However it makes one wonder why the annoying pleas of the beggars and such are considered important enough to translate.

Yeah .. I hate that crap. I wish I could just stealth kill all of them and be done with it.

:banghead:

And one of the researchers did state that the animus would translate important/relevant speech into modern english. However it makes one wonder why the annoying pleas of the beggars and such are considered important enough to translate.
I prefer to think of it in a more realistic term... the Animus shouldn't conceivably have any way of knowing if something is "important" or not, so I prefer to think that what you're hearing is an English "translation" provided by your own mind and not the Animus. You understand what they're saying because Altair understood what they were saying. The people speaking "English" are speaking in a language (probably multiple languages) that Altair understood and spoke himself. The ones speaking other languages in-game are simply speaking in languages that Altair didn't understand, so we hear the same "gibberish" that he heard.

That's my take on it, anyway. Makes more sense than the machine magically doing the translations for you.

Dunno if this is really important but Jason Bradbury the guy who presents the gadget show on channel five is a character in this game... he is just one of randomly generated crowd... Pretty neat to be rendered up in a next gen game!

They showed on the last episode him going to Ubisoft's headquarters and them using all the tools to put him in the game...was quite interesting.

I would just like to say how amazing this game is. I reckon it's a must buy for all PS3 owners. The graphics are superb and the gameplay is fantastic. It also has a story line which keeps you on your toes.

I dunno, i'm starting to figure out the storyline. It's pretty much obvious after a little while, and it's been done before. :\

Got it this weekend. The story line is a bit over complicated, i realised this when i tried to explain it to some friends today! Graphics are stunning ofcourse, as expected with PS3 games now. No online play as expected, they could have squeed some in somewhere, or is that asking for too much?
I'd give it 7/10. Dont like having to travel so far between cities either. Good game overall!

^ Once you've been to all the cities you get to just jump to them. Also I prefer travelling the distance, more realistic IMO.

I don't know if it would have worked with this game but online could be alot of fun, with the huge maps maybe just use like a bit smaller version of the cities. But imagine like 30 assassins running around rooftops jumping all over the place all trying to kill each other.

I'm looking to get this probably for Christmas. Are there any quirks or reasons to buy the X360 version instead of PS3?

Killing people is equally fun in each, I hear.

The PS3 version installs 2GB of stuff to the HDD, if that's a draw for you.

Actually on my machine it is more like 4 GB of stuff. 1.3 for the "game data" install and 2.8 for the "saved data." Why on earth does a save file need to 2,800,000,000 bytes?!

It doesn't. Look at the save file again.. it's 2800 KILObytes. That's only 2.8MB, which is in line with most other game save files. I checked it myself after hearing similar reports, and my save file says "KB".

You are absolutely correct. Yikes that was bad on my part. I just changed out my old contacts ;)

Don't feel bad.. hehe. Like I said, you're not the only one who thought that. I do, however, find it ironic that people complain about how big the swap file is, when the swap file for Oblivion is over 4GB. That's one of the reasons I went and put a huge hard drive in there.. never worry about space again. :)

I'm actually stuck on the game right now (end game spoiler):

The part at the very end where you fight multiple copies of Al Mualim. I literally die in seconds. Even attacks that you block cause damage, and they're damn near impossible to counter. And on the rare instances that I do manage to pull off a counter, all he does is punch him or knock him down rather than killing him.

Frankly, it's pissing me off. There's a fine line between making something challenging and making it incredibly frustrating. There should be a sense of accomplishment when beating something like that, instead of merely sighing with relief that it's finally over.

Well, I did it fairly quickly, just keep an eye on not only the one you are attacking but the ones all around you, also when one has been knocked down go finish him off. I'm afraid thats all the help I can give.

I had the same problem. All you have to do, albeit a little annoying, is take 1 or 2 out and then run away to wait for your health to regenerate. Worked for me.

You guys seriously having trouble with that part? I killed 2 or 3 of them within 10 seconds. It gets more confusing once you do that though.
He makes the synch bar disappear and he appears randomly throughout the map, you'll get him then he disappears and comes back on a random section of the map. One hit from him kills you, so I got pissed off at about the 30th try. I then remembered that I could throw knives, thats is what will help you on the last level the throwing knives.

So I just beat the game and I must say I hate the ending. I mean I was expecting more, but then again this is the perfect ending if there is a sequel.

lol spoilerz

Have you guys gone through the computers in the Animus room? They reveal a lot about the background in the storyline.

Yeah, I went through the computers during the earlier sessions. I stole the pen from Vidic after Block 3, and Lucy "conveniently" leaves hers behind when she leaves the room.

I did finish it, finally. I think there was something hinky going on with the game earlier, and it would never lock onto any of the Al Mualims, which means I could never block or counter them. When I went back to play it again just now, it happened during one of the earlier fights with the guards, and I unlocked, then relocked onto them, and I was able to fight effectively from then on. Once I got past that part with Al Mualim, the rest was a cakewalk. I had heard something a while back about throwing knives, so that made the last fight significantly easier, since you only have to get within lock-on range in order to break the "spell".

I can see why some people are upset at the ending. Clearly, they've never watched an episode of LOST... I'm used to that sort of thing by now.. hehe.

Lmao the funniest thing happened today. You know that bigass cathedral? Well I climbed to the highest point while being chased by a templar, I got to the top and balanced on top of the cross and the templar finally made it up as as well. Turns out we couldn't fight up there so we were just on top of the cross hundreds of feet in the air balancing while staring each other down. So I though I should try something funny so I jumped down and so did the templar, but little did he know that I could grab onto a ledge and he couldn't. Nothing funnier than seeing a templar jumping off the highest point in the game on his own.

Well guess I got lucky because during the sequence where AM screws up your vision I just naturally used the thowing knives from a distance once I found him. So I whipped through that part of the fight in a couple minutes.

Hmmm... well I definitely got Lucy's pwd, but every time I tried the conference room and Vidic's computer I was locked out. How do you "steal" Vidic's pen/pwd? Somehow I completely missed that one.

I assume you guys noticed Miles acquires an ability very similar to Altair's eagle vision at the very end when he is left alone in the lab?

Whenever Vidic is standing in front of the window is the only chance to steal his pen.

Yeah, the game kind of forces the Eagle Vision on you. When Desmond steps off the Animus for the last time, he gets a brief flash of it and says "What the hell?"

As for Vidic's pen, you have to exit the Animus mid-game. Lucy will stay at her computer and ask you to sit down (to get back in the Animus), Vidic is standing by the window and will yell at you to sit down. If you walk up behind him, there's a "Press any button to interact" thing, and when you do, Desmond quietly slips Vidic's pen out of his pocket and sticks it up his sleeve. From that point on, in the normal "interim" parts when the others have left the room, you'll have access to Vidic's computer. And you need that in order to get into the conference room.. Lucy emailed the password to Vidic when security changed it. Come to think of it, you might find it in Lucy's Outbox. But I've noticed that some things work automatically before you've read them, so I imagine if you don't have access to the conference room, you've missed the chance.

The information's out there, though. There's only one thing in the conference room, a computer terminal. And only one email on that terminal, the contents of which have been reposted to the internet. It sums up the status of several other Abstergo projects involving ancient artifacts:

It mentions the Piece of Eden (No. 3), indicating that #2 was lost in the accident in Denver that Lucy talked about. No mention of #1.

It mentions a time-travel device of some sort that was used in the Philidelphia Experiment in 1943, and was determined too dangerous and therefore locked away (with a mention that they don't wish to meddle in time travel for fear of paradox, so any other time-travel devices they eventually discover are to be immediately locked up and not used).

They mention the Tunguska blast as being caused by the destruction of a wave-generation device when the compound was destroyed by the Assassins, and that they hope to find more devices like it.

They mention the Holy Grail, and a growing suspicion that it doesn't exist, and will therefore be removed from the priority list of things-to-acquire.

The last thing they mention is what they call "Mitchell-Hedges Communicators", and that they work for ultra-secure communication, but are limited in number. I didn't realize it right away, but they're also based on historical artifacts. Namely, crystal skulls, which are reputed to give the bearer some psychic ability, and there are supposedly thirteen of them scattered about the globe. I imagine that if you looked at the skulls as being technological devices instead of mystical (like the Piece of Eden), then the apparent "psychic" abilities would in fact be communication between skulls, similar to the Palantiri of LOTR. As an interesting side note, the next Indiana Jones film is supposed to be related to this.

It's interesting to consider the devices in question, though. What are they? The Piece of Eden is clearly a technological device and not "magical". Was it contructed eons ago, left behind by some ancient civilization? Left behind by aliens? Built in the distant future, inadvertently (or intentionally?) left in the distant past? Are all of these various devices (the time-travel device, wave generator, crystal skulls, etc) all built by the same race? What will we find out about them in future installments?

I actually like the way they did that... It really does remind me of LOST, where they feed you just enough information to bring you back for the next episode, begging for more.. hehe.

You guys seriously having trouble with that part? I killed 2 or 3 of them within 10 seconds. It gets more confusing once you do that though.

I never said that I had trouble with it.

Ass Creed patch is out. Conveniently the day after I finish it

Eurogamer - Ass Creed Patched
Ubisoft has released a patch for the PS3 version of Assassin's Creed in order to tackle some of its crippling bugs.

You can get your hands on it right now, and it should prevent niggles like random loading stalls and game freezes.

However, not everybody over on the official forums seemed to be content, with many reporting the same problems as before.

Unfortunately Ubisoft was unable to offer any further comment over plans for future fixes.

Assassin's Creed was released in November and turned out to be a bit of a one-trick pony, although it happily went on to trounce opposition like Mario Galaxy in sales.

Eurogamer - Ass Creed Patched

First time back in the PS3 forum in forever and stopped in to see this...
Anyone with a PS3 has told me how awesome this game was and never mentioned any problems...
Guess the games not all that afterall. :ouch:

Still, I've heard it looks and plays like a top-notch game.
