Sim racing hardware?

I'd recommend at least trying to find a different forum for this.

I bothered to do some "research" which was quite simple.

That's more likely to yield better results, while also not confusing me to death about the usage of "pro bass shakers" in sim racing.

Cant I use the amp in the sub?

The amp in the sub is for the sub...if you connect the shaker to it as well it will change the impedance the amp sees and will either; reduce its power, or increase the heat the amp runs at and probably fry it.

If you want to disconnect the sub from the sub amp and use the amp for only the shaker, that could work. But use a multimeter first and ensure the sub and the shaker are both 4 ohm devices (or it might be written on the magnet of the sub).

If you didn't understand what I just said, then the answer is "no" ;)

Thanks that clears it up, I will buy another amp.
Thanks

Actually tactile transducers 100% belong here as they are one of the best ways to enhance the level of immersion in sim racing for a fraction of the price of a motion setup and in some cases less than a triple screen setup. If you don't know what I'm talking about then do a little more research and you'll soon know what i mean.

But, I've only seen ronzer talking about GT5. Does it support it? I thought he was talking about a subwoofer for a car stereo?

You use the game Bass audio from the game. it hooks up like a speaker.

But, PS3 doesn't have the sort of connectors I've ever seen for speakers... I've done some speaker setups before, with my dad. :)

So you don't hear any sound when you're playing your PS3?!? Guess what....it outputs sound!!! 💡

Not what I said. I said it doesn't output in the cable format I was thinking of, it only puts out the HDMI signal, (which is wired into my TV 💡)

Not true. It puts out HDMI, and Analog L/R, or both simultaneously.

What will you use as signal input? That's a serious question, I'm unaware of this technology...

What rock have you been living under???

You have 8000+ posts on GTP and have no idea why bass shakers are required when sim racing

C'mon dude!!!

Hi Ronzer

The question you asked was raised in the following thread, which explains how to connect up Bass Shakers (Tactile Transducers). You need a seperate amp to run your bass shakers.

If your audio system has a subwoofer out then use a Y splitter and feed the LFE signal to both your audio sub and the amp used to power your shaker(s). If you don't have a sub out and/or want stereo shaking then use the PS3 multiout option - the appropriate cable is included in the PS3 box.

The Aura Pros are extremely good, but very difficult to get hold of for a reasonable price in Europe. There are low cost alternatives including the Sinus Live Bass Pump 3.

Although all PS3 games can be used with a bass shaker, not all give a good effect. GT5 has good collision, kerb and offroad effects, but I loaded Dirt 3 for the first time with my shaker system and the results were very disappointing - no shaking at all except when the music plays before a race!

Try reading the following thread - welcome to the wonderful world of tactile transducers and have a happy new year all!

Has anybody who has used these done this step:

"6. Using a Phillips head screwdriver, carefully remove the top cover of the
shaker by unscrewing the four screws. This will not void the warranty."

?????

I can't get the thing open at all.

EDIT: Nevermind

This is an example of a respectful answer.

Not everyone spends money on their virtual racing. Some of us have real racing to attend to, first.

Point is, I spend my money on karting/Subaru Impreza now. :) Even if, I doubt I'd spend money on something that seems to replicate g-forces (a bit much, in my opinion.)

Consider it a very underpaid rock I live under, then, I guess. Or, maybe it's just not a $1,000,000 rock I live under. But, damn, if it were quartz... or diamond...

G219

Don't open the shaker up - there is no need - just screw or bolt it down (or up) and connect the terminals.

Mr melancholy - tactile transducers don't replicate g forces - they are used for collision, road bump, kerb and engine vibration effects. If you tried even a basic tactile system you would never go back to gaming without it. Motion systems are used for g force and are in a different price category altogether.

Sick,

Thanks. I realized that last night. After properly mounting the first shaker, I feel there is no need to put a second one under the seat. I'll mount the other one to the pedals.

Funny thing, I switched over to GT5 from Forza Horizon today and I noticed that when I drove over a curb with the left side, I felt it there. Same thing with the right. It definitely wasn't noticeable in Horizon.

Maybe it was a placebo effect. Anyway, need to make a mount and should be good to go tomorrow sometime.

One more question Sick: I have to wire the two in series, correct? I'm using the Dayton Audio 100W amp and it will be connected to two shakers.

Thanks yet again,

G219

Yes - they should be wired in series for an 8 ohm load. That amp will put out 75w rms at 8 ohm so don't turn it up to full - three quarters should be fine.

Post up some pictures when you're done!

G29 did you put one under the seat? If so how did you do it?
Thanks

Yes I did. I may have to do both. I'll post pics in a half hour or so.

ok thanks will be waiting. I have the same rig as you and want to do a buttkicker also.

Anytime...and thanks.

I should add that I did have to drill through the steel. It's simple if you have Cobalt or Titanium bits though.

After second thought, I don't think there's a need to add a second Aura under the seat; especially as there isn't much separation, and I'm getting good feedback as it is.

I'll just have to think of a solution...
