Banned User Log Question

My question pertaining to banned users is this.

Once banned, is it always permanent?

I met a guy online that runs some very respectable, competitive and fun shuffle races. Since the rooms were always set up using GTP OLR rules I always assumed he was a member of GTP. It turns out he had been but was banned.

I figured I'd at least ask if it was possible for him to be a member of this community again.

It's typically dealt with on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the user's previous history here, how long they've been gone, etc etc.

Some members have returned after particularly unfortunate fall-outs completely transformed, becoming great, contributing members. Others, well... you see them in the BUL more than anywhere else.

Would you mind if I pm'ed you his name? I am not exactly ready to vouch for the guy, but I figured I'd ask on his behalf since I've had nothing but good experiences with him.

I think permanent means permanent. If you don't follow the rules, you get banned. My guess is to say that a permanent ban has never been reversed.

It has been in the past.

By all means 👍

Really? I didn't know that.

That's what I hinted at - it does happen (though typically, returning banned members aren't usually looking for anything past more trouble).

Off the top of my head, I'm not recalling a time when a PERMANENT ban has been reversed.

There are, of course, times when an EXPIRING infraction is given that, once its time is up, the user is free to return. Past that, once you're gone, you're gone.

I've said this in the past - the staff doesn't enjoy banning people so if you've been banned (NOTE: all transactions leading up to the ban are documented for the entire staff to see), you've violated the AUP in some way and deserved it.

Almost certainly repeatedly.

Not even the once a week drawing for a random banning? :D

Oh, and another question... Has a moderator ever been banned?

Maybe he means times where pemabanned members were allowed to come back under different names?

I can think of 1 person off my head. And yes to the above.

Yes...twice, in fact.

1. Don't delete other people's posts just because they have different political views than you.

2. Don't share your password with anyone.

Maybe not here but I've gotten permanently banned off a board (long time ago and for a wrong reason) and it wasn't permanent. 5 years later I stumbled across it again and my old account wasn't banned anymore. I guess they think people will forget about the ban.

Care to share a name? Or 2? :sly:

Can a moderator ban himself?
I was getting on my own nerves so I've added myself to my ignore list. Can't infract what you can't see. :p

Seriously, though, no, we can't. At least not in any way that I've been overly motivated to find out about.

Purely out of interest, can moderators and admins recieve warnings like us folk or are they exempt from it?

AUP applies to everybody, mod or not 👍 However this is why people appointed mods are appointed mods, they have demonstrated a history of respecting AUP and thus are not likely to break them.

^ If not breaking any rules gets you closer to mod status, I'm on the right track.

You probably must know Jordan to be one ...

I am actually a banned member as you can see

Never even a warning Modship here I come.

Next day you get.

Haitch 40 banned :nervous:

Ok my sense of humour is awful. You can't ban people for bad jokes right?
Please dont:nervous: I can improve I swear. :p
Oh and those 2 names you gave us don't work in the search. Or are they not meant to?

You can't get banned for telling a bad joke because it doesn't breach the AUP. That's unless if it has swearing in it and you-know-what.

I know. I was joking.

I see few members that get banned and dont pop up in the banned user thread.

Usually spambots, people that have been here for a while get listed. I don't think secondary accounts get listed much either, but some do.

I lol'd :D

Anyways, out of curiosity:
- Who get's to appoint users as mods? Admins or the Super Admin?
- How are you informed that you've been promoted to mod status?

I remember someone getting banned because their user title said "Bann3d" or someway to pass the filter. :scared:

I don't know but maybe the Admins can suggest who should become a moderator and then their choice has to be approved by Jordan before they actually become a moderator. Not saying that this is what actually happens, just my suggestion.

Hahaha :) . Good one; never laughed that hard for a long time.

I see few members that get banned and dont pop up in the banned user thread.

This is because the moderators sometimes won't bother putting someone in the Banned User Log when they know what they did to get banned. And I can't blame them either because people shouldn't sign up if they are only going to break the rules later.

I think Jordan is the only one who can appoint mods. And I assume they would be told through PM.

1 question though. Were all mods premium before modship?

I would imagine so. They would have to know themselves around the Infield a bit I presume.
