I'm not too good, but I'm getting noticeably better the more I play ^_^ I keep trying to turn stuff off to get better, but use a few driving aids when I just want to beat a race to move onto the next one. I'm using the DS3 controller for everything and don't really know how to drive all that well IRL (never owned a car, I drive maybe 4-5 times a year).

I use the driving line about 50% of the time. I have the anti-skid on, ABS at 1, traction control at 2, automatic transmission and usually use a car way overpowered for the race I'm in (yay lapping hot hatchbacks in a Veyron). I've tried putting the auto-steer thing on and the other driving aid (forget what it is), but thought it slowed me down too much. Maybe I'll turn the anti-skid off when I get a little better.

I have gold in the karting and NASCAR challenges (karting took forever -.-) and Bronze in the Nurbergring special events. I always come short of silver by like a second. Gold in the first top gear challenge, and haven't done any other special events yet. I got my B license and gave up after that. The licenses frustrate me, but I have 6 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze for the B license and I haven't bothered getting anything higher. Licenses are frustrating, and I don't see the point in doing them other than getting XP and free cars. Maybe if they unlocked extra races or special events I'd sit down and do them.

With a ~1200BHP Veyron on manual with every driving aid off, I was able to get 1:15.83 around the Top Gear Test Track after like 20 tries (if the time went red, I didn't count it).

Currently rank 19, almost 20. My housemates and I are sharing my ps3, so there's 4 of us putting time into it. We're all about the same level of skill though, when we do a time-trial we tend to all get within a second of each other.
 
I would say I'm on the plus side of average with a pad and on the average side of average with a wheel, in that, compared to other wheel users I am average.

I've done everything with no aids but ABS at 1. A notable exception being the Elise Top Gear Challenge. Trail braking an MR car with comfart hard tires, and a pad? Ugh. Couldn't do it. Turned on traction control and remapped the controller so I could do a little "left foot braking" and managed a 2nd place finish...mostly by cutting Chicago and forcing myself in front of the others at Hammerhead.

I have at least Silver in the license tests though I've only gone through I-C.
 
All things aside -

On a scale from 1 to 47 where 1 is my mom and 47 is Richard Hammond shouting "I AM A DRIVING GOD" - I'm probably around 5 or 6.

I haven't played in ages - so the 10-14 hours I got to put in since getting the game on friday.. Well...

With a G27, no aids, I suck massively - but it's fine - I enjoy the game!.
 
I'm nothing to write home about. I use TCS 1 and ABS 1, everything else turned off, just because I'm stuck using a DS3 right now. If there was an option for launch control, I'd turn that on and turn TCS off, as standing starts are all I use it for. I feel like I'm more consistent than I am fast, so I'm better at racing than time trials. I'm not great at either, though.

Like some of the other people in the thread, I have real racing experience, and I think I'm much more competitive as a real driver than a virtual one. Physical feedback, especially the stuff you feel though the seat and floor and g-forces, are too critical to my driving for my skills to directly transfer to GT. A little bit does, but I still can't ever help feeling like I'm driving blindfolded when playing sims.
 
I have a strange problem with the driving physics.

I have a tuned lambo lp 670 with 700+ horsepower and slicks.

In singeplayer mode (arcade or gt life) with all aids off, i can take the corner on the daytona superspeedway with full trottle at 320km/h or more.

Online its impossible, my car oversteers horribly and i lose controle.

Is this game using different driving physics for online and offline?

btw. im driving with logitech dfp and im lvl. 16 in gt life.

I would say that I'm just okay, possibly better than average. I recently tried using the G25 for the first time and it took some getting used too, I lost Sunday Cup with a Mclaren F1... :drool:

I have betting getting better though and I think I should be good in a week or so more, anyway here is some statistics of my game.

I don't use any aids besides ABS, which is on 1, and Traction control which is on 2 at the moment. I will probably turn it off next time though. I done any license tests but I have done all the AMG Beginner tests and got Silver in each test first time.

There it is, you make the decision. :)
 
That's for me :

-how many bronzes, silver, or gold trophies do you have on special events : Have all gold in this events : Karting Experience (all), Nascar School (all), AMG Driving School (I still have to try the last on wet with the SLS), Grand Tour (all events), The first rally event.
-how many bronzes, silver, or gold trophies do you have on licenses : All gold, I found S license pretty easy, the hardest was IC that took me 2 hours to gold all the stages
-how many attempts did it take you to _____ (insert some sort of event in blank) 75% of the licenses took me 2-3 tries to get gold, the event that I've found the hardest was the first in Grand Tour with the Alfa... I spent at least 2 hours to find a way to hit that damn 1:17:00 lol

Anyway, I use a DFGT bought something like 3 months ago, I've practiced a little with GT5p and never returned to de DS3. I never tried Online, because I want to buy first some cars that I want in offline mode. I love the Nordschleife, spent a lot of hours in GT4 on that track, but with GT5 I can drive on it with a Wheel, that's fantastic...
 
I have noticed that driving online is harder than in any other mode as well. Anyone have any explantions?
 
Isn't this what WRS is for? If you think you're good, join up, and chances are you'll realize you aren't. Trust me! ;)
 
Im probably average/below average not sure. I drive with the DFGT.I try and drive with all aids off but sometimes like with rhe SLS nurburgring challenge I need to put mild active steering on or skid recovery force and driving the Elise I find impossible! I got All silvers, few golds on all licenses up to IC but after that mainly bronze. Some cars like the Evo I can handle pretty well but others like my new 670SV I just bought, I cant really :crazy:

-how many bronzes, silver, or gold trophies do you have on licenses Minimum silver on everything with a sprinkling of gold. I'm finding it much harder to get gold in the GT5 license tests for some reason.

I'm probably average or a tiny bit above. Been playing GT since the beginning, cycling through all kinds of wheels (currently using the GT4 Driving Force Pro).

My proudest moments were finally getting Driving Mission 34 in GT4 and placing in the low 400's in the GT5 Time Trial game (unmodified car).
 
I have all golds on the NB licenses, on the NA and IC, I have 1 gold and 9 silvers each. I haven't gotten around to doing the other three yet.

I don't generally use any assists except for ABS and TC, depending on the car. I generally don't use driving lines, but on La Sarthe and the Nordschleife, I really have to if I want to go fast. It'll take me a while to learn them probably.

For shifting, I always use manual. I'll use the paddle shifters or the clutch/H-shifter on my Fanatec, again depending on what car I'm in. Generally, I find it difficult to use the clutch for faster cars, but for slower cars I almost always use it.

I don't have good enough connection to have even finished a race online yet.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I think I'd rank around a 7. Unfortunately I just don't really know yet, as I have yet to finish any online races and really find out.
 
Im not too good but eh. First thing i did in GT5 was turn off the driving line, i did not want to get too Dependant on it like my other games >>

all golds in A spec races. Silvers in AMG races (no driving line) ...the rest of the special races are silver/gold ( Dident even bother with the Top gear challenge :yuck:)
 
On a scale of 1-10 I'd say I'm about a 7-8.

I've been playing GT since the first release in '97. Got more serious since I starting getting into F1 since I understood the car more.

I've got the iB licence all gold. As well as all gold for the previous ones. Will be working on all gold for iA tomorrow.

Most events are gold. Just the night event in the Lambo on Toscana. Need to learn the track more.

I always have ABS on 1. TC depends on car. I like the car to slide a little but not too much. I don't want to be worrying about hitting the throttle and the car spinning out. Normally I have TC off but if the car's quite tail happy I'll turn it on. If I don't know the track well I'll normally have the driving line on but once I learn it I drive with it off. I always use manual gears.

I drive cleanly and rarely spin off and can usually lap the Nurburgring (on GT4, not unlocked it on 5 yet) with no spins or crashes.

My weakness is speed though. I'm not always the fastest perhaps due to being too careful. I put in good laps and I feel I can beat most players but there are people who can lap a couple of seconds quicker than me. On GT5p I could usually easily get into the top 500 ranking with any car on any track.

Also I've been playing with a sixaxis. Hoping to get a new monitor for the office so I can clamp my wheel (DFP) on the desk then rather than sitting in front of the downstairs TV. I feel as if I'm a 7 with the sixaxis but could be an 8 with the wheel.

I do much better in real life, as I own a Corvette and do regular track days during the spring and summer months. No matter how good the video game is, there is always something missing when you have no Gs effecting your body during acceleration, braking, and turning.
In GT 5 so far:
Licenses - I got bronze the first time on 95% of the tests on the first try. I have a few silver and a few gold, but I have never taken a license test more than once. I just find them boring and see no real benefit in trying to gold them all just for some small bonus like a new car.
Special Events - The only one I have done was the karts. Quite easy, won each of them the first time.
Cups - Finished 1st or 2nd on 90% of the race in Amateur and Beginner (as far as I have gone so far). I do take the time before each cup to see what the competitors cars are going to be, and purchasing an appropriately powerful car and upgrading it, so in Cups I would say it's about 50% driver skill and 50% tuning advantage (but that's racing, right?).
I play with a G25.
I never use the driving line, as I find it too distracting.
I use ABS set to 1 and a low level TC for the aids.
Among my friends, I am far and away the best.
Among the whole world of GT5 racers, I'm probably around the 75th percentile.
There are plenty of people online that simply amaze me with their driving skill.
I'm 37 years old and have been playing racing games (my favorite genre) since the Atari 2600 days!

Nothing else is on.
Racing medium tires.
I would say it is completely stock. Just tweaked to my style.
But I use a white Lambo LP670-4 SV
Stock power
Stock weight
Bigger rear wing (description describes an "aero wing pack" so i would say it is legit)
centre diff set to 60-40 instead of 70-30
And that's it, other than them 2 things and the tires. Its stock.

6.55.83 around nurburgring with (what I think is) a massively tuned GT-R battling all the way. (I have the replay "exported" whatever that means and it is on my phone (crap recording) so I could back it up :P)

constantly 1st or 2nd on nurb if the car's are equal in ability or even a bit better. 1st very consistently if the cars are equal. I have been beating GT500 cars recently around nurb in my lambo. Almost always win when a server decides to have a nice race with no wreckers.

I also never intend to hit anyone unless it is completely accidental.
The race before the 6.55 on the nurb. i was stationary for 13 seconds at the start line due to someone having major trouble getting off the line.
Came second in that race behind the guy in the Massivly Tuned GT-R only about 5 seconds though :)

My old Supra (looks like old RX-7) rules !

So when my lambo is in my safe hands I would say I'm pretty quick.

With my years of PC Sim racing aswell I would rank myself relatively highly.
Only half second-ish off world record on AS3 in FX2 on LFS... 1.48.13 ftw

Event wise and licences wise
I'v been settling for silver (get it straight away in most cases)
But usually get about 1 gold to 3 silvers in ratio
So I can move further into the game quicker.

I think I'm a normal player

For the aids I just use ABS 1

No driving line except in the night races since I cant see anything!

I've finished the kart and nascar events all in gold and bronze and silver in the AMG event

I've just finished the 1st license test in all gold and the all silver for the 2nd license test

Haven't done much racing online
 
I use ps3 controller so for me it requires a high level of concentration and fingering to actually race good... for one lap.. cause then I get tired... so conclusion is I suck..
 
No aids at all but i'll I might turn on ABS for high powered RWD monsters i.e. Enzo cuz i will sometimes crash... badly, i have a heavy right thumb lmao

I lapped the Ring literally hundreds of times in GT4 so i know the track like the back of my hand I just need to get used to the new physics

I'm too lazy to get golds on the liscenes so if I pass it, I'll just continue on lol

I use a controller and i love it lmao

NEVER uses racing lines lol!

Haven't raced online...yet lmao so I will se how that goes
 
I'm pretty well above-average, but nowhere near the best on this site.

I drive with ABS on 1 and everything else off no matter what car I'm in.

Driving line isn't even considered, it's the first thing I turned off. It's useless anyway as it tells you to brake way too early and often.

Right now I think my total trophies are ~32 golds, ~25 silvers, and 0 bronzes. I blew through the licenses making sure I got at least silver but only got gold on the easy ones, and now I'm working on the Super license (5 golds so far, haven't tried the other 5 yet).

With enough time I can usually gold everything (I had 100% completion on GT4, it just took a while), but right now I'm settling for silver until I get farther along in the game.

Online I haven't even tried really yet, there's too much left to do in the game. This one will take me a while because I'm married and have a kid on the way, so I don't have nearly as much time to play as I did when I was in college.
 
I Wouldnt say im a bad driver. I particularly didnt care for the license tests but i did decide to gold the S license. Im working on all golds for special events. Ive completed the karting, Nascar, and both of the rally challenges. I find the 111r top gear challenge impossible.
 
6.5 on a scale of 1-10.

I drive with ABS at 1 and TCS varying, depending on the car (off for slow ones, 1 for lots of power and not great handling, sometimes 2 for full-out racers). Manual transmission on a DFGT. 20-ish golded licenses, the rest (bar 2) are silver.

I go for at least silver on anything I attempt, and if I get close to the gold, then I'll go for it. Golded all but one section of the wet Nurb (but got the whole lap gold, oddly).
 
I think I'm decent enough, Waiting for WRS to really find out though.
 
I would consider myself a 'Silver driver' generally inbetween silver and gold times on a lot of licenses and challenges. A few golds but Silver is usually the one I can easily achieve. All on the DS3

Silvered the first three AMG events

I don't think I suck, but...there are certainly some LT's that got the best of me.

I can't give a number (too lazy to check), but the first 3 licenses are all gold and sliver...mostly silver.

ABS =1
I use the DL. (Well, use is a subjective term....I have it on...not that I necessarily follow it)

If I am close to a trophy, I'll normally keep trying to get the score better until I get the next level. At some point, you have to say time to move on until later. I especially hate it when I am .0XX from a better trophy....those I'll keep going until my score gets worse or I get tired of doing it (normally, 3 or 4 more trys).

There is actually one license test I keep missing by .0XX for the gold and it's really pissing me off...but...got to let it go when it's more frustrating than fun.

I think im above average after reading most posts.

i like to challenge myself on every game i play.

I dont use any aids except for ABS on 1. I used to use the driving line when i first started but not anymore. I get bored when i dont use manual so i always have that chosen.

Liscenses i always get a silver within 2-3 tries, gold if i get lucky but i usually can achieve a gold within 10-12 tries. The only special event where i cannot get gold is the damn top gear test track, i have completely giving up on that event.

Being a car guy in RL and driving my 91 supra around cone tracks in nashville super speedway has helped me understand the physics of racing and finding the best race lines in this game.

i believe online cars are all stock same with basic arcade mode cars, but thats just my assumption

I realize the stuff below is not the most straightforward way to go and that this will at some moments make things more complicated than strictly necessary. Added to that, I can drive a reasonable race, but I'm nothing close to an alien. I consider it an extra challenge for now, one I shall tackle with a fully-on approach. If I'm overshooting my capabilities too much, time will tell and only then and no sooner we'll see to it. My progress can be followed over here : >>> progress overview <<< and will be updated on a regular basis.

To the TS, good one on the number of tries, I'll see if I can remember those and update the stats yet keep them readable 👍

Display:
- cockpit view for premiums, bumper cam for standard models
- no track map
- metrics in km


Driving options:
- default: all aids OFF (don't forget the TC that keeps returning to 5), ABS = 1
- all aids OFF, ABS = Off for car's without ABS


Steering options
- Logitech G27
- use clutch, details see below @Shifting method
- steering setting type = simulation
- power assisted steering = off
- feedback strength = 10


Shifting method:
- fully automatic cars: use the Automatic Transmission option from GT5

- conventional cars with clutch and no more than 6 forward gears: MT, use my G27's clutch and H-shifter

- cars with clutch and more than 6 gears: MT, use the clutch and H-shifter for shifting up through gears 1-6, the other gears are chosen with the paddles. When shifting down to 6 I will floor clutch, go to neutral and back to 6 with the gear stick.

- cars with seamless shifting: MT using the gear stick or paddles behind the wheel, just like it's done with that car in real life.


Personal objectives:
- use Italian cars unless race restrictions don't allow it
- preferably white cars, 2nd option red and green (colors of the Italian flag)
- if all that is not possible, then let is be something cool :-) ...and spray paint it white later on
