Davidson Makes The Indy Treble!

Lee Davidson took his 3rd win in 3 years today at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in front of 100,000's of fans. The young brit could not hide his emotions as his drove the McLaren over the yard of bricks for the final time.

"It was a great race, the team worked perfect all weekend and I couldn't have asked for more." - Davidson

Davidson started on pole after blitzing his final quali run in the dire moments, he lined up alongside fellow countryman Duncan Hutchison in the Renault, Beyens took 3rd in the sister Renault. Championship leader Dubois lined up 5th in the Williams. As the lights went out, Davidson was jumped by Hutchison whilst Beyens ran wide at turn 1 causing a spin on the grass, he fell down to 19th and was lucky not to be collected in a collision between Baciu and Alfonso Nearn causing the Toro Rosso to limp back to the garage. On lap 2, Davidson's team mate Herman Chang took Hanon down the main straight, then, on the next lap Chang made a carbon-copy of the manoeuvre, this time on Lovett in the Red Bull. Chang appeared to be on fire.

By lap 10, the standings were, Hutchison 1.5 seconds ahead of Davidson with Dubois 5 seconds down the road. 4th was Chang in the second McLaren with the 2 Red Bulls of Whitcombe and Lovett in that order. Season 3 champion Yuuji Kawasie was in 7th and Dan Graham putting in a good drive to hold 8th and the final point. Lap 15 saw Kawasie drop out of the points after being overtaken by both Graham and Hanon in the Midland, also Davidson closed the gap to Hutchison. Lap 18 saw the 2nd retirement of the race when Herman Chang pushed too far in turn 11 and planted it into the barrier, what looked like good early pace paid out for nothing.

On lap 21 Season 2 champ Blake Haswell continued his slump in form when he had a collision with Johnstone in the Super Aguri, Haswell came out of the turn with a broken suspension and could no longer take part, he was in 19th.. the resulting safety car caused the front runners to pit for new tyres and fuel, as the race resumed on lap 24, Davidson was overtaken by Lovett into turn 1, later he complained about the tyre temperature. He then lost another 3 places on the next lap causing concern to arrive on the face of Ron Dennis on the pit wall. However he wasn't the only driver having problems with tyres as Hutchison fell behind the McLaren also having trouble with grip, Michelin were looking ready to take the blame. Lap 35 hosted an early exit for the championship leader Dubois when his Williams collided with the Toyota of Mason at turn 1, both cars were unable to continue and as Dubois climbed out of his car, he was confronted by an obviously disappointed Mason.

By the time all the 1 stoppers made their stops, the order went like this: Hutchison was in first, however Will Whitcombe was right on his rear wing infront of his home crowd. 3rd was Lee Davidson, no finding some more grip with the Michelins, right behind him was Alfonso Nearn in the sole-remaining Williams. Then there was a gap to Horton in the Honda having a very quiet race, the 2 BMW Saubers followed with Kawasie leading team mate Allman whilst Lovett rounded out the top 8. On the very next lap however, Davidson fell to 4th when Nearn put in a brave move into turn 13, the second stops for the 2-stoppers started around lap50 with Hutchison diving in from the lead and Horton from 3rd. This left Davidson in the lead with a little bit of fuel left, he needed to put in a fast lap if he wanted any chance of the win. The McLaren mechanics worked superbly and got Davidson on his way again in a flash and it paid off with the youngster pulling back out in front of the luckless Hutchison.

Once again however Davidson had trouble heating up the Michelins and lost the lead to Hanon in the Midland on lap 52. He would soon take back the lead however when Hanon pitted on lap 54, dropping out of the points. Then an amazing battle with Hutchison took place, they had been running close together for most of the race and it was now going to be decided in the next few laps who would take the spoils, Hutchison managed a daring move up the inside into turn 1 to take the lead as the Renault garage jumped up and down. On the very next lap however, Davidson was able to slipstream up the side of Hutchison down then main straight, then Hutchison, apparently not seeing the McLaren cut over to block Davidson, the two collided with the Renault pitching into the wall and the McLaren spinning onto the grass section. Hutchison climbed out of the car distraught, and walked straight over the pit wall and into the garage. Davidson continued but fell to 4th as the field bunched up behind the safety car, Horton was now in the lead.

The safety car pulled in on lap 60, 13 laps remained to determine the winner, lap 61 saw Davidson move to 3rd after passing Nearn. Then on the very next lap he moved to second after passing Whitcomb into turn 4, he now had his sights set on the leader, Brad Horton. Lap 63 saw Davidson on Horton's rear wing for the first half of the lap, a mistake by Horton in turn 10 gave Davidson a great run and managed the pass around the outside into turn 11, Davidson was back in the lead within 3 laps, Ron Dennis managed to crack open a smile in amazement. Davidson then managed to pull away to take the win, his 3rd at the track in the past 3 seasons, he certainly appeared to master the track. On the last lap Lovett managed to take Horton for second, a great result for the Red Bull team. Behind Horton was Whitcomb in the second Red Bull, Hanon and Nearn followed in 5th and 6th. AlMoman took Kawazie to finish what was otherwise a quiet race in 7th with the Season 3 champ in 8th. In total 16 cars finished with Chris Taylor bringing his Ferrari home 4 laps down.

I'll confirm myself for another season with McLaren right now. Here's the guidlines for the transfer system:

1. People in Italic are those who are driving in that seat for Season 4, they could becoem your future team mate so pick carefully. Also they have priority over their seat, as if they took a contract extentsion or so.

2. If your a returning player, you CANNOT join your old team, they do learn from mistakes. ;)

3. Players in Bold are confirmed for the seat they are in.

4. If you confirm yourself for a seat but change your mind, you may only change if you can find a replacement for yours.

5. Role-playing the transfers would be greatly appreciated. (Just a simple news story will do)

Have fun!!

Breaking: Red Bull #1 to Move to BMW Sauber Next Season

Red Bull Racing's #1 driver, American Will Whitcomb, has announced that he will be signing on with the BMW Sauber team for next season. Whitcomb denies any disappointment with the team or the car.

"Well, you all know by now that I had been cloned...no. More like 'duplicated'... in order to keep the other car in the series," Whitcomb said, referring to the curious phenomenon that took place when teammate Tristan Lovett's car developed a force field that wouldn't allow him inside the car. The budget that would have been spent on a test driver was, coincidentally enough, spent on a duplicator similar to the cardboard box from the Calvin & Hobbes comic strip. So the team duplicated Whitcomb so there could be a driver for the second car.

"To be honest," admitted Whitcomb with a bewildered look on his face, "It was just starting to creep me out. I mean, he acts just like me! And he looks just like me! I had no idea how hard it was looking at this face! I've decided that I would rid myself of the distraction if I change my ride."

P.S. - You put Tristan in my spot, but that's no problem.

BMW Terminates Kawasie's Contract
In a shocking move yesterday the BMW team publicly announced that they would no longer have Yuuji Kawasie, Season 3 champion, as first driver at their F1 team for Season 5. Or their second. Or third.

BMW will release Yuuji at the end of this season following a very lukewarm performance in Season 4. Coming off a strong championship win in his rookie season, Kawasie has failed to turn heads in his second year.

Kawasie was quoted as saying, "Honestly it's not a surprise to me. BMW has been a tough team standards-wise, releasing Chang last season and now me. I know I've been having a substandard season and I understand their motives. Not to say I'm not frustrated but I'm confident I'll find a drive for next season."

Yuuji will drive out the rest of the season at the BMW crew but report of his release may adversely affect his performance. He is currently interviewing around for a new drive.

FLASH: Kawasie signs with Midland for Season 5
Just hours after his release from BMW, Season 3 champion Yuuji Kawasie has announced that he has signed with the Midland F1 team for Season 5.

"Well, Midland has shown they have a strong race package in the right hands and I'm confident I'll be able to do well with a good teammate. They're definitely not a team to be underrated and that's why I'm signing with them," Kawasie stated.

There has been no public statement from the Midland F1 team yet. Yuuji passed up seats from Red Bull and home team Super Aguri for the drive at Midland.

TROUBLE AT TOYOTA
It has been announced today that No.2 Driver Luke Mason has yet to sign a new deal with Toyota F1. Presented with a contract during the British GP, Toyota insiders have told GTP NEWS that Mason refused the deal which would see him drive at the team next year. Toyota has since refused to comment on the situation, bar saying that they will chase the young rookie, and try to match any offers that come his way.

This comes at an interesting time at Toyota, where by Mason qualified 4th in the rain at this weekends French GP, when asked about the deal, Mason was more focused on finishing this season off on a high,

"Im happy with the result today, 4th in a car which has been struggling for pace all season is a fair effort. I wouldn't be lying to ya if i was pleased with how the car has been this season, but hopefully we can press on and push for a few podiums in the 2nd half of the season."

:dunce:

Are there spots open?

I'd like to join.

I'm warming up in a public game with Red Bull.

I'm the superiour one over my teammate as he gives no feedback on set-ups. My time involved with the Red Bull team pays off as in the Melbourne GP I started from 9th, made my way to 4th in just 10 laps. I lost time by making three pit stops while 2 were needed. I finished 8th 👍

Today, I qualified as 12th, happy about it as I even improved my settings before the race 👍

A Super-Aguri and an MF1 are in front of me, I should easily take them by the start 👍

SPEEDNews Headlines: Big changes at BMW.

AP - BMW Racing Officials have confirmed that Yuuji Kawasie, BMWs #1 starting driver, will be released this year. BMW says they are looking for newer, younger potential for next season, and Yuuji hasn't performed to our expectations this season.

"Allman had an absence of leave for a few races, but has come back, and is shocked by this news." says Allman's mentor. "I sadly believe that this may affect his performance in the following races. He has really been satisfied with his teammate this year, and will have to make big adjustments for whomever takes his teammate's spot next season."

This could be disastrous for BMW. They have just released their star driver, and their rookie driver will most likely have a huge degradation in performance because of this shocking news. Do you believe BMW has made a mistake? Voice your opinion at www.speednewsnetwork.net/bmwpoll.php .

Davidson Confirmed For McLaren

In a press conference today, the rumour of Davidson signing a one year extension to his contract was confirmed at Germany, Mercedies' home country.

"We are delighted to keep Lee on board at the team, he has shown a more mature side of him this year with a good run of reliability. His wins have been a fantastic boost to the team and hopefully we can continue this into the secon half of this season before preparing a challenge in Season 5." - Ron Dennis

Lee Davidson also spoke out at his delight to keep his drive.

"There are many fast drivers who were also looking for a good drive such as Yuuji and Duncan, I'm just relieved to have secured my seat before anyone else took it from me. I'm happy with where I am and I hope to reach greater heights in the future."

His team mate, Herman Chang, is still in negotiations with the team as to where to go next season. More news as it comes in.

Charkaoui In Shock Return!

After Davidson's confirmation at McLaren it was Honda's turn to steal the headlines when the team this morning confirmed that Abdeslam Charkaoui will be returning to a race drive after spending a season as their 3rd driver.

Abdeslam commented on his move saying "I'm really happy to be able to come back and race next season. Testing has been good for me and I feel I have learnt alot about the car and me in general. I hope it will be a successful season for both me and the team."

Gil De Ferran made the announcement saying "Abdeslam has covered many miles with the team and he was always at the top of the list for a race drive, we are not currently sure yet who he will replace."

Blake Haswell is favourite to get the chop after a run of poor results compared to his team mate Brad Horton who finished in the points last time out in France.
