Yes it does, I don't see you online :-p

 Yeah sorry about that.... Real world commitments have taken over, work is killing me at the moment :) I'll be back soon though! and I'll drop you a line when I do.

Ah that real world......

It's good to take a break once in a while :-)

I watched a video about the L96 shooting a bit high now in the new patch and I am thinking that may be correct after using the Mk 11 Mod 0. I was able to quickly nail four or five headshots with the weapon. I may not use any of the bolt action rifles for some time after using the Mk 11 Mod 0 briefly. The advantages of the semi-automatic action likely outweigh any benefit of using a bolt action rifle.

I've been chirping on about the semi-auto rifles for weeks, the bolt actions are just to limited in their effective range where you can just change your scope and use a semi-auto on any map and just change optics. The Mk11 is perhaps the most versatile hybrid for good enough sniping abilities over 100m and capable of accepting a smaller zoom scope and taking down up close targets, largely due to the fastest reload of all recon weapons IIRC. The SKS is a superior close-midrange rifle, but the Mk11 feels like the most versatile rifle for me. I now only ever change the scope, swapping between an 8x and a russian 3.4x which has a super open view down the scope making it ideal for maps like Seine where bullet drop is rarely a factor, but the lack of mil-dots is somewhat a pain on larger maps.

Due to an imminent hard drive failure, my guide can either a) go on hold or b) I can release what I have so far which is more like a beta and includes only assault and engineer so far, could release tomorrow potentially.. For each class I've broken it down in to the following:
- General overview of the subject/class, broken down in to each class, vehicles, gametypes and a general section (plus I'll reserve an extra post just incase, more specific PDW information likely to go there).
- Suggested playstyles/roles for individual players
- Equipment section, giving details on best use for equipment and a fairly sizeable section on primary weapons. Note: I've deliberately avoided heavy statistics, these are all available online and I may provide a link for useful charts in the OP. As a substitute I've broken down the more common sub-classes of weapons and a personal favourite 'suggested' set up (opinion not fact).
- Key tips section, things not already covered which are more specific pieces of information on how to use a class/vehicle effectively.

I've got my restore disc from home in the post, should that not work I will have to send my laptop away which could take a while to get back.

I wish they'd sorted out stealing of choppers in the patch, setting foot in the enemy base should be instant death.

That would be a bit harsh because sometimes it does happen by accident.
I think it would be easier if they made it so only one team could fly it until it had been used.

I have known about the SKS for quite a while and had used the weapon quite a bit, specifically as a battle rifle for mid range engagements. The SKS is fantastic for that use. I have also used the M39 EMR in a similar role and found the weapon is less effective compared to the SKS because of lesser magazine capacity and fire rate.

I should say though that I was a terrible Recon player before unlocking the M40A5. The M40A5 helped me learn proper pistol usage and being selective on when and when not to take shots at range because of the bolt action limiting your firing rate. There are times when taking a shot just does not make sense, as taking a shot will likely just give away your position. Further, I needed to think about better shot placement and how important one shot for one kill is. Prior to the M40A5, I would be inclined to spam shots with the M39 EMR, instead of taking the split seconds it takes to line up a more precise shot or series of shots.

To be a more effective Recon player, and a more effective player in general, I really needed to learn to use pistols more effectively, become more selective when taking shots, and place shots better. The semi-auto Recon weapons discourage the last two points and the first should have been a no brainer. Now, I no longer hesitate switching to my sidearm. Before, if I had to pull out a pistol, then I would get a feeling of certain doom and my death was very likely imminent because of the lack of confidence in the weapon. I use the M1911 in all four classes and if I have to pull the M1911 out, then I know it is going to be effective at putting down bad guys, so long as I put shots on target. I should also say that my accuracy with all weapons has improved some because of using the bolt action weapons and the better shot placement/selective firing thing.

FYI, you are correct on the Mk11 Mod 0 reload time. The weapon has the fastest reload of the Recon weapons and is just a hair slower than the M16A3/M4A1.

Battlefield 3 Devs Detail Incoming Updates, More Hints of Snow Maps, Android Battlelog App On The Way

The recent Battlefield 3 patch did bring with it it’s fair share of issues. Luckily, along with previously promised updates, Senior Gameplay Designer Gustav Halling has confirmed, “…we are working on a future patch for some issues,” however, there is still “no date.” One bug in particular that is quickly gaining attention is the extreme effectiveness of the M26 MASS underslung attachment. Clearly, it was not meant be tweaked in such a way and Halling has confirmed a fix in the “next client update, no date.” Additionally, a bug that hides the Squad Leader from the minimap when using color blind mode has been sent to QA for reproduction and will be looked into, according to Community Manager, Daniel Matros.

870 MCS and 12G Slugs are pretty awesome. Buckshot and Flechette are awful and saying the two are awful is being nice.

@ Vash: that is a bit mental. Might give me a reason to play the game again now. Haven't been feeling the urge too of late :indiff:.

870 with slugs looks like the new USAS/Frag combo...

Not a fan of Rent-a-servers. :(

I've been kicked just for doing well (and I'm not that good).
I don't like how they ban certain items from being used, if it's in the game then it should be able to be used IMO. Seems sooky to me.
250 ticket rush games !! (how easy is that for the attackers!)
What happened to all of the DICE servers, they seem to have vanished.
Rent a servers also seem to freeze or drop-out far more frequently.

I payed for a game that had multiplayer and now I'm forced to join rent-a-servers after only 6 months.
Cynical me thinks DICE are just being massively greedy with a money grab.

I know it's a bit of a rant but it just frustrates me.

Search for DICE or P24 in the search bar (PS3), you'll find them there mate.
Can sympathise with you though, finding a Dice server with the rotation/game mode you want seems to be getting harder by the day.

On that note I gave up searching the other night and chose the quick start option. Ended up in a Conquest game at Metro, still around 1000 tickets left on each side so god only knows how many it started with.
Normally I wouldn't play a round that long but because I had had enough of searching I decided to play the round.
Turns out that it was an enjoyable round, mainly because I was in a good squad. I ended up with about 60 odd kills.
One thing though apart from obviously being longer the ability to rack up ribbons is crazy. I ended up with 39 ribbons 7 of which were assault rifle ribbons alone.
Before anyone says that's just because it's a longer round, I know.
But how often have you checked your stats later to think, only if I had one more kill with that weapon or one more revive would have netted me a ribbon.

Seems all alot of the ribbons I had earnt earlier in short games are just too easy to get now.

Cheers Shaun.

M26 DART is so ridiculously overpowered right now. Luckily DICE have already announced a patch being worked on to correct their mistake on the M26.

Not a bad call. Ended up in the middle of a Seine match in a relatively well balanced fight. I brought out Uncle Pain (PKP) and went 31-3 :sly:.

I have to start thinking more out of the box after seeing this.... The kill at 0:40 is awesome :)

You definitely need to try the 870 MCS with Slugs. If you have not unlocked Slugs for the 870 MCS, then be prepared for some frustration, as Buckshot and Flechette are nearly worthless. The range on the two is pathetic. Throw in a bit of Suppression and you can forget about either landing on target, even at near point blank ranges, as the spread of either becomes absurd. Throw in the low fire and 870 MCS has a very difficult time trying to overcome Suppression.

If you want to use a semi-auto shotgun with Slugs, then the M1014 is a good alternative, though the slugs do not hit quite as hard and it will often require more than one slug to kill. Either weapon with Slugs makes using a shotgun fun though, as the Slugs make the shotguns useful at ranges beyond arms length.

870 with slugs looks like the new USAS/Frag combo...

I cannot say whether it is because I never used the USAS/Frag combination. I never felt the need to abuse the mechanic. Though I can say that the 870 MCS or M1014 with Slugs is a lot of fun.

The C4 video was pretty cool too. C4 can be quite fun, though I am terrible at deploying it a majority of the time. I can never remember which mouse button does what.

Lol, I kill you you kill me over and over again, 100 points per kill, plus payback bonus.
Pick a small map with close flags and each take 1 flag to spawn on. Probably rack up a decent spm while maintaining a k/d of what you started with.

Note, I haven't boosted except for a small amount in helis which I still don't have "mastered"

I guess it's a good way to practice long range sniping... use beacons and get headshots... I suppose the score would roll in.

Buckshot/flechette is situational, but effective when used right at the right time (see most used weapons on my Battlelog ;). The 870 in particular is an excellent shotgun with either round on maps like Bazaar if you play smart and work the flanks which are often left completely undefended to get in behind the enemy and before they know it you've emptied your clip with a kill for each shell. Just like the bolt action sniper rifles though, shotguns can do one thing better than anything else and everything else it is useless at .

I want to try slugs for the 870, but I can't bring myself to suck with it long enough to get them.

I have been using the 870 with the Slugs and it's been fun killing guys with just one hit. The only problem was 5guys in front of me, I was shooting against them all and none of them died but I know that I hit them. Damn you suppression!!!

Rxp and I had time for one game today, but oh man was it a doozie. We joined a game on Caspian Conquest where our team only had 40~ tickets left and the other team has us capped 3-1 and had a 100~(+) ticket lead on us. Rx and I soon had them 4 capped and we actually won the game by the score of.....

1-0.
