automatic or manual?

i saw a thread about this and just want to gather what transmission most of you lot use.

i drive auto, i tried manual but it cocked up big time!

Okay - there's been quite a few polls on this, so expect a heap of flame on this, mostly telling you to 'use the search function'.

Manual for all regular driving and for races with up to 5 laps. Always on auto for the longer races 'cause I always start to loose my concentration...

And I always use auto when playing in 2player mode. The distraction of the other car's sound is too great and I hate not having my analog rev counter.

Auto. I do better when I concentrate on actually driving and hitting my marks rather than driving AND shifting

Manual cuz it's to hard to drift with an automatic transmisson the cars is always shifting..

well,I began drifting with an Automatic transmission,so I just picked up from the experience I had already learned with drifting in an automatic,so it made it a WHOLE lot easier when I switched to a manual..I just had to get the hang of shifting into a corner and shifting while exiting,but hey..that's also a MAIN part of drifting with a manual isn't it?I may have already known when to brake and how to turn,when to hit the gas,but that still didn't mean that I knew when to shift..so that took a while to get adjusted to,but now I can't stop =D!

Wow. I thought that you had learned about the Search function in your drifting thread...

Just to try and show you how useful (!) the Search function is, I typed in "manual automatic which" into the Search field, and came up with two whole pages of results. And, because I'm a nice feller, I even went through each thread to see if it was relevant to what you're asking, then copied-'n-pasted each thread to this post (basically, almost all of the threads are directly asking "Manual or Auto?"). I then even took the "highlight" part out of each URL so that it wouldn't highlight "manual", "automatic", and "which" and hurt your eyes.

Isn't it amazing what the SEARCH function can yield?

Please, please make use of it... bandwidth isn't free, contrary to popular belief.

I figured that after two incidences, he needed a little sarcasm to get the point across... Yes, normally, I wouldn't be so rude, but when someone makes the same error twice, you've got to get their attention somehow.

i have sigs turned off, and for a good reason. is yours 15 lines long? i thought so.

anyway, i use an auto. when i get a decent wheel with a shifter i'll go to stick, but shifting with a controller is just plain retarded.
