Audi sells more cars than BMW and MB combined in UK

I disagree with this. Ask any member of Audi's target market (30s) what 'unintended acceleration' is and they'll have no idea what it is. People who still use this excuse are using it as a scapegoat - it plays no part in Audi's lack of sales.

Still, you might want to agree that people who were part of the accidents might not be intent on ever buying another Audi depending on how severe the accidens were.

I would be a little skeptical of buying another Audi had my previous just unknowingly led me into a major wreck.

Here is a better question: Ask any part of their (Audi's) "target market" what brand best represents luxury in the country and you are likely to get two answers: Mercedes-Benz and BMW. Unfortunately for Audi, they are still viewed as an intermediate luxury brand like Infiniti, Lexus, and Cadillac... Not a world standard by any means. Now if Audi can overcome that hump, all the power to them, but I just don't see it happening in a reasonable amount of time.

Yeah. And is it just me, or is Volvo not even considered premium?

Premium? Maybe maybe not. It kinda walks a fine line between luxury and mediocrity depending on the model. I sat in one of the new S80s both at the Grand Rapids and Chicago Auto Shows and I came away throughly impressed. But go down to the C30, and you get a pretty similar feeling to a high-end Rabbit or GTI, just with a Swedish accent.

Maybe if we were to split luxury cars into two sides, it may make more sense:

- Low Luxury: Audi, Acura, Cadillac, Lexus, Lincoln, Infiniti, Saab, and Volvo
- High Luxury: BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Jaguar

You don't consider Lexus high luxury yet you consider Jaguar so? Stereotypes abound...

Saab is luxury like Mercury is luxury.

Saab is luxury, they just can't do it right.

BECAUSE IT NEEDS TO DIE

HAHAHAHAHHAHA

Anybody considered that BMW just released the 3 series coupe , and there isn't a vert on sale yet , this his been a transition time for the 3er coupe vert thats why maybe Audi is out selling BMW ? since the 3er is the best selling BMW model I'm sure it has to effect sales figures some how? this is a question BTW.

I suppose it is a matter of taste overall. I really don't see an LS or GS in any kind of fair-comparison to a S or E-Class from Mercedes, however the Jaguar XJ and F-Type could make a fair run at it.

...Thats just me. I know it is pretty widely known that I'm not a fan of Lexus, but when they've got Buicks knocking on their door in some cases, that may be a problem...

I'm not sure of the offical classifications, but they are as I see it. I suppose there would be room for another category of "entry-level luxury" for brands like Saab and Volvo, as well as Lincoln and Acura.

The effect on sales is minimal.

...Lets face it, Audi is still building to get there. They will probably never replace Mercedes as the "status" brand, and I highly doubt they will ever replace BMW as the "sporty" brand...

Everything can change over time. Just look at toyota, they are gonna be number one at the end of the year. Who would have guessed 30-40 years ago?

So things are good in Germany (no surprise) and in the UK (cool, but no big deal). We could beat the American dead-horse here, but it really isn't worth it. Audi needs better products here to gain a bigger market share, and I don't see the A5 or the new TT fixing that, especially with the GM Europe/Australia models coming to America, and the new Cadillac_2.0 on sale... And if Lincoln gets down to business (ie MKR, MKS), the picture looks even more grim for Audi in America.

You guys might be happy about the arrival of the new european and australian GM models, and they might be alot better than the stuff GM has been selling in america for ages, but the vectra and astra dont compete in audi's segment so I dont see them stealing any sales from audi. Vauxhall/opel/saturn is a budget brand.

Audi has the A5 coming, the new A4 coming, and a Q5. The TT will also be going on sale in america this year or next I think. The A4 was one of audi's top sellers, and that model is really old now. Audi will be doing very well when the new models are out.

TT is a guaranteed success world wide.
Q5 is a guaranteed success.
A4 is a guanranteed success.

Audi are also developing the new A8, a A7, and the R4. Audi is gonna crack the american market soon enough. I give it a decade.

Don't bother. Hell, he thinks information from Lamborghini CEOs are wrong about what they're producing.

You say lambo arent gonna make another seperate model, I do.
You say its just a coincidence that so many lambos have burned down or been crashed by talented drivers, I dont.

Its funny though that Lamborghini is now adding a HUGE rear spoiler to the back end of the murcielago for when people test them

Coincidence or not?

We will never know.

I wonder how many of Poverty's stats include this aspect and also the pre registering by dealers and manufacturers to push up sales numbers?

BMW and mercedes dont pre register vehicles or allow people to buy them for company cars?

I disagree with this. Ask any member of Audi's target market (30s) what 'unintended acceleration' is and they'll have no idea what it is. People who still use this excuse are using it as a scapegoat - it plays no part in Audi's lack of sales.

Audi target market is 30's to 50's. Average A6 Avant driver is a 40 something year old doctor apparently.

So the market segment where Audi has some success in the US (30-40) is a generation that is too young to remember or care about the 5000 fiasco. Meanwhile, the flagship A8 has few customers (I don't know why.. it's a nice car)... perhaps precisely because the target market (50+) is old enough to remember it.

I think that supports my theory.

M

That could very well be the case. All I know is audi is getting more exposure, even rappers and hip hop artists are talking about audi's in their songs these days.

Still, you might want to agree that people who were part of the accidents might not be intent on ever buying another Audi depending on how severe the accidens were.

I would be a little skeptical of buying another Audi had my previous just unknowingly led me into a major wreck.

What accidents? There NEVER was any unintended accerlation faults with the audi vehicles. It was all made up by a unethical US programme looking to boost sale figures, and in turn shatterred audi sales figures.

Really what audi should have done was to withdraw from the market and return a couple years later. Too late for that now.

Boy, no wonder audi dont sell many cars in america, americans still think it was true.

LOL audi's are more luxourious than BMW's. Go sit in a £25k audi and then a same value E90 3 series. The much older audi has a much nicer interior. Unless you spec the BMW right the interior can look rather plasticky and certainly not very premium. Also alot of people have been saying that BMW are over doing the whole sporty thing and hence the vehicles riding too harshly.

I also fail to see how jaguar comes ahead of audi. Audi>>>Jaguar EASILY. Audi is better in every compartment than jaguar, as is lexus, like it or not.

Yeah but then again I can turn around and say "but look at the A4, its really really old now and due to get replaced, and therefore isnt selling as much as it would if it wasnt old".

When did the 3 series coupe launch again, im asking because funnily enough I dont think its selling all that well in the UK, or BMW just cant make them fast enough. Ive only seen like 3 in london.

I did just that when looking to order my new company car, I looked at both the 320i M-Sport and the Audi A4 1.8T Quattro, and interior wise there was little to chose between the two and despite the run-flats on the 320 with the standard size wheels it rides no more harshly than the A4. The Audi was a major disapointment in terms of steering feel and feedback and overall the BMW is a nicer car.

You see Poverty I did not 'play' at this, I actually had to chose a car to spend the next 75,000 miles/3 years with, and I went for the BMW.

I also fail to see how jaguar comes ahead of audi. Audi>>>Jaguar EASILY. Audi is better in every compartment than jaguar, as is lexus, like it or not.
You have no idea what gives a car a soul, the value of perceived luxury or what makes a car an 'event' do you. Have you actually driven many Jag's?

Drive one and then go and drive a Lexus, the Lexus may use better wearing materials, but it feels clinical in application, while the Jag will feel like a car you want to live with and it want to live with you. Jag's advertising may be poor beyond all belief at present, but the sense you get from driving one is the same as its always been.

Luxury is far, far more than how expensive the materials you use are, how well they will wear and how well fitted they are. Hell any (and I do mean any) Toyota will tick those last two boxes, that did not make my Celica a luxury car, yet in four years and 85-odd thousand miles not one bit of trim squeaked, rattled or moved.

BTW - you still have a few points to address from Famine and myself (see posts 48 and 49 in this thread) and I for one would actually like a response this time. Particularly to Famine's very relevant points..

I believe what you mean at this point is "Sorry, ///M-Spec, when I told you that you were wrong and stated that America is Audi's 4th biggest market."

This is verging on posting information that you know to be false.

I'd advise you to think very carefully when posting your data in future - this is the third time in the last 2 weeks where you've posted something authoritatively and been either proven wrong or failed to back it up with any evidence.

..Regards

I dont know what famine wants me to reply to?

I cant find my source but I have found this out.
Toyota doesn't make more per vehicle than BMW, although they're doing very well against their competitors in the profit-per-unit battle. Toyota make more profit per vehicle than Audi. However there seems to be some inconsistencies about how much BMW makes per car. I have found sources both stating the profits of BMW to be more than audi, but at different margins.

However, and what has led to some confusion on my part atleast, where Toyota matches BMW is the percentage of profit against the actual retail cost of the vehicle.

Your BMW is specced well as it is M-sport. Last time I was at the beemer dealership I sat in a 320 SE E90. I got in, looked at the interior and was in shock. I was surprised at how unspectacular the interior was. It wasnt much better than that of the all new corsa.

My dad was surprised the most, as he doesnt think much of audi's and is much more of a mercedes fan. He rated BMW and mercedes as above audi, but after that day of looking at cars he also was amazed to see how far audi have progressed since owning his one, and he was also surprised to see that the BMW interior wasnt all that good.

Oh and the hothatch thing im done commenting one. It has already been proven that true hot hatches do exist, and I can think of 3 or 4 that have over 180hp, and weigh under 1300kg.

I dont know what famine wants me to reply to?
How about the fact that you rather aggressively said to M-Spec...

Poverty
Thats wrong America is audi's fourth biggest market. Audi sold 80 something thousand cars last year in china.

...which has been proved to be totally incorrect. So what I am looking for (and I believe Famine as well) is an apology to M-Spec.

I cant find my source but I have found this out.
Toyota doesn't make more per vehicle than BMW.
So why did you say.....

Poverty
I have seen those figures before, now I will post my sources, not just about the profit made per manufacturer but also the article where toyota now makes more money per car than bmw

...once again you are posting opinion and speculation as if it were fact, you have been repeatedly (and politely) asked not to do this, from now one cite your sources and only post as fact what you can prove as fact.

The SE spec E90 is as well put together and equipped as the M-Sport, its mainly different in trim colours and materials. I should know I looked at both, are you sure you are not referring to the ES model (the equivalent to the base spec A4)?

Oh and the hothatch thing im done commenting one. It has already been proven that true hot hatches do exist, and I can think of 3 or 4 that have over 180hp, and weigh under 1300kg.
You claimed quite clearly that plenty of hot hatches exist on the UK market with over 180bhp and 'around' 1,200 kilos in weight. I asked you to name three, something you still have not done. So how about it?

Are you just going to keep spewing random "facts" with only a single source in this entire thread?

Audi doesn't sell well in the US because they don't sell their lower-end models over in North America. I'd love to see the breakdown of UK sales based on engine/trim levels; I'd bet most of Audi's sales come from the models a lot lower down on the ladder. Meanwhile, in their attempt to compete with BMW and Mercedes over in the US, they only bring their more powerful models (The A4's lowest engine is the 2.0T, I believe). That huge amount of 1.4-1.8 models over in the UK is where the sales are coming from. They lack a proper "halo model" presence over here too; while enthusiasts know about the S and RS models, the general public does not, and know a lot more about BMW's sportiness and Merc's big-enginedness and prestige. In a way, it is too bad, because if I were in the market, I'd take an A8 over anything in the class bar perhaps an XJ.

The only way Audi will become the standard is if it assimilates other manufacturer's star models. Get a volume hatch and re-dress a sports car... oh. Hmmm.

The reason the new GM products were mentioned is because a lot of North America is still willing to give the locals a chance, and if there's a slew of new products that are better than average, carry an American badge, and cost far less than a german car, well, they'll buy the Yank. The vast majority of the US is not concerned with the status symbol the luxury cars offer, the country is still very much a mainstream market (unlike, admittedly, the UK, which is seeing the market dry up and the luxury market boom). So a lot of new car buyers in the next two years will be making a return to American showrooms, which will hurt Audi, even if the products don't compete directly. New G8, boasting patriotic RWD and solid V8 performance... or a four-cylinder Audi? Pffft.

...which has been proved to be totally incorrect. So what I am looking for (and I believe Famine as well) is an apology to M-Spec.

Not incorrect as such as I read a different article saying that china was audi's 2nd biggest market.

And M-spec himself said that the british market was bigger than the US one for audi which was incorrect but I thought also was right.

As it stands germany is audis biggest market followed by china, then the US and then tHE UK.

...once again you are posting opinion and speculation as if it were fact, you have been repeatedly (and politely) asked not to do this, from now one cite your sources and only post as fact what you can prove as fact.

I wasnt wrong as such, it depends on how you percieve the figures. As a percentage toyota make more profit per vehicle than BMW which had led to the confusion.

Its like when before I said that porsche was the most most profitable car manufacturer in the world and people shot that down on this forum. It depended on how you percieve the figures.

The SE spec E90 is as well put together and equipped as the M-Sport, its mainly different in trim colours and materials. I should know I looked at both, are you sure you are not referring to the ES model (the equivalent to the base spec A4)?

1. Clio 192
2. Ibiza Cupra
3. John works mini
4. ABT Polo GTI
5. New mini 1.6T S (it has more than the advertised 175 hp)
6. New corsa VXR

That huge amount of 1.4-1.8 models over in the UK is where the sales are coming from.

Audi dont make 1.4's. 1.6 is the lowest they make, and the main sales for audi is the 2.0TDI. Its the same for BMW, their main sellers are around the 2 litre range so that theory is out the window.

The only way Audi will become the standard is if it assimilates other manufacturer's star models. Get a volume hatch and re-dress a sports car... oh. Hmmm.

And other manufacturers dont do this? The MK2 TT chassis is extremly different to that of the GOLF and A3, to the point one could say that its basically is a different chassis. Wider, lighter and made of different materials with different weight distribution.

The reason the new GM products were mentioned is because a lot of North America is still willing to give the locals a chance, and if there's a slew of new products that are better than average, carry an American badge, and cost far less than a german car, well, they'll buy the Yank.
No one in the market for a expensive car will end up buying an american one because they are now sligtly better. We have got vectra etc for years, they arent causing BMW or audi any trouble here.

So a lot of new car buyers in the next two years will be making a return to American showrooms, which will hurt Audi, even if the products don't compete directly. New G8, boasting patriotic RWD and solid V8 performance... or a four-cylinder Audi? Pffft.

A nice interior or a typical GM one? Pffft.

GM wont hurt audi sales. They will continue to rise steadily.

Germany: 257,792
USA: 90,116
UK: 86,003
China (excl. Hongkong): 80,808

As it stands germany is audis biggest market followed by china, then the US and then tHE UK.

Which is true?

1. Clio 192

Weight: 1240 kg - doesn't meet your 1,200kg limit, but slips through the 1,300kg one.

2. Ibiza Cupra

Power Output: 177 bhp - doesn't meet the 180hp limit.

3. John works mini

John Cooper Works car no longer in production and... Weight: 1215 kg - above your 1,200kg limit, but within the 1,300kg one.

4. ABT Polo GTI

Is this an official UK car? Sold through a dealer network?

Abt themselves make no mention of power upgrades on the 150hp engine - though the non-UK market Polo GTi Cup had the requisite 180hp.

5. New mini 1.6T S (it has more than the advertised 175 hp)

Suuuuure it does. Still, it's the lightest car yet mentioned...

6. New corsa VXR

Not on sale yet - but it does meet all of the criteria and the "forthcoming" one too.

So that's one - and it isn't currently on sale. If we're generous and say "PS" instead of "hp" (and ignore "more than"), you can have the Ibiza too. If we're really generous and take your 1,300kg limit instead of the 1,200kg one then the Clio fits in as well. So that's three (out of 6 guesses). Well done - that wasn't so hard, was it?

A nice interior or a typical GM one? Pffft.
An average american choosing a foreign 4-cylinder car over a "domestic" V8 car because the 4-cylinder has a nicer interior??

That's rich.

I like how you bring up Opel vs BMW/Audi in the UK market as if it's relevant in any way, shape, or form.

Not incorrect as such as I read a different article saying that china was audi's 2nd biggest market.

And M-spec himself said that the british market was bigger than the US one for audi which was incorrect but I thought also was right.

As it stands germany is audis biggest market followed by china, then the US and then tHE UK.
The Chinese market has been Audi's largest export market for 1 month out of the last 60, that month being January of this year. One month that could well be an anomaly does not make China Audi's biggest export market.

That position has alternated over the last five years between the US and UK, figures to prove as much are available in Audi's own financial reports (years 2002 to 2005 & 2006 interim). China will almost certainly become Audi's largest export market, but that is not yet the case, so please stop claiming as much (even the article you used as a source only makes that claim for Jan of this year).

I wasnt wrong as such, it depends on how you percieve the figures. As a percentage toyota make more profit per vehicle than BMW which had led to the confusion.
No you said that Toyota makes more money (not a percentage of profit against retail) per unit than BMW, your statement was wrong.

Its like when before I said that porsche was the most most profitable car manufacturer in the world and people shot that down on this forum. It depended on how you percieve the figures.
That it does, but it also helps if you clearly state what figures you are using and provide sources for them as well.

It might have been the ES. The E92 coupe I sat in was much better than it.
As the E92 Coupe is currently only available in SE trim (one of the reasons for low sales at present I would imagine) its quite likely that the saloon you sat in was a base spec ES. So your statement about poor spec in an SE was also incorrect.

1. Clio 192
2. Ibiza Cupra
3. John works mini
4. ABT Polo GTI
5. New mini 1.6T S (it has more than the advertised 175 hp)
6. New corsa VXR
To add to Famine's comments on these.

1. Clio 192 - No longer in production, the 197 is available but is a shade over 1,200 kilos (1,240 kilos to be exact).

2. As Famine says, under the 180 bhp

3. Not only is the Cooper Works no longer in production, but it was never a factory production model. All John Cooper options were dealer fit, so the car itself was never price listed by BMW/MINI. Spec a Cooper S up to be a Works and the dealer would get the Cooper S with the parts in the boot, they then had to fit them. Also over on the weight.

4. About as relevant as saying a bloke in a garage down the road can do it, you are not talking about a production car here at all.

5. Once again pulling figures out of the air, if you claim it makes more that the 175 in standard guise can I see some proof of this, a dyno sheet should do the job. Without it you are just making up figures again.

6. Can I walk into a dealership and buy one right now? Nope

I agree with Famine that if we stretch the criteria we can just manage three (but why should we stretch criteria that you defined yourself), and that just about meets my ask. However its not exactly the 'plenty' you described is it.

You say lambo arent gonna make another seperate model, I do.
Yeah, despite Lamborghini executives reportedly telling the public twice that they have killed off the any plans for another SUV. You think your source over Lamborghini's own word is enough proof to show you have absolutely no idea about the manufacturer.
You say its just a coincidence that so many lambos have burned down or been crashed by talented drivers, I dont.
No, I said its because the engine is fragile. They're high powered engines. If they hit something hard enough, like a Ferrari, or Zonda, their engines can cause a fire.

And name these talented drivers. The only one I recall is the factory driver for the LP640, and that fire came after the accident due to a loss of control. BTW, he wasn't a talented driver either. Anyone with any brains, knows Valentino is probably about the only talented driver under Lamborghini.

Its funny though that Lamborghini is now adding a HUGE rear spoiler to the back end of the murcielago for when people test them
.

Nope, but good try on the bull****. Got a source?
Coincidence or not?

We will never know.
Actually everyone does. They know your full of crap because you think someone else's word of a manufacturer is better. You've proved that for the SECOND time when you thought your source was better than Audi's.

What accidents? There NEVER was any unintended accerlation faults with the audi vehicles. It was all made up by a unethical US programme looking to boost sale figures, and in turn shatterred audi sales figures.

Why am I or anyone else actually bothering to ask you for sources?
All you do is cram your head up your butt to look for it.

No wonder your information is always a crock of ****.

Try that again, but have a better go at blanking out the profanity.

And if the other cars in Jags range were anything like the X-Type I'd agree with you to a point, but they arn't. so I don't. The Jag XJ is every bit as deserving of a look into as a Mercedes S Class or a BMW 7 series by anyone in the market for such a car. The S-Type likewise compared to the 5 series and the CLK.

Everything can change over time. Just look at toyota, they are gonna be number one at the end of the year. Who would have guessed 30-40 years ago?
Audi ave always been a big name brand. Yes they make far more cars now and dominate a larger portion of the market, but there was less cars produced back then per company in general and far more compnies occupying thoes markets that either merged or dissapeared completely. Audi have never been as big globally as BMW or Mercedes. All three compaines are improving, Audi will only overtake any of them if BMW and Mercedes for some mad reason decided to stand still in the market.

You guys might be happy about the arrival of the new european and australian GM models, and they might be alot better than the stuff GM has been selling in america for ages, but the vectra and astra dont compete in audi's segment so I dont see them stealing any sales from audi. Audi are also developing the new A8, a A7, and the R4. Audi is gonna crack the american market soon enough. I give it a decade.
Possibly, but they will never be as big over there as BMW or Mercedes imo.

You say lambo arent gonna make another seperate model, I do.
You say its just a coincidence that so many lambos have burned down or been crashed by talented drivers, I dont.
You don't provide proof of things either. We win.

Its funny though that Lamborghini is now adding a HUGE rear spoiler to the back end of the murcielago for when people test them
Which even if it was true has nothing to do with engines setting on fire for no reason, or the cars suddenly doing 90 degree turns on a straight road for no reason. All that's doing is providing more high speed grip for lesser skilled driver to get the hang of the car.

That could very well be the case. All I know is audi is getting more exposure, even rappers and hip hop artists are talking about audi's in their songs these days.
So.

In europe audi arent ;)
In Europe if you ask the average person on the street to name premium luxury car brands, BMW and Mercedes are going to top the polls by a country mile.

Wrong.

I also fail to see how jaguar comes ahead of audi. Audi>>>Jaguar EASILY. Audi is better in every compartment than jaguar, as is lexus, like it or not.
The X-Type, not as good as the A4, that's it. The S-Type, better than the A6, the XJ, better than the A8, the XK, better than the TT though admittedly a igher market car than the TT as well so not as fair a comparison as the others.

Yeah but then again I can turn around and say "but look at the A4, its really really old now and due to get replaced, and therefore isnt selling as much as it would if it wasnt old".
The A4 has never sold as highly as it's key rivals, ie BMW 3 series and Mercedes C class.

When did the 3 series coupe launch again, im asking because funnily enough I dont think its selling all that well in the UK, or BMW just cant make them fast enough. Ive only seen like 3 in london.
Since going on sale, BMW have predicted it will make up 25% of 3 series sales. That;'s good.

I dont know what famine wants me to reply to?
Maybe to apologise for being so wrong.

I cant find my source but I have found this out.
Figures.

Which sources, your not getting the hang of this. I've found conflicting sources with Audi, some really reliable ones that say Audi has actually dropped in sales and are doctoring their figures.

However, and what has led to some confusion on my part atleast, where Toyota matches BMW is the percentage of profit against the actual retail cost of the vehicle.
Which is not what you originally said.

Good, Audi's are in no way shabby, but you compared (as we found out) the bottom spec 3 seirses to what I would guess was not a bottom specced A4. Ofcourse a higher specced A4 is going to be better than the bottom specced 3-series. Audi arn't as good as the BMW's but they arn't worlds behind. They are simply just not as good.

Not incorrect as such as I read a different article saying that china was audi's 2nd biggest market.
Which article, and if your referring to the January sales, that's been covered.

And M-spec himself said that the british market was bigger than the US one for audi which was incorrect but I thought also was right.
Regardless of M-specs mistake, you made the argument and his mistake did not have bearing on it. The UK has been a bigger market in the past, China never has. You even posted figures that showed China still isn't. Like Scaff said, no one is saying China never will be, I firmly believe they will, and not just for Audi. But to date, they arn't.

As it stands germany is audis biggest market followed by china, then the US and then tHE UK.
No it's not.

I wasnt wrong as such, it depends on how you percieve the figures. As a percentage toyota make more profit per vehicle than BMW which had led to the confusion.
You were wrong.

Its like when before I said that porsche was the most most profitable car manufacturer in the world and people shot that down on this forum. It depended on how you percieve the figures.
This is something you never seem to grasp, if you pull figures out of nowhere, people will not beleive you regardless of you being right or wrong. Especially if you have reputation for not backing them up, like you have.

Audi dont make 1.4's. 1.6 is the lowest they make, and the main sales for audi is the 2.0TDI. Its the same for BMW, their main sellers are around the 2 litre range so that theory is out the window.
But their 2.0's are still found in their lower range cars, like the A3.

GM wont hurt audi sales. They will continue to rise steadily.
Probably not, in Europe.

S type better than A6?

XJ better than A8?

XK being compared to a TT?

what world are you living in. I will reply to the rest later.

as for hot hatches we said of a weight around 1200kg. And there are 4 cars that fit that criteria. Dont change the weight limit.

China is a bigger market for audi than the US, just wait till I find hong kong figures.

winged murcie

Really? Can you prove that?

Because I bet the people in those wrecks say otherwise.

The thing about americans is that its never their fault. Its like the guy who is suing nissan because his car didnt have a reversing camera and he ran over his kid, when it was him in the first place that never specced. Go read up about the fake unintented accerlation fiasco before you keep spouting what a media machine had you to believe.

Also I dont see why a high performance car should be more likely to break out in fire than a normal car. How did you come to that conclusion?

as for hot hatches we said of a weight around 1200kg. And there are 4 cars that fit that criteria. Dont change the weight limit.

Your original statement:

Poverty
There are several cars hot hatches under 1300kg (as that was the figure you originally complained about, even though there are plently still around the 1200kg mark on sale mind you ) with 180hp or above on sale today, hence there still being true hot hatches on sale.

So - you originally said "several... under 1300kg" and "plently... around the 1200kg mark on sale" [sic]

Of the SIX (count 'em) cars you posted:
2 do not have enough power (with no data on a 3rd)
2 are over 1200kg (with no data on a 3rd)
2 are not standard production models
1 is no longer made
1 has not yet reached the market

There's some crossover, but it ultimately means that only ONE car fully matches YOUR criteria, and that's the one not yet on sale. 2 more are close but do not fully match YOUR criteria - unless you amend your criteria to mean the higher 1,300kg limit AND take your 180hp minimum to be a 180PS minimum.

Or take an unfounded claim of yours (new Mini quoted at 172hp actually having more than 180hp) without any supporting evidence. Which no-one here will do given your track-record.

This still falls far short of your "plently" [sic] claim, in that at least 50% of your nominated vehicles do not match the preset conditions - YOUR preset conditions.

Earth, I admitted that comparing the XK to the TT was off, but that's the closest to the TT that Jaguar produce. As for the others, your damn right the XJ is a better car than the A8 and the S-Type is better than the A6 too. Both not only offer the comfort of the Audi's, but they also offer a better driving experience and more, as Scaff I think put it, soul. The XJ is a better car in pretty much every way than the A8. What world are you living in Poverty? Oh that'sright, the one where Audi is the be all and end of automobiles. Audis are good, I like Audi's, I'm sure Scaff likes Audi's, but you my friend just place them on a pedestal that's far higher than they really are.

lol audi A8 is better than the Jag in every way.
R8 competes with XKR which motorvision just did a comparo with.
S type doesnt come close to audi either.

Interior alone its a no contest. Jag interiors arent bad, but their not exactly audi standard.

In england jaguar doesnt even sell anywhere near audi levels, and this is its home country. When was the last time you ever saw a jag up against audi's beemers and mercs in a comparo?

If they were as good as you say they would have half decent sales figures in the UK.

The only soul Jag has is of ford, and the image that its a marquee for the ancient.

The A4 has never sold as highly as it's key rivals, ie BMW 3 series and Mercedes C class.

If im not mistaken the A4 outsold the c-class at one point....

Possibly, but they will never be as big over there as BMW or Mercedes imo.

Thats what europeans, particulary brits were saying 15 years ago. Look at it now. Audi outsold the combined total of bmw and mercedes for january 2007

lol audi A8 is better than the Jag in every way.

Oooooh, so close. You should have gone with your second guess.

Jag interiors arent bad, but their not exactly audi standard.

F. P. M. S. L.

Dropping the nasty X-Type out of the equation - which is a posh Mondeo with a Jaguar badge for poor and stupid people - Audi's interiors aren't even close.

You're right that Jaguar interiors are not exactly Audi standard. They're a different gravy - and you've never been inside, for example, an S-Type R.

Povery, what reviews do you read, honestly. Jaguar doesn't sell as many cars as Audi, but Jaguar doesn't produce as many either. No one is comparing Jaguar sales to Audi sales. In terms of the sizes of the company, they are on two completely different levels. In a bit I'm going to be done arguing with you Poverty, you haven't got a clue at all. Any argument you take part in, especially when Audi is concerned, is done with you wearing some pretty damn big rose tinted glasses. The XJ isn't classed as a leader because it's not as good as the Audi which isn't really rated as anything special. You show me where the A8 is better than the XJ.

In Europe if you ask the average person on the street to name premium luxury car brands, BMW and Mercedes are going to top the polls by a country mile.

Thats funny because audi has won several polls in germany for most luxourious and sporty cars. Audi has been winning more awards than any other german manufacturer ;)

And L4S I can provide articles where the A8 comes out on top. I can provide articles where audi beats the 7er (and it beats it in most comparos) and comes close to the new S class. Hell jaguar dont even make any money.

famine I agree with you, I have only been in the s-type and x-type, and whilst the s-type interior is better than some of its rivals its not better than that of audis. Im sure the S-type r interior is magnificient also, and one would expect that being the top line model.

Have you been in a S8 though? That car is in a completly and absolutely different level to ANY bmw on the market and is much better than the latest S-class. The S-class I sat in even cost more than the S8. Its things like that, which moves me to love my audi's so much. Yes the drive might be flawed on the A4, and maybe the A6 but they are still up there behind BMW for us normal drivers (ie Evo magazine dont cater for the everyday man). Audis are a nice place to be, reliable, look good, hold their value, safe comfortable and easy to drive. Its because of that formula they sell so well. Unless 900,000 people and counting are wrong every year ;)

Oh and Michael Shumacher has a RS6 :D ;)
