Aston Martin DB10 for new Bond film

I don't think it's required.

It appears that the DB10 has a revolving number plate - pictures from Blenheim Palace show it with a Rome-registered plate.

Did all the Aston Martins in Bond history have a revolving license plate? Or is it just this and the DB5? Haven't seen a Bond movie since Skyfall came out.

Reports said the car broke down during filming. I'm curious though, considering the car is only produced for Spectre, does it function like a real produced luxury car or is it like those cars in FnF where it's not proper for daily driven ?

It depends what it is being used for. There is probably at least one that functions as a proper car for general-purpose filming.

How are the AM getting paid ?
They're not. Companies pay to have their products placed in films, which how we wind up with cringe-worthy dialogue like the infamous "Rolex? / "Omega." / "Beautiful." exchange between Bond and Vesper in Casino Royale, the 'Bondeo' scene where Bond drives a Mondeo in the Bahamas in the same film, the Sony products that appear throughout Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, a scene in Die Another Day where the camera lingers over the brands of razors that Bond uses after escaping North Korea, or even in Tomorrow Never Dies where a bottle of vodka is angled so that its label is facing the camera. Given that Spectre will mark the fiftieth anniversary of Aston Martins appearing in Bond films, they probably won't be paying as much as other companies - like Lotus and BMW - have in the past. In all likelihood, the DB10 is probably little more than a DBS or a DB9 in a new skin, too keep the production costs down.

No, Aston Martin will be counting on the intangible side of business for repayment. Skyfall was the highest-grossing films of all time, and the first British film to take over one thousand million dollars (British and American definitions of "one billion" are different) at the box office. That means a lot of people went to see it - and in seeing it, they got awareness of the Aston Martin brand. Whatever the critical reception to Spectre, it's practically guaranteed to be one of the biggest films of the year; Avengers: Age of Ultron is likely to be its only real competition. Aston Martin will be relying on that further awareness of the brand.

Even then, some of the other commercial deals will offset Aston Martin's arrangement. Heineken reportedly paid a huge sum to get the film to shoot in Mexico - namely Mexico City - to open up the Mexican market (but that's shaping up to be a fantastic scene, including something that hasn't been done since Moonraker). Omega pay to have Daniel Craig wear their watches, Belvedere to have him drink their vodka, and there is enormous competition among designer labels to have their suits in the film. It's big, big business, and a large portion of the film's budget will come from "promotional consideration" (product placement).

I think it looks great

What are those?
Filming pods. They're a hub for cameras mounted on the cars. By the looks of things, these ones are rigged to capture the drivers' appearances. They can also be used to give control of the car to a stunt driver who sits in the pod so that the actors can be filmed "driving" the cars in an action sequence without actually being in control.

Not only am i seeing a lot of the Alfa Romeo 2uettottanta in the design, i'm also seeing some Disco Volante at the rear.
I hope Aston heads towards this new design direction.

More shots of the DB10 and C-X75 with filming rigs, in no particular order but the order that I found them in:

There's some pretty elaborate rigs there. Hoyte van Hoytema is shooting on a standard 35mm Kodak film, so some of those more complex rigs are probably holding multi-camera set-ups.

I'm looking forward to seeing the DB10 and the C-X75 go toe to toe in Spectre when it comes out.

Non-gadget AM this time ?
It has been photographed with two different number plates - one for the UK and another registered in Rome - so it's possible that it has some, but nothing has been confirmed. Given that only ten have been made, I'd say it's unlikely. They usually need a dozen versions for gadget sequences, as each needs to be built around the individual gadgets. Things like revolving number plates are easy to incorporate, but missiles launching from the headlights means things need to be moved around. The Vanquish used in Die Another Day had a pair of target-seeking machine guns concealed within the bonnet, so production needed to use a smaller engine to free up enough space for the guns and the mechanism to make them rise out of the bonnet.

There are at least three - and probably four - DB10s with filming rigs that are solely used for exterior shots. Plus one - again, probably a second as a back-up - with no external modifications that will be the version we see in the film. The remaining cars will most likely be used for individual sequences; for example, the DBS that performed the barrel roll in Casino Royale was not the same one that was being driven during the pursuit immediately beforehand. The car that was rolled was fitted out with a bespoke roll cage and nitrogen canister to flip the car and protect the stunt driver whilst creating realistic structural damage to the car. But the canister was so big and heavy that it fundamentally altered the car's centre of gravity, making it very difficult to physically drive.

It's also believed that the chase in Spectre will be pure performance driving - high performance cars racing through city streets. A bit like the showdown between the DB5 and Ferrari F355 in GoldenEye.

looking through the videos posted here, i think it will at least have a bulletproof feature. For example, the one where the DB10 going reverse while being shot at, it gave off an impression of the car being bulletproof to me.

James Bean :D
That's pretty much how all vehicular sequences are filmed. That, and the Ultimate Arm. And Michael Bay has an interesting stadium buggy rigged with a camera that's designed to plough through anything it meets.

If you're going to describe specific details, it might be better to use spoiler tags.

During production of Skyfall, the film makers released images of clapboards, teasing the scenes they were shooting that day. The trend has continued with Spectre - albeit not as extensively - and this was posted overnight:

Judging by the scene number - and the numbers of other clapboards that have been released - the chase will be the final sequence from Italy. I'm guessing Bond will be trying to escape Rome.

In terms of the positioning within the film, it will probably slot in around a third to half of the way through. The Shanghai clapboards from Skyfall contained a similar sequence of scene numbers (one taken from the elevator Bond rides was numbered 51-ish from memory), though its exact positioning will vary depending on the length of the scenes that precede it in the film.

Pardon the double-post, but I saw some of this footage on the evening news, showing the practice along the Tiber. What really struck me was a black car driving along the same section as the DB10. It's very unusual because - as you might have guessed - I'm a huge James Bond fan, and I have been following production of Spectre very closely. I've seen dozens of photos from the Rome shoot, but that footage is the only place that I have seen that car. There's no reason for it to be there unless it's in the shoot, but I can't figure out what it is. I've been scouring the photos from the Blenheim Palace filming, trying to pick it out, but I'm coming up with nothing.

the front looks silly and very undefined because it only has one body panel (?), but the back looks well developed and aesthetically pleasing. Its almost as if it was designed by two different people
