B-Spec - What's the point of "maintain pace"?

For some strange reason, Bob won't maintain pace on his own. But then again, sometimes when I press maintain pace, he speeds up. 👎

Bob is at his best when the cool/hot meter is somewhere in the middle. If you leave him, he goes cool and will slow down.

He doesn't just slow down a little, he slows down alot, sometimes it can be 5-10 seconds a lap if you let his cool/hot meter reach 0, depending on how long the track is you could loose even more time.

As mentioned above, don't let his cool/hot meter reach 0, always maintain his pace somewhere between 25-75% depending on how fast you need him to be.

If Bob encounters another car his cool/hot meter naturally goes up, whether it's for a back marker or for 'position'.

In this situation it can often get to maximum, which then, is a good idea to tell him to decrease pace and calm down a little (once he's past the other car).

When in 'free air' i.e. no one around him, then maintain pace will not result in him going faster or his cool/hot meter going up.

The point of B spec is that you are a MANAGER, therefore you have to MANAGE your driver - which includes his attitude and subsequently his 'speed'.

Maintain pace simply keeps his cool/hot meter from moving for a while if he is in clean air with no one breathing down his back and his meter in the center if you hit maintain pace every 30 seconds or so his meter will not budge fromt he middle and he will both drive decently and turn some decent laps.

The problem is maintain pace should last much longer that what it is actually now - currently you have to press again and again after 30 seconds or so to actually "maintain" his pace.

This goes down the higher the level of the driver.

Also the middle is not the best place to have the driver from my experience. The hotter they are the faster they will go unless they are making mistakes, so you have to find that sweet spot.

I found that my driver was fastest when kept right at the maximum hot limit in one race and got gradually slower the further he went from the absolute limit.

I think he only makes mistakes if the race/car he is driving is at/near/above his driving level.

I don't think it makes sense that "maintain pace" should have the same time duration as "overtake."

Usually giving Bob a car that has alot more power than grip and getting him to drive it at maximum will result in an inevitable spin or crash.

You can put a 0 level Bob into a Le Mans car and he'll be fine, aslong as you manage his pace, many people do that at the higher levels of B spec to level up a new Bob quickly.

As mentioned above, don't let his cool/hot meter reach 0, always maintain his pace somewhere between 25-75% depending on how fast you need him to be.

Or, if you are just grinding for XP, give him a car that is fast enough that even with 5-10 extra seconds/lap he is still fast enough so as not to allow the AI to catch up.

Also when Bob get to higher levels he will speed up by himself if the AI start catching up, but that is not fool proof...

I'm not sure, but I think the best place to keep the meter depends on what his personality type is. It shows you this when you select your bob for a race.

At beginning you will need to pace down your ''Bob'' (lol i don't know why people are calling them Bob's), because he will try too hard, you have to give him decent car, but also not too fast, you can check for frequently cars just before entering a track, get a car and tune it so its about 50-100BHP more powerful, because like real human you Bob needs experience driving next to opponents pass them and draft, cool down and command your Bob well, and if you feel he takes corners too fast or too slow pace them down or up, and if they have done well then press maintain pace.
