Actually, these damage changes are looking pretty crappy right now.

Why nerf the M98 and Foregrips, and buff shotguns?

Nope :(

Meanwhile, news of weapon tweaks in the next patch ;

http://symthic.com/f/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=471

If that is the list of changes (and DICE seems ambiguous at the best of times), that is garbage pandering to noob players.

In short,those suggestions lead to:

- Nerf PDW's
- Buff LMG damage across the range, but nerf recoil bigtime
- Shotguns are mixed (12g slug = sniper round, buckshot and flechette seem pointless)
- Assault rifles get slight damage buff, but recoil nerf (416 gets nerfed badly)
- Pistols get buffed
- Sniper rifles are essentially interchangeable now it seems.

FWIW, bfblog are reporting no patch in February.

@ Daniel and Parkour, sorry guys we just managed to get into the same squad and just as you got into my tank Daniel, I lost connection. Had to restart my PS3 and then couldn't get back into the same server. :grumpy:
Dan what was that join chat message you sent me? I've never seen that before.
On the plus side when I came back on I managed to get my mic to work so next time i'm on with any of the guys here i'll use it.

Cheers Shaun.

It's the PS3 equivalent of Live's Party Chat - although you can only use text instead of voice.

Mike and Parkour, awesome games we had as well - Terahn and the last Métro games were the best, IMO :D

Enjoyable games Daniel and Parkour 👍 could barely hear you Dan, I think my mic is a bit crap.

Special thanks to PV for reviving me so many times at Metro :D It is nice to know that you can go into a 'situation' knowing someone can mop up when you get your sums wrong.

Overall, we did pretty well. Cleaned up at Kharg (shot down 2 choppers with tank shells then finally unlocked CITV!) and did well at Tehran too. There was one round in there someone where we got toughed out, but we came back strong. We had some effectiveness with soflam/ jav Dan, just need to co-ord a bit more efficiently next time 👍.

I just managed to get two kills with one bullet using the L96. I think that is the first time I have done that in Battlefield 3.

Mike Rotch
(finally unlocked CITV!)

Takes note for next tank run together.
You going to be on tonight Mike?
I've got tomorrow of work and hoping to get a couple of hours in and try out the mic.

Cheers Shaun.

Should be, but probably not for more than an hour if so. 👍

What is the best way to use CITV:

1) when squadding up
2) when playing with randoms?

Those were some fun games guys. 👍 I was wondering who would get to their computer first and give a report about the games we had. You're welcome Mike, and I give you a big thank-you for dropping ammo for me on Metro, my DAO-12 seems to eat through it.

And also, I'm beginning to like my M320, even though I've had it for a while. The buckshot rounds will shred whoever I point it at in close-quarters, and if I'm running around P'ing the O and reviving people and a wild tank appears, I can take cover and put a few of the normal rounds in it and immobilize it. Normally if I'm not playing Engineer I stay away from objectives with armor in the vicinity, but with the M320 I don't have to.

1) Make sure there's someone with a Guided anything or a Javelin
2) Don't bother

:sly:

I loved that Tehran game - I got 14 kills. Two with the G18 and 12 with the M98. The US team were really bad snipers...

I find it useless with randoms.
As the driver you can change your loadout and use the guided shell. Of course to do this the MG has to be given up so a trusted gunner is needed.

Cheers Shaun.

Posted this about 20 pages ago, but what me and my buddy do is as follows:

I use either Reactive armor or Autoloader/maintenance, depending on the map
Canister Shell
Thermal Optics

My buddy uses
Proximity Scan
Guided Shell or Co-ax LMG, depending on map.
Zoom or thermal optics, He changes randomly.

What we usually do is drive to the fringes of the combat zone on large maps, I designate the Helis, if there are any, and he shoots them down with the guided shells. We usually ignore jets as its pretty rare to encounter one who can successfully engage a tank, and if we do, we just shoot it down anyway. Then when we get into some more CQB situations, e.g. B and Op Firestorm or Caspian, I drive and use canister and main round to kill people, he kills people with the gun. If we take too many hits typically I get out and he switches seats, this is so that the shooter still has the proximity scan and he can warn me if someone is coming to kill me when I am repairing.

On closer quarters maps with no air vehicles (Seine, Damavand or Noshahr) I still usually drive and I use autoloader or maintenance. With autoloader you can pretty much continuously fire on the enemy, this works very well while your team go to capture B on Damavand if you sit on the other side of the tunnel and suppress the enemy as the come down the streets from either end.

If we have a third member, he is usually a friend of my buddy, and he just got the game, so we put him in the gunner seat and I get out and kill people who they can't get, in buildings etc, and repair them when they needed. If I die, I just spawn on the third seat.

Using these methods, we are pretty much unstoppable.

I'm going to try this.

On the right map :sly:

I was gunner for a tank driver at Canals a few days ago and he shot down 4 choppers with CITV/ Guided missile.

edit: just saw hollidog's post. Quite clever to swap seats in the tank to use different unlocks...

Was he lazing and shooting by himself? Ive wanted to try this but I didnt think that they stayed designated for long enough to be able to switch.

Also, it says in the description of CITV, that it also allows you to use a proximity scanner, but in my experience, this doesn't always work. Example: if I get into the third seat on a tank, I might not have proximity scan, but if I am in a tank and I don't have proximity scan, I have a random gunner who does not have it, and someone gets into the third seat, I can end up with. Then, sometimes, even if they get out, I still haven't. I haven't really documented this but its just something I have noticed.

I never trust randoms to do anything. Like if there's an M-Com that's been planted, I assume if I (or someone i know in my squad) doesn't take care of it it wont get diffused. Things only work in BF3 when teamwork is utilized. I can't even go into TDM with all randoms and win, even if I'm the top slayer.

.

That's my experience with it mate.
I've found if you jump out of the CITV seat and back into the driver seat (if alone) you lose lock. If I'm doing it wrong and someone can explain it to me thanks.

I found with two it's fine, gunner swaps to CITV station locks and holds target so the driver can fire the guided shell. Once the process is complete the gunner gets back into his seat to help with opposition infantry.

Of course having someone permanently in the CITV station works best but not many people want to do that, it's only 10 pts per lazer kill assist isn't it?

Edit: hollidog are you saying from you're previous post that the gunner can fire the guided shell from that position?

Cheers Shaun

He was.

For example, a chopper would appear, he'd be painting it (for example the main turret would be tracking it and I would be hearing the 'beep beep beeeeeeeep' associated with locking a target) and then he'd follow it up with a missile and boom. It was just us two in the tank.

No, what I mean is that we switch seats, (my buddy also happens to have CITV so its just a case of us both pressing X, no one has to get out) he has guided and I have canister shell. So we can switch for air targets or ground targets. Works well and keeps it reasonably fair especially on maps like Op Firestorm where there are two helis, the guided shell can usually get some decent multkills, I think the most we have ever got is five with one hit.

From what I have noticed, before I had CITV, if I was gunner in a tank I couldn't see the person in the third seat. This could be what you are experiencing. However I have noticed that since I have unlocked CITV, if I am gunner or driver, I can always see a slot for the third person, even if there is no one in it.

Im certain that guided shell can only target land vehicles, unless the air vehicles have been laser designated. The other alternative is of course that someone was using SOFLAM, but who does that in this game...

As far as I'm aware, only the Scout helicopters can laze and shoot targets from the one seat.

Thanks for clearing that up 👍.
That's how I thought it worked otherwise I wasted many an hour in the gunners seat only using the MG.

I think this may be the case.
I've tried a few times when in a tank alone and could never get it to work.

Cheers Shaun.

I really like the QBU-88 and the MG36 now. I find that team deathmatch is a really awesome game mode to, great way to earn kills faster. Got a couple of service stars and medals while playing it.

Likewise

While we are on the topic of tanks one thing that really bugs me is when someone jumps in as the gunner and starts randomly shooting his MG. Happens quite alot when a chopper or jet is on the other side of the map and said guy thinks he can bring it down with a LMG.
All he's achieving is giving your position away on the map.
More often than not when I spot an opposition tank and if it's possible I try and flank them and get the first shot off up his backside, simply not possible when the gunner is trying to shoot lamposts and seagulls.

The other downside to this activity is that I'll start looking for what he is "shooting" at or slow/stop so he can get a better shot at whatever it is he is shooting at.

I actually have a mate that when this happens to him he just stops the tank and waits for the guy to get bored and jump out. He'll then drive off.

Cheers Shaun.

This is 10x worse when the MGer is giving your position away in a jeep  All you have is the element of surprise and there they are trying to shoot down a jet 2 km away.

Just played 7 games on US West servers, won all of them, got an MVP ribbon in each of them, (except the one that I joined partway through) and ace squad 3 times. And there was only two of us. One game my score was better than 3rd 4th and 5ths scores combined. My buddy was second and 200 points less.

What do the other people do?

Had one real good map on Strike at Karkand Large, we were attacking and seemed like everyone on our team was going for A and not getting anywhere at all, went round to E in the LAV and lifted their tank that they had left behind, captured E, then D, then C, by then we had lost E again, then it was quite a titanic battle between me and my buddy vs about 6 of them. End of, we came back from 70-160 to win 59-0.

What do the others do?

Had a match tonight where 2 engineer teammates were spray painting male parts on the wall at the spawn point with the repair torch. Grrrr
