After reading the OP, would you want this idea implemented in Gran Turismo?

I thought the goal was more important than the means. I'm just offering another way to achieve the same result.

The goal is to GET RID OF THE NECESSITY OF RUBBER BANDING, your idea includes rubber banding & therefore doesn't achieve the same result. I asked people in the OP to help with my idea, not come up with alternate ideas.

Even if the qually and practice is optional, it's a process that you'd have to go through every time you want to race, if you want the best possible AI. I think that it would be better with a method that allows the AI to get to know you and your driving style and remember it from race to race. That way you'd have a good AI even if you don't want to go through practice and qualification every time.

No you wouldn't it would work like this

First few races you would qualify with learning on, once it gets to your level you could then lock it.
If you improve over time you could then unlock it again so it adjusts.

Refinements would be
1) A slider so you can increase or decrease level slightly, preferably with a save button.
2) Option to not qualify if you don't want to
3) Option to set highest starting position no mater where you qualify or something similar.
