people are stupid, please go outside and interact with the world. Or even on the internet. The abundance of stupid people is profound.

Perhaps the problem is that they are too fast. They don't think before posting.

Not to say there aren't any idiots of course.

Ah, but the internet is also an ivory tower of sorts; if we never admit to our faults, and only extol our achievements, then we always look a lot smarter than everyone else. We almost all indulge in dumbassery, douchebagery, debauchery, doofus-erry, and other bits of tedium that occasionally causes us to fly on autopilot by an inexplicable set of illogical and conflicting algorithms.

Derp is only a letter away from Deep, after all.

God loves stupid people. That's why he made so many of them.

GT talk in the Rumble Strip? Isn't that what the GT5 Subforum is for? Well instead of spamming, might as well contribute.

People are stupid, that's why. <- Contributed.

No member is slow when they're driving the masterpiece that is the 2.2 Camry.

How would one go about doing an IQ test?

We can do online test now, there are plenty of them, not sure about the result accuracy or standards they use.

I did it twice, both are official school conducted IQ tests, and the results were given in a sealed envelope, 128 when I was in junior high, then 142 when I was in college ( paper + computer based test ). That was 12 years ago ... Am I a genius .... I don't think so, but I always love to read and learn.

When I was at the doctors they performed it their. I'd ask next time you go.

As pointed out "there" do I get extra IQ points?

Haven't been doctors in ages.

Also every online one I've seen finished with "Now type in your mobile phone number and we'll text you the results" :dunce:

Well I'm sorry for not picking up on your sarcasm. It's easier to detect in real life than it is reading a block of text. And yes, I do think people are stupid, but that doesn't mean everyone's stupid. But I will say that there does seem to be more stupid people around these days.

To answer the OP's original question: "Are some members, you know.... slow?"
My answer is Yes, but i can only speak for myself. :D
I must say that i'm not that mentally sharp, but i do really enjoy reading the posts of some of GTP's smarter members (even if sometimes i struggle to understand them). I have toyed with the idea of taking an IQ test before, but everyone of them seems to require money to do so... and i'm not about to hand over money to find out how dumb i am, (hmm, maybe that is a smart thing afterall).

You just raised your Intelligence Quality value by 2 points just by making that decision :sly: .
