So, if the boss is leaving...does that make me McLaren team leader for S4?

:P Don't be so sure about that, bud.

Kidding yeah you can be the big man of the team if you want.
👍

High Hopes at Home for British GP:

Heyo all, it's the nameless announcer guy back again to cover the British Grand Prix from Silverstone! The field's just about ready to take their formation lap, so let's go over the qualifying grid real quick-like.

On pole in his home race is Ashley Butler in the McLaren with a absolutely scorching lap of 1:18:135. He's come off his first points finish and a strong one at Monaco and is looking to build momentum. Starting next to him in 2nd is championship contender Jef Beyens in the competitive Renault. He won the Monaco race and is looking to claim a third win here.

Third is one of Beyens's main rivals, Blake Haswell in the Ferrari. He is 2nd in the championship by just 2 points and is looking to extend his lead and jump into the championship lead. Fourth in the surprisingly fast Midland is Brad Horton, another consistent driver in the hunt for a championship.

Row 3 is all British with Simon Trendell, another Ferrari driver, who is actually tied with Horton in the championship for 5th. Hutchinson in the 2nd Renault starts 6th despite only turning out one comptetitive lap. He should be watched out for in the race.

7th is Herman Chang in the BMW, he's shown competitive pace all year but has not been consistent enough. Chang is looking for a good finish here to boost his championship position. 8th is Nathan Soyfu in another strong outing for the Midland. He is currently fourth in the championship.

In row 5 Yuuji Kawasie starts from the 9th position - the championship leader as a rookie, but he's coming off a DNF at Monaco. Veteran Lee Davidson starts tenth in his home race.

Row 6 is all Red Bull, with Chris Taylor 11th in his home race, and Jason Richards 12th.

13th in row 7 is Brett Edwards in the Super Aguri, and 14th in the Toyota is Jarrett Allman.

The Williams team occupies row 8 with Lloyd Ramos 15th and Steve Travis 16th.

In row 9, Damien Adams of Aguri is 17th and Honda's Marc Pianelli is 18th.

Rounding out the grid in row 10 is Christopher Owens in the 2nd McLaren, well back on wet tires, and starting last inexplicably is Abdeslam Charkaoui in the Toyota.

How about a number one on the BMW this season? :P

(edit: I mean championship-position wise, if there's some hidden meaning than I've made an arse of myself)
*sigh*

You have.

The hidden side to my contract with BMW

From the team:
Although the 1st seat driver Herman Chang has shown great potential this season, we have decided to end his contract with the BMW team with an undisclosed reason. He is a great driver nevertheless, lots of power and potential to be the champion, considering he is just a rookie this year. Maybe we'll see him in a BMW car again in the future.

From the driver HC:
The real reason of my contract being cut is because, my agent couldn't work out a deal with the BMW team. We demanded more out of this deal, but the team just could not give it to us. However, the speaker from Toro Rosso contacted us one day and told us that they can give us a deal better than the current one BMW has to offer. I thought, well, I get more out of this, switching to the junior Red Bulls can't be so bad, considering their pocket is pretty deep. So I made the change. I'll be sad to leave my teammate Yuuji though, he has been a wonderful teammate and I hope we can finish this season strong!

...and there's word that there's a Red Bull with suspension damage and - there it is! Looks like it's Richards, whose car has parted ways with one of it's wheels and it's headed straight to the garage. Too bad, he was moving up through the field pretty well. Here, we have him coming on the Team Radio, let's listen in...

Richards: "...****!"

OK...let's not...clearly a little frustrated...

 👍

All you get is a little 'L' next to your name.

Ah, so that's what that means. I never knew. :)

Fonce: what's with the wets in qual? Funny thing is, you were still faster than Appie on soft slicks... :odd:

(Silverstone Spoilers)

Chalk up a 3rd for Beyens and Renault

Renault drove away from the British Grand Prix with their best showing of the season today, having both their cars finish on the top two steps of the podium. Ashley Butler, having mastered the McLaren had another strong showing during qualifying to place himself on pole for his home race, alongside him the Renault of Jef Beyens. Season 2 champion Blake Haswell turned up 3rd on the grid with Horton and Trendell rounding off the top 5 qualifying positions respectively.

Renault driver Jef Beyens' girlfriend surprisingly showed up as a Fosters Pitgirl,
where Honda driver Lee Davidson was paying more attention to her than the race ahead

Right from the start, the race turned to chaos as firstly Adams and Pianelli collided with no retirements and then later, the other Honda driver, Davidson getting into a on track brawl with Taylor, resulting in the Honda having to limp back to the pits with terminal damage to the chassis, a sad end to what was not a brilliant home race weekend for the Honda driver.

Lap 4 showed that the British Grand Prix could still provide a good show when future Ferrari teammates Trendell and Butler collided during a battle for second place with both cars skidding to a halt in one of the many run off areas. Butler was fuming as what was until then a successful race weekend, that he threatening physical harm to the Ferrari driver..... gonna be interesting to see how these two get along next season when Butler joins Ferrari.

Butler gunning the McLaren before the Lap 4 incident.

Lap 6 saw Horton as the next retirment due to driver error and from then the race started to settle down into a smooth flow with the first pitstops starting on lap 17 with Allman in the Aguri being the first to come in for fresh rubber and fuel. Race leader since lap 1, Beyens in the Renault was tanked up heavier on fuel for the first stint of the race and at the time of his pit stop on lap 27 he had a comfortable 32 second lead, allowing the Renault driver to exit the pits leading the pack, but the cold tyres came to haunt him as he fell back several positions. After the first stops the top 5 were, Hutchison and Beyens (Renault), Taylor (RBR), Haswell (Ferrari), and Kasawie (BMW).

Lap 39 saw the beginning of the 2nd round of pitstops, filtering through till lap 45, with Beyens who had stayed out back in the lead, with teammate Hutchison behind followed by Taylor, Kawasie and 2nd RBR driver Richards.
Final stint of the race saw Williams driver Travis go out with exhaust problems and few other drivers lapping slower to nurse their problematic cars home.

Last lap drama saw last remaining McLaren driver Owens slipstream past Richards to take a top 5 finish, in front of him in 4th Kawasie, 3rd Taylor, 2nd Hutchison and taking the win and his 3rd win of the season, Jef Beyens by a margin of 18 seconds.

Beyens chalks up another win for the season

The result means that Renault now top the constructors table and Jef Beyens moves into 2nd in the drivers championship, 1 point behind BMW driver Kawasie and 6 ahead of Ferrari driver Blake Haswell.

Join us next race weekend for the Grand Prix of Canada, where the tight fast turns and breakneck speeds are sure to guarentee some brilliant racing.

It's not what it looked like! Nah it's fine..

EDIT: Exclusive Interview With Lee Davidson

Hi Lee, so your now halfway through the season, not quite reaching expectations?

Season 3 has been a toughie, that's for sure. But I think it's mroe due to the fact that the field is much more even this year, alot of people have raised their game and the rookies are actually setting a good pace. It's quite scarey.

How has the car been?

Honda have done well I think considering the level of competition, we could improve the car still I believe and will be looking forward to an engine upgrade in the near future.

For Season 4 your racing with McLaren, what are your thoughts?

I'm very excited and I'm looking extremely forward to it. I think the team could help get me to the top and I'll repay them with a constructors championship. Christopher (Owens) is looking to be a very fast, young driver who I'm looking forward to racing with. I can't wait!

You had a fairly heavy colision with Chris Taylor at your home GP, what's your reaction been?

I've had a talk with him and just generally asked him to watch out next time. Of course it's his first season so I'd expect him to be a little erratic but I'll let him off the hook this time. Just needs to check his mirrors more often.

So who's the favourite for the championship in your view?

Renault are looking very strong right now, especially Beyens. There's always going to be Ferrari aswell and young Kawasie has suprised me along with many others I'm sure. It's going to be a close one.

And your targets?

I'll look to beat Hutchinson perhaps. I think that's the most I can hope for currentally.

Montreal pre-race chat with Lee Davidson.

Lee, how do you feel your qualifying went?

LD: Quali was alright, considering I only had one lap to get 8th was pretty suprising.

How do you feel ahead of the race?

LD: I'm confident, the car is handling well, I think we will see a good battle with the Midlands, a win is out of the question though I think.

Honda are currently level on points with Mclaren, how do you see that battle panning out?

LD: It's going to be close!! We are both very evenly matched teams and I just hope for a good, close, clean battle with Butler and Owens.

On a more personal note, do you think your personal life is gooing to affect your race performance in any way?

LD: Well my life off the track stays off the track, I can't see it any different. I'm here to race for Honda and that's what I shall do.

Thanks Lee and good luck with the race.

No problem, can I just say thanks to all my fans who have supported me through this so far dissapointing season.

A true driver for you right there, no matter how hard things get and no matter what happens off the track, he still stands strong and takes everything in his stride.

ITV-F1.com Exclusive Interview With Ashley Butler.

So Ashley, halfway through the season now, reached expectations?

A.B:To be honest no, my expectations were higher but I feel I've let myself and the team down.

You feel you have let yourself down? Many people feel you have deserved the Ferrari seat, your reaction?

A.B:I feel I have let myself down with poor performances yeah. I think in regards to the Ferrari seat, with no disrespect to previous teams I have been with, it will be nice to race with a team who have had recent good championships, Mclarens last title win was a fair while ago, same with Williams whereas Ferrari won it last season and are strong again this season. So to me its a big chance at the title and other people clearly feel the same

Once again you have a rookie as a team mate in Christopher Owens, how have you two got on?

A.B:It has been hard, I have had 3 rookie team mates and it is hard, we get on well off the track but on the track our relationship is not as good. It will be nice to have an experianced team mate next season.

So here we are now at Canada, hows the weekend gone and what are your expectations for the race?

A.B:The weekend has been very tough, the weather was against us in practice and quali the setup was all wrong, warm up looked better but I'm not expecting much from the race, a low points finish maybe.

We have heard of recent troubles off the track involving dips, is it a distraction?

A.B:Nope no distraction, it was just a sponsorship clause, i did not realise i would be sponsored the Onion and Garlic dip instead of the Salsa dip which i originally wanted to be spsonsored by. But it is nothing massive just a small thing.

So where do you see yourself at the end of the season in the standings?

A.B:Higher than this hopefully, I want to show Ferrari what I am capable of, I have only shown my full potential at Silverstone so far and I feel I have more to prove.

Have you enjoyed your time with Ron Dennis and McLaren?

A.B:Absolutely it has been great working with a British team again, something I will miss at Ferrari.

Thanks for your time Ash, and good luck with the race today.

A.B:It's been a pleasure and thank you.
