Every time I speak with someone from Europe about my longing for these wonderful hot hatches to be sold here in the States; they start moaning about the build quality. Listen, guys, I had an '02 Ford Explorer: It couldn't possibly be worse than that. (I actually sold that truck to a French guy who told me that Renaults were crap.) Anyway, who cares if it falls apart!? (I don't.) Look at it! I would gladly do so many terrible things for the privilege of driving such a beautiful hatch on U.S. soil.

Feels a little bit like the Autobianchi to drive. Which is not surprising, since the Autobianchi was Italy's (much more stylish) answer to the Mini. I learned a few things doing this one that I might go back and try on the Autobianchi.

*update 2/19* several changes to suspension, car has much better turn in. Corrected high speed "wobble"

EVO magazine (Are you listening!? Seriously, if you have any interest in cars at all, check them out!) called this car a "mini NSX." The traction that it has on corner exits is absolutely insane! They really nailed the sound of a pissed off Honda K-Series too.

4/17/15 updated for new physics, removed turbo, added Nurburgring transmission.

It is wonderful how all of these tuner S2000s have their own character. Car has mild oversteery balance. Fun to drive! Shame that the fully
    Spoon-ified F20C doesn't seem all that different from a normal tuned F20C.

There are 2 tunes available for this car; a grip setup using SS tires, and a drift setup using CH tires.

When I first saw one of these parked on the street in Buenos Aires, I didn't know what it was or who made it, but I thought it was really cool. In 1996, this car looked like it came from the future. Fashion has caught and passed it since then, but I still really like this design.

So I bought this car and I was all like "yeah, V6, 4wd; gonna put a turbo on it and make a sleeper trololololol..."

And then the game was all like "Y U NO LIKE N/A!??? NO TURBO FOR YOU!" *trollface*

So I ended up getting trolled hard instead.

So here it is, the product of troll-induced labor. (Funny image. Sounds like a metal song title!)

Another typically radical car from Honda. This car had an air-cooled engine that revved to 8,000 rpm, and made nearly 100hp/liter...in 1970! For you audiophiles out there, this motor has a very interesting harmonic quality to it.

I grew up loving Hondas, and am deeply saddened by their current complacency. Where have all the crazy cars like this gone!? Where are my Type-R's and NSX's and S2000's that rev into the stratosphere!?

The ghost of Soichiro is crying.

    Wake up, Honda!

The first Stingray is such an awesome design, IMHO way better than the disco 'vette that came next. Shame that that one lasted for 14 years, (and got worse over time instead of better -crossfire injection-:yuck:) while this one only lasted for 4.

You need to be smooth with this one.

Drifts pretty nice. Don't bang it off the limiter, just use the huge torque from the engine and control the slide with the throttle.

Aww, you shouldn't have! I'll give this setup a try tomorrow. I don't know much about drifting though, so I probably wont notice any real changes from what I've got already.

It was no problem! Just remember to use the nitrous to help break it loose and keep it sideways.

I decided to do a comparison of the Mazdaspeed Atenza and the Renault Sport Megane R.S Trophy, since they look like promising 550pp sleepers. Both were tuned to 550pp, given sports soft tires, and sent to Laguna Seca. The best I could manage with the Mazda was a 1:30.419, whereas my best in the Renault was a 1:29.721. I much preferred the Renault as well. It understeers less on corner entry, has better stability while braking, and being FWD, was far more forgiving with the throttle when exiting corners. I really tried to get the Mazda to work for me, but it simply pushes way too much for me to get a good lap out of it.

I'm confused. Did you prefer the Mazda that you couldn't get to work, or the Renault that went faster?

I'm guessing it's the Mazda. Making some changes to the diffs and suspension right now. Should be up in a minute.

Yeah, it's the Mazda. I actually like the Renault's handling despite it being FWD, which I typically dislike. Also for comparison, my Honda S2000 at 550pp on SS tires can do 1:29.750 at Laguna Seca, which puts the Renault right with the Honda. I wasn't trying quite as hard with the S2000 though, so there's probably around half a second to gain there. Still, very competitive for a hot hatch!

Fixed. Try it now. Was able to run 1:28.5 no problem.

The Renault has a silly amount of power for FWD. it's amazing that it can cope with it at all.

Nice! That fix really helped with the chronic understeer the Mazda was suffering from. It feels like you even corrected its mild tendency to lose traction in the rear while braking. My best so far is a 1:28.877, still trying to get below 1:28.5.

Thanks! I was at 552pp, that might be the .3s difference.

I discovered a few things about 4wd lsd settings while doing the Bora of all cars! That really helped with the Mazda.

Oh, good point, I was at 550. Still, that was a massive improvement from 1:30.4. It was even enough to shift my opinion on the Mazda vs. the Renault in favor of the Mazda. The Renault seems to have this quirk where I get wheelspin in 3rd gear, which is hurting my lap times a tad. That one certainly has a lot of power for a FWD.

Out of curiosity, do you use DS3 or a wheel? I use the G27 for everything except drifting, since I cannot for the life of me lock-to-lock a 720 degree wheel fast enough.

You really have to be smooth with the throttle to get the most from the Renault! Otherwise the fronts just give you the finger and quit. They literally flip you off! :p You have probably experienced this phenomenon yourself. I tried a little ballast earlier to try and solve it, but it didn't help.

I use a DS3. I might be able to convince a friend to build me a stand. If so I'll probably buy a G27.

I highly recommend it if you can spare the cash. It's bulky like any wheel, but the consistency and control you get make it work the investment. I personally use this stand, but I've seen decent PVC stand builds that get the job done at a much cheaper price if you're willing to put in the effort to build one. http://www.wheelstandpro.com/products/wheel-stand-pro-for-logitech-g25g27-racing-wheel---deluxe

This little ol' Honda was a sleeper from hell in GT5, capable of some lap times way beyond its PP level. Nobody ever caught on to this one though, and I'm not sure why, because it was almost fast enough to be a glitch car. I would troll online hard with this little beast, running 1.15s on Rome and sub 8 minute 'Ring times.

Lol! Haven't run it on the 'ring yet, but now I know what I'm doing when I get home.

Changed final to 2.225 and ran 7:42 without nitrous on SS tires. Hilarious.
