Sorry to bail on you caz, but I had had like 5 losses in a row. I especially hate to lose when I was the only driving force behind the defense (I say that because every bomb plant they had was after they got me) and my score was triple that of the 2nd place guy on my team.

No worries. I'm having an off nite and I haven't payed rush in a few weeks. Whole different playstyle.

Also, taking out 60 vehicles in a 500 ticket match (not that long) seems quite a tall order. :odd:
That was my mistake. It had around 800 tickets when I joined that match and the team I joined was losing. Ended up being a 2 hour game by the time I was finished. I also count disabling vehicles as taking them out because most of the time the pilot or driver bails. I also had players helping with the soflam in that game. Unlike my match last night. Not a single other engineer and NO one was using the soflam. 3 snipers on our team and not a single one using soflam. :ouch:

On my own I was still able to take down every single helicopter that was in the air. Took longer than usual in one of my games last night because their helicopter and gunner were REALLY dang good. As soon as they heard me lock on, they turned and knew exactly where I was shooting from. Seemed to have some sort of red target laser too. I dont fly the helicopters so I have no idea what they can and cant do. But his strategy was working very well so it was much harder to take that helicopter down each time he was up. Never got killed by a jet at all in my matches last night so I never even messed with them. Shot down quite a few helicopters. I dont always destroy them, but if I can at least disable the helicopter and cause the pilot to eject, then thats a win for me. :sly:

Another question. Is there another class that can take out the helicopters with regular guns? Maybe some sort of machine gun with armor piercing rounds or something? That way if I am not as successful with the engineer, maybe I could switch to a different class or heck even a gun for the engineer that can shoot down air vehicles.

No infantry primary weapon can take down a chopper IIRC, you only get the IGLA and Stinger (C4 technically and an M320 maybe COULD do it but highly unlikely) and on that note people who shoot at choppers and jets from the machine guns on tanks are being very foolish, the damage done is very small and it brings the helicopter right to you and reveals your location constantly. Use the emplaced AA guns, anti-air missiles and laser designators, on that note you could say Recon has an AA option of sorts but it requires someone else to have the missile, Javelin or vehicular and always place the SOFLAM away from your actual location, it's likely to get blasted, with an SKS you can play a fairly normal role in the game even on smaller maps but the semi auto rifles are all decent with the right optics. The best anti-heli weapon comes from the air, a good jet pilot should prioritise attack helicopters over anything else, even if they get took out taking the attack heli down because other jets pose much less threat to ground units.

A note on spawn camping, I don't think it's morally wrong on CQ though people who put mobile spawn points behind the attackers when they destroy an MCOM sets are total douches. That being said, I don't enjoy doing it which is why I don't do it but I'm not going to throw away a win particularly as I don't join these epic long servers so I just sit back somewhere else and defend a flag or route a bit further out of their spawn. Also, on some maps spawn traps are unbreakable without a very organised effort so once it occurs it's game over if you're on the trapped side, Metro is an excellent example as either side once they're pushed right back to spawn are never going to get out particularly the side by Cafe as you can literally see them spawn . It's not wrong, but it's just not fun for me on either side unless there is still a chance of someone getting out.

Apart from spawn killing VEXD, that's fun.

That awkward moment when VEXD joined the opposing team to us on Metro and was one of the clever players who took the second set of escalators instead of going head first at most of our team... the escalators which we were making sure were still defended .

Jeez, what is it with people throwing down ammo boxes and lobbing grenades into a passage they are overlooking, when it would be much better to lure them up where there are 4 support class soldiers all with mounted weapons...

Hey Dragon, you mentioned that shooting at air support with a mounted machine gun is worthless... but if the thing is pointed straight at you, you can possibly take out the pilot. O had an enemy try to do a strafing run on me once and I actually shot him out before he passed us.

True, but still often flawed as your driver should be bolting it asap and you leave yourself open to an easy C4 if you allow a helicopter to distract you whilst you're trying to follow the chopper. Keep the ground clear around you and you have an easy escape if disabled. Note: The first upgrade for MBT can be stacked, if you're with a friend assign one person to gunner, one to driver, gunner brings proximity scan to stack with another upgrade of the drivers choice such as Reactive Armor. Stacking proximity scan means you remove that C4 danger which often occurs IF one of you is keeping an eye on the radar, freeing the gunner up to take some pot shots on the heli if it is on you. Attack heli's can nail you so fast and blur your vision so much though that the best bet is to ditch it as gunner after they complete their first effective strafe unless you have cover close by to drive to first and get some repairs done . The gunner should make sure any infantry threat is removed first, proximity scan can do that for you also allowing repairs whilst the chopper turns around to come back 👍. Once you're disabled though, good chance it's time to get away from the vehicle for when it comes back for the finishing blow.

I'm not saying never fire the gun at the chopper, but it should be more of a last resort. Ideally your gunner has access to CITV and you bring guided missiles for a chopper map, gunner swaps to the CITV station and gets the lock and this will panic the pilot often, forcing him below radar (hello main tank cannon) or to retreat. I wonder if there's a way to stack 3 upgrades using CITV and a full tank of 3, i.e. is there a usable set of 3 which will work, not all upgrades work when in the gunner seat.

You forgot that you can shoot the pilots in choppers or jets.

:scared:

Using anything other than a sniper rifle to attempt to kill a chopper or jet pilot would probably be foolish though. I managed a hit marker using the M40A5 on a pilot on a game on Gulf of Oman. The pilot in the opposing Viper was moving very slowly while floating. I was close enough that I would not have to do much correcting for bullet drop or lead, so I took a shot and managed a hit marker. I must have spooked the pilot because he did move away from the area.

It is a very good tactic to have one squad rush the back escalators while the rest of the team holes up in the front escalators and side hallway to distract the other team. I have seen quite a few games turned on Metro by one squad getting past, capturing the closest point to either spawn, and then pushing B for the capture. The only problem with this strategy is that it can be difficult to accomplish without good players or some coordination.

Just got kicked by an admin for doing absolutely nothing wrong... Except maybe for killing them. That is why I hate user rented servers, corrupt admins who do whatever they can to steer the game in their favour.

I don't think you need an entire squad, I've managed to do it by myself many times. Although I do get a bit calmer when someone else spawns on me.

You definitely do not need an entire squad; but it certainly helps to have at least one other person helping, if for no other reason than to have a sacrificial lamb/decoy. Typically, when I have been successful slipping past, it was because I was working with one or two other people and the one or two opponents watching the back escalator could not deal with multiple targets. Someone in the small group I was working with would die, but so long as at least one person in the group managed to slip past, it would end up being successful.

What really stinks though, and I have had this happen to me a few times, is be on a team that is not good enough to capitalize on one squad slipping by. It is quite frustrating to successfully pull off what needs to happen to flip the tides on a game of Conquest on Operation Metro, but the rest of the team is not capable of pulling their end.

They did exactly that on that very game. One of them went to those doors in that side alley which comes out near the kiosk/stairs, and the rest spawned on him as I was killing him. I got 3 with the SKS and one with the 1911.

I'm sure the US team have an advantage on Operation Metro. Every time I've played it the Russian team have been unable to break through into the subway station, and are often pushed back to their base and surrounded by snipers. Even when they do eventually break through and capture A and B, it's not for long.

Video in post #6404
Holy crap that pilot ejecting from his jet to shoot the pilot of the other jet with a gun, then jump back into his jet was incredible. That had to be staged??!! If that was real, there is no way anyone could top that. wow!

On a side note I have shot down helicopters with a pistol before. I am guessing it must have already had a lot of damage but it is possible. It even showed said "enemy killed" and showed the points. No assist. I was just thinking there must be other guns that are powerful enough to shoot down helicopters or at least do some serious damage to them.

What???? Is this true.?? :dunce::confused:
The U.S. Team Always gets trapped downstairs in the Subway station

Wow, that vid is sick.
Makes me want to play BF3 again but I always come back to the game and feel like the controls are oafish and sloppy. Probably just a learning curve, though it could be that BF3 was meant for the PC. Not really sure on that one... Just remember playing and thinking the game was great but the controls difficult.
That said, I do love the realism, managed to take a building down on several people and got credit for the multi-kill even though I only blew out all the walls of the building. :p

I've found the opposite to be true, with Russian holding A and B whilst the US can't fight their way up the stairs.

The best place to hold either team off in Op. Metro CQ is at B. You can keep the US team from getting up the stairs and you can also keep the Russian team from getting to the stairs if you hold a line at the turnstiles.

On my clan's server last night, we had issues keeping people on the other team or in the game. We took all the flags on Bazaar and that's when I told my guys to back off and let the other team take a flag or two. We let that happen but the majority of the other team still remained in their base.

Then on Op. Metro, we let them take all the flags to start the game before any of us left our spawn base. We even agreed that we would only use handguns to even the playing field and by that time the server was dead.

Must be the team I always end up on then... :grumpy:

Does anyone find the M240B unusable?

Yeah, the recoil is horrific, even when mounted on the tripod.

Regarding Op. Metro, whoever gets to B first essentially wins. I've been on both sides of triple capping, but only once has my te been able to get right to the enemy base (we were US).
A good strategy as the US team is to equip Sprint and have two or three squads go to B Flag and leave one squad to capture A Flag.
