That aspect of points doesn't really work. I think the only time I get really annoyed by team mates, is those who don't drop health/ammo or who snipe from so far away that they nothing much beyond get 4-5 kills and protect nothing.

This has been a real frustration for me at Caspian on large ticket servers. Heaps of support guys, never dropping any ammo. Not even sure why they are running around with LMG on that map...I chased one guy from D all the way to A via C and only when I cornered him and jumped up and down, he eventually got the message.

C4 make tank go boom?

Good post; Did read

Youre right about the mouse. I find if its an even confrontation (i.e. we both see eachother at the same time) I often lose. Quite frustrating, but thats part of being new I guess.

Its not so much the lack of weapons that bothers me, rather the lack of attachments. I only have 120ish kills total, so as you can imagine I only have sights for most of my guns. I miss the adaptability that the various attachments provides.

Also, I find it very hard to find servers with maps that I like. I look at the server browser and at this time there are only 5 servers in my region that have players in them. Ones a 24/7 Metro map, a 24/7 Metro knifes only, a 24/7 Wake, a flight school server. The only server with maps I would actually play in is a mixed mode server. And I suck at Rush. And there is only one player.
Granted, quarter to four in the afternoon on a thursday is probably not peak time for most people, but even at what I would consider to be peak time (9-10pm) there are still only about 10 full servers. Very frustrating because I am a close quarters player, I love running and gunning and getting behind enemy lines. I have no vehicle upgrades either so I feel like a burden if I take a tank, or get in the gunner seat of the chopper, seeing as I cant fly to save myself.

Interesting discussion on skill. I think it is all relative really. Its hard to determine the skill of other players, because you cant see exactly what they see or determine exactly how they think. I think in this game, if youre not in a communicating squad, then the actions of everyone else seem very random. When I was on PS3, I was quite a selfish player. I always wanted to be on the top of the leaderboard and if this meant staying on the burn for the flag to cap for me to get 250 points rather than going and reviving a guy who was off the point, I would stay where I was. My rationalisation was often, if the enemy killed that guy, they could just as easily kill me. If it was a squadmate and he had told me that they had traded deaths or something, then I probably would, as a living squadmate is infinitely more useful than a random.

Might also be why Im not as good on PC, on PS3 I usually always ran with a squad, and we were very good on the comms and this saved our asses many a time. On PC I have no one to play with and I think my game suffers as a result.
So if any of you guys are on PC, send me an add on Origin, my username is Hollidog53. For some reason they wouldnt let me use hollidog even though I have it tied to my EA account.

I thought you couldn't shoot AT mines with anything other than a SMAW or RPG......

:irked:👍

I will send you an invite on Origin; my name is Corner_Terrorist.

I typically play with either my brother or local friends.

And skill will come with time. The control you have with a keyboard and mouse is far superior to a console controller. It just takes time to get used to the layout.

When I stopped playing BF3 on XBOX (no one to play with) I had a 1.7 kdr always PTFO and 9/10 MVP every match. On PC I have a 1.75 and 9/10 I am top 5. I run and gun and sometimes just get bored and start running around with the scoped magnum or 870 with slugs and an 8x lol. I am not saying this to say "hey look at my stats" but rather a comparison between a console and controller I used for years vs. a keyboard and mouse I have used in FPS for 2 months. Now, I played a lot of CS in high school (10 years ago) so it isn't 100% new to me but there is definitely a learning curve. I literally didn't even touch a mouse and keyboard for those ten years. But, once you get the controls down you could improve from what you were doing on console like I did, but the competition is much more... well, competitive.

It's not easy to adjust going from 24 to 64 player servers on top of learning a new control scheme. It demands quicker reactions, adapting to larger maps, more players, more vehicles, constantly checking your surroundings, and learning to avoid sniper fire from the expected 10+ snipers on the opposing team. God I hate recon.

And to Brett,

You mentioned difficulty with crouch/prone: Try binding a key,( I use caps lock) as a 'toggle' crouch prone. This will work like on console where a short press = crouch and long hold = prone. (I believe DICE calls it toggle).

How does sporting a LMG help do that. Running c4 yes, but LMG are not effective on wide open maps.

Depends, can think of a few places at Checkpoint and Gas Station where you could deploy a bipod and provide covering fire against infantry, Gas Station particularly. Though Forest and Hilltop would be better suited for PDW. If you use the MG36, which is a sort of LMG/AR (well Carbine, as it's a variation on the G36) hybrid rather than an out an out LMG, that can be quite useful there. I think the ideal squad at Caspian would be 2x engi, 1 x support and 1 x assault. With the latter two a few metres behind provide covering fire and ammo/revive support.

Well the P24 servers appear to have disappeared as well, it's going to get more and more difficult to find official servers and we all know how hard it is to find a good server that's just fair with normal rules. Not to mention it's now got to the point where my girlfriend is getting kicked from servers on 8-6 in a game (all AEK kills) whilst other players on her team holding all 3 flags on Metro are on 60-12.

Rented servers are my only major issue with this game, even the M26 hasn't been a huge issue for me, the lack of Dice/EA servers is becoming more of a threat to just having a good time with no interference or ridiculous rules. I don't play on my own anymore because I don't want to spend time finding a server just to have a few non-serious games that I know will be fair (not against full clans, getting kicked or lasting hours).

I have it figured out now . . . mostly (I still occasionally flub it up). Just starting out on PC, I could do nothing right with a keyboard.

Rented servers aren't the problem, the problem is admins (most of who are decent). I have only been kicked from a server once for no reason at all. UK gamers have a good server and the admins are fair (don't worry if you're not from the UK, I was playing on there with some French guys the other day).

If you get kicked unfairly from a server, just report it to EA/DICE.

I have tweeted @Battlefield about filter option to have Official servers and Public, and they will put it into report, so hopefully we'll have this option :-)

It's the fact I'm forced to use them without spending a good 5-10 minutes finding a normal server that's the problem, not necessarily the admins with their ridiculous rules and power trips. Both the system and the people abusing their admin powers are problems, it's not the fact that rented servers exist in themselves that's an issue it's the way it's been implemented and then the problem is magnified further by the people making them with crazy rules and playing god. Finding a normal rule set 100% tickets server is far more difficult then it should be.

Just had a couple of games on the UKG server. I joined a squad which happened to have some guy called chelseaman28 in it, and he had a mic. We were loosing quite badly when I joined and all I heard from him was profanities and "this is ****ing ludicrous" constantly. He also seemed to be blaming all of his deaths on lag due to the other person's "third world" connection. Then during the second game, an american joined the server (who also had a mic) which angered chelseaman even more. He then spent the rest of the round moaning about the "third world" internet connections of the people he was killed by and arguing with this american fellow who had a fairly decent match while ripping it out of chelseaman.

I have to say, it was thoroughly entertaining to listen to. This guy is easily the worst loser I have ever encountered. Ever. My only regret is not having a mic myself :(

WHERE DID ALL THE BATTLEFIELD 3 OFFICIAL DICE SERVERS GO ON CONSOLE? DICE CM ANSWERS

“There is only so much physical space and digital space where you can have servers. The community requested an RSP programme and we delivered,” according to Matros. This makes sense, but at the same time, player should still be able to find servers that center around regular rules, set-ups and playlists that they’ve come to love. Luckily, Matros explains that DICE has taken notice of the feedback. “I’ve heard this for a while now and the feedback has gotten louder. This is definitely something I will raise when I get back into the studio tomorrow,” explains Matros.

Battelfield 3 Dev Answers Your Questions: Suppressor and Foregrip Combo, Scope Effects, and Much More

2. SKS bullet drop is very pronounced. Bug or intended? It ruins my immersion whenever i see it.
(Asked by @shimme01)
Alan answers: ”The SKS has a relatively low velocity round when compared to other DMR and Sniper weapons. Over the same distances the SKS round will drop further and lose more energy since it’s a smaller caliber round. The SKS is range limited, though it makes up for this by being mobile, fast firing, and deadly in mid-range. For longer range engagements I would step up to something like the M39 EMR or the QBU-88 sniper from Back to Karkand.”

3. In comparison to the P90, the MP7 is a bit outclassed. Maybe consider reducing the MP7′s first shot recoil and increasing the P90′s?
(Asked by @kryptikspaniard)
Alan answers: ”The MP7 has a lower overall muzzle climb, a faster reload (especially from empty), and a higher rate of fire than the P90. Finally, the MP7 is rather easily obtained via COOP play, while the P90 comes later on at Rank40. Obviously they’re both similar weapons, and I feel the subtle differences between the two weapons makes it an interesting choice for players. Some players clearly prefer the P90, others prefer the MP7.”

4. Do scopes have an effect on vertical recoil? Didn’t know if the weight of the scope factored in? It’s not in the descriptions.
(Asked by @friedpixels)
Alan answers: ”Another great question. Scopes only change two variables: how much zoom they provide and how fast the weapon aims down the sights. A high zoom scope, like a 6x rifle scope, will be slow, and a low zoom sight, like a red dot sight, will be fast. There are no additionally effects on the weapons’ handling, no changes to recoil or accuracy.”

5. So a gun that has just a suppressor and a sight has better aimed accuracy than one with a foregrip & suppressor?
(Asked by @KILLAnthonyMan)
Alan answers: ”The short answer is Yes. The long answer is Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssss. The explanation though, is more interesting. A foregrip carries a small aimed accuracy penalty, if you’re trying to get the best absolute accuracy you can with the weapon, a suppressor will give you better aimed accuracy. However, combining the Suppressor and the Foregrip will give the weapon the same accuracy as if you had no accessories, while also reducing recoil. It’s my recommendation that you only forgo a foregrip (see what I did there?) if you demand the absolute best accuracy you can obtain. Generally, inside 100m a weapon with a foregrip is still plenty accurate to hit consistently on target, and it will be easier to control.”

 Unless it was a USAS pre-patch, or a DART+Heavy Barrel, I blame myself and try to figure out what went wrong. Helps me not get pissed off 👍

Not this guy. Every time he was killed, he would shout "how many ****ing bullets does it take" and complain about lag and the other person's "third world" connection and that it was 2012 and people with "third world" internet should be banned from online games :scared:

And while I have experienced lag so bad I have filled another player with an entire mag only for it to not do any damage, it's only ever happened twice to me. On top of that, I killed a couple of these people with "third world" connections quite easily without having to use a full mag :sly:

Just heard that DICE has shut down all of their official BF3 multiplayer servers for X360 and PS3 owners:

http://venturebeat.com/2012/05/09/official-dice-servers-disappear-from-battlefield-3/

From the article:

Fellow poster ohtobiasyoublowhard also raised concerns about EA’s reliance on paid-for servers: “I’m looking for official DICE/EA servers on the Xbox 360. There are none. You took that out, and let kids pay for your hosting

Come on, this is EA. Is anyone really surprised by EA shutting down their own servers to try and sell even more to their community? I thought it was common knowledge that EA will do anything for even more money :banghead:

So I am interested in how this scenario could have been played out differently:

Firestorm, CQ. I'm running Engi with M1A4 and Jav when I sus out that there is at least one camper sniper somewhere in the oil refinery overlooking A. I make my way up and up cautiously, I can hear either a spawn beacon or a TUGS. I can hear shots and pin down on the minimap where they are, but not how many levels up. I eventually find their spawn beacon unattended, leaving only the top most platform which is where the shots are coming from. I also notice there is at least two snipers up there.

There is only one entrance to that platform - up a ladder, and I cant toss a grenade up. So I climb up as silently as I can, two steps at time to coincide with their reload noise. As they shoot, I scramble up and see two snipers. I knife the first guy, hoping the other wont hear, but he does and tried to knife me. I draw my pistol, but just miss him and he kills me with his knife with a frontal swipe :grumpy:

What could I have done differently (besides improve my horrendous aiming)?

Pisses me off so much. The machine guns are now junk, way too much recoil. I used to be a beast with the PKP, but now I can't hit the side of a barn. even if I do burst fire it jumps everywhere.

so sad, I loved that gun.

Just shoot them, its that easy.

Valuable insight right there. But I am looking for views on playing the percentages - was the approach route right, should I have spotted and left it to someone else etc.

I would suggest you read Dragon's post a page back about situational awareness.

I would have probably done the same.
Tho the best options may have been to spot and let a helicopter take care of them. Or I believe the aa guns have a line on the tip of that stack. ( if its the one I'm thinking of)

Could you have gone up, then dropped/bounced a grenade off something and run away? I'd have probably gone gun, thoguh i have died in similar scenarios to that. Actually, I'd have gone 93R (it's my sidearm on all but Recon) instead of main gun, easier to take them out.

Everything you did was fairly logical (approach crouched to avoid motion sensor picking you up btw, same goes for claymores you can walk right over them) but the main problem came right at the end. You knifed, this particularly situation is exactly why I use the M1911 suppressed where I'd have shot the first guy in the back of the head, swapped to primary and finished off the other guy or just use my primary for the whole thing if they're very close to each other. When you come up against 2 guys in close proximity your best bet is to get yourself in to as good a position unnoticed before going loud and taking out as many targets as you can as quickly as you can. Having a suppressed side-arm is the best stealth option if you don't have a primary with one equipped, taking out the first target with that gives you a split second to decide if you stay suppressed with the pistol or bring up your primary immediately.

The knife animation has 2 flaws, it takes longer then shooting someone and has a longer recovery time but also as soon as the animation starts a guy on a headset can say to their buddy they're being knifed giving their team-mate a while to react which means the knife is only best used when an enemy is alone. This is why I make my case for the 1911 suppressed, you see a guy who's oblivious to you and you can just pop him in the back a few times accurately with that without risking being spotted or left exposed after a knife (if anything I don't knife even when I probably should). Outside of a G18 those guys don't have the equipment to deal with a full auto carbine at close range so give them as little time as possible to deal with it, if they haven't picked you up on TUGS they will not be prepared at all so throwing a grenade just means they know you're coming and you are at a disadvantage. Grenades are best used in this sort of situation if they know you're coming so you force them to move away briefly to give you a window to move in to position.

I love it when this game lets me play it

When we joined we were down 400-200, yet somehow we had all the flags. Didnt last long and was forever going and taking bases and maiming faces. Not sure if that other guy was in the round the whole time, but I didnt think he killed me that often.

Got so many kills with the SMAW and tank shells that round by dropping rubble onto people. Got a triple kill defending the stairs in the alley by D, then my second rocket got another one. Got a double in A Alley doing the same thing.

You managed to knife one, so surely you had the drop on them? Why didnt you just shoot them both in the back and leave it at that? No one is going to investigate the deaths of these snipers, and even if you arent using a suppressor, because no one spotted you you are only on the map for about three seconds. That is if anyone bothers too look. The way I play this game is I just assume everybody sucks, that way, I can take my time line him up and drop them. Takes a lot of the rush away.

You have taken a lot of time to hunt these two down, and if you just shot one, you could of done it <10 bullets, and had plenty in the chamber to shoot the next one as long as you got on him quick. Even still, he would have been suppressed and reaching for his pistol so you would have dropped him easy.

I think playing the team game of spotting is good, but select is such and awkward button for me to get to. On PC I have it assigned to a thumb button on my mouse, so its right there. PS3 I rarely bother, unless Im looking through smoke.
