Are you skipping other racing games because of GT5?

I'm not going to buy ... just because of GT5

Skipping NFS HP temporarily. Luckily, my birthday and Christmas are both in December, so it's going to the top of my list. If I don't get it then, I'll probably get it in January...probably the same day I pick up TDU2. Other than that, the only other racing games I'll be getting next year are Dirt 3, Motorstorm 3 and Grid 2 if it comes out next year.

Well my mum and dad are getting me a racing setup meaning that I have to buy the games. (Can't be bothered to go to the bank so I'm using left over dinner money)
Sure I'd love to buy F1 2010, WRC 2010, Ferrari: The Race Experience and Nascar 2011.
But they aren't as far up on my priority list as GT5 and NFS:HP.
In the end I'll get these, but they are not urgent wants, especially that buggy F1 game.

Get Test Drive Unlimited 2

I guess I'll be sticking with iRacing for now to hold me over - looking forward to the launch of the Williams F1 car in November

Too bad Rfactor 2 wasn't coming out sooner :indiff:

It depends entirely when the new release date is. I was going to be away for the next couple of weeks, so it wasn't going to be worth me buying anything before GT5. But now...

If it comes out in December, I'll probably just get F1 2010. If it ends up pushing into next year, I'll probably wear out F1 2010 and move on to NFS:HP too.

Are there any other racing games?

I've only brought two or three for the PS3 since launch, they don't really interest me. I'm only interested in GT5, and when it comes, I will play that, anything else can jog on! 👍

The most recent game I skipped in favour of GT5 is F1 2010, and that is without taking into account the bugs that've been reported all over the internet or that it is not as much a simulator like GT5 is. GT5 will be so big, that you can spend a lot of time and still never finish it 100%. To play F1 2010 as a no.2 game doesn't suit be, because a F1 race should be the 100% distance and not a shorter 50% or even lesser version of a full race. In that respect, playing F1 2010 in what I consider the best way, will cost a lot of time and dedication that I rather spend on GT5.

For the necessary variation I will keep Dirt 2 nearby, with it's short races of only a few laps and therefore easy snackable content. With it's off road setting it's a totally different piece of cookie, useless to compare it with GT5 anyway ;-) That's the problem of most other PS3 asphalt racers, you compare them with GT5 and they just don't measure up to those standards in physics if you don't appreciate a certain level of arcade-ness.

Only thing I've done is cancel my iRacing subscription. When I have it active it takes up ALL of my time and I don't have time for any other games. I cancel for a little while and play lots of other games. I was hoping that GT5 would be out to fill in a couple of months of play time before I re-up in the spring.

Had to vote no to all as GT5 will consume all my time dedicated to racing games, other types of games i will still be buying tho.

Since GT5 got delayed, I thought I'd reassess, and...

Nope, still nothing interests me after experiencing the Time Trial demo but GT5. I have four of the best PC sims, but I don't ever touch them. I keep going back to GT4, and one of these days, Prologue.

I've been playing GT4 exclusively in the last 2 months...

It's all about the gameplay mechanics & variety of competition - nothing comes close to Gran Turismo's GT-Mode... I hope GT5 gives the same satisfaction!

👍

Yup, I mean I was skipping F1 2010 and WRC 2010 for GT5, but neither proved to be any good, so I didn't miss much.

Someone is going to have to clue me as to what's so awesome about the new NFS. That series hasn't been awesome since III in my book.

uhhhh that seems like burnout. the whole point of burnout is to destroy the other cars.

I rather play braid. loooool

I prefer this trailer...

It looks fun, and thanks to the cheerleading of Lambo in the chat room, I'm really getting pumped for it. NFS 3 and the original Hot Pursuit were a lot of fun as a teen, and sometimes, just silly mindless fun is all I need 👍

Yes, but that was awesome in... what was it, 2000? That format would basically be little different than Project Gotham today, and I have no liking for PGR. And the only reason I'd pop out my old NFS discs is to rip the music from them.

Considering Shift is rather... well, you know, ;) I'm not expecting much from Hot Pursuit. And running from cops... meh. I don't like TDU or GTA either.

Edit: oh dear God... That trailer looks sadder the Forza 3 stunt trailer.

I know some people have a soft spot for their first "serious" racer, but... man, I never considered any NFS to be serious. Sega Rally was much more an earnest racer.

Subtle, "NFS suckz. GT 4 t3h wiN" post.

Considering that Shift was made by SMS, & HP isn't, I'm not expecting you to know much about these things anyways.

From the games in the poll, NFS:HP is the one I'm least interested in. I don't like that kind of arcade stlye racing game, Burnout was awesome but NFS:HP just looks dreary. I can't even remember the last, really good NFS-game that was worth it's money
Right now, F1 2010 looks pretty tempting ...but I think I'll just stick to Prologue until GT5.

I wasn't planning on buying any of those games except maybe WRC, depending on the reviews it gets.

Yes, GT4 was awesome, but that was awesome in... what was it, 2005? Odd how that line of reasoning works.

...and yet there's talk of a GT5 stunt mode, surely there's a reason for that...

I'm pretty sure many of us don't consider it serious either. Which is the point you're missing.

GT4 is still a awesome : ), It is the #1 racing game out right now to me. No game thus far comes close to GT4's GTMode. I'm not a fanboy but I haven't played any game lately that I will be willing to play for 5 years.

If I had a game I played constantly for five years I'd be a fan boy and proud of it.

I don't see what is wrong by being labeled a fanboy. If your a fan ( and obviously male ).

I probably would've bought Hot Pursuit, but, well, first of, it doesn't seem to be as great as its predecessor... And then, there'S GT5.

Delay or no, as it stands, GT5 is the only racing game that I'm looking forward to, as I'm not that much of an F1 fan.

I say I'm not a fanboy because most "fanboys" look down on any competitor while I really liked Grid, Forza 1&2, prior Nascar games and NFS's. I haven't strictly played GT4 but I do feel it is the best game I've played that comes to mind by far.

I don't look down on fanboy's I feel sorry that they are being closeminded just because they love one game.

I love my girlfriend but there are still plenty of beautiful women to look at.

i was planning on skipping f1 and nfs-hp. i was eventually gonna get to both of them, but now it's gonna be sooner than later.

tried out f1-2010 on the pc, didn't care for it too much. got it on the 360 and it's a lot more bearable. probably because my pc's not exactly gaming specs. i'll probably just buy it for the ps3 cuz i've got the DFGT already.

as for NFS, i've always been a sucker for the series. the ONLY nfs i didn't like was shift. everything before that's been fun. sure undercover wasn't amazing neither, but it was still helluva more fun than shift.

i'm really looking forward to the cop pursuits in the new one. and one thing anything should know before bashing on the series ... a simulation, it is not. it's just pure, arcadey fun. sometimes they try to "act" like they're a sim, but there's never been a nfs game i looked at like that. the closest would be prostreet, but even that ... it's an arcade racer at the end.

when i've got friends over and they wanna have a bit of fun with a racer, i usually throw on a NFS game, because you know, it's not a commitment or nothing. just a few laps of bashing other cars and trash talking. then it's back to the booze. if they ask for a real racer, i throw on prologue.

but to each his own.

so yeah, i'm definitely gonna get nfs-hp on release day now, just because gt don't love me no more :(
