Yeah don't suck. This isn't a forgiving game like other fishy titles might be.

Learn the maps and play the objective. This is the only way to win.

So I got BF3 for Christmas. I gotta say, I really like it, even though I suck just as much. I played Black Ops before this, so I understand there's a learning curve involved, but are there any general tips I can get to keep me alive, especially in multiplayer?

Rule # 1 : Play the objective
Rule # 2 : Play the role of your class
Rule # 3 : Utilize everything around you
Rule # 4 : Do all of this, you will scream in enjoyment

When do you unlock service stars for a class? I have several engineer weapon service stars already.

At a certain amount of points. For engineer it's 145,000

The weapons after are co-op and assignments.

Patience. It's hard to resist the urge to just sprint across an open area but take your time and move a lot more slowly. There is tons of cover and bushes will actually hide you so make sure you use all the natural cover they give you along with the obvious cars, walls and buildings.

Don't try and run around like Rambo, its the finest way to get killed. Support your team members with what your kits allows (ammo, meds) and use your kit as it was designed i.e. Engi's aren't supposed to be primary front line infantry, they are supposed to take care of machines first.

Also, DICE, get your act together :irked: Whenever I join today it's without unlocked kit, and, the servers are all empty.

Thanks for the tips. 👍 Yeah, I've found that moving slowly does work much better, as well as that I'm better off as an infantryman or gunner rather than driving vehicles. Engineer is also my preferred class so far.

You'll find you'll need to play each class basically, as certain maps render one or other class more useful. For example, an Engi isn't very useful in Metro, or many parts of Grand Bazaar.

I disagree with that, an Engineer is very good for the close quarters part of Metro but the beginning and the tunnel is better as Assault. I think Engineer is useless on Firestorm except to take tanks out but against other infantry your not very effective because of how big of a map it is.

How so - flinging SMAW's up corridors?

I actually think the opposite for Firestorm - defence needs Engi's to take out the tanks. Attack, I agree, they are less effective.

Rockets make the engineer class very versatile, basically do what your team isn't and fill that void

 If you can't play the game then yes.

For defense I agree but it's pretty useless at range.

i need some one to help me out with the recon class if you have the Claymore and the support class please i should be on later tonight 👍👍 Do some team work on squad rush mode...

What you really want is soflam and javelin, and hide in a bush

Edit: sorry for double posting

As you are better then me at this game, I'll take your word for it :).

Two things from today's play:

1) Freakin heck man, the USAS needs to be nerfed. Got obliterated by a squad running them at CQ Metro today. One shot kills from 30 meters away FTL.

2) I only just unlocked the Javelin, but I am not sold on it yet. It seems to hardly cause any damage to tanks, despite being more guaranteed of a hit then the regular RPG's.

Do I have you added Mike Rotch? I feel as though I never play with any of the people I have added if you would like to play. I agree with the Javelin, it has the same damage as RPG/SMAW unless it's laser designated and it only gets two rockets.

I don't think so - I'll add you later on (2 hours or so) 👍 Should hit level 20 later today :indiff:. The penalty for spending the first half of my BF3 career playing rush, not CQ

 I stopped playing Rush at level 10 and don't regret it except I wanna get the 50 wins dog tag. Might not be on for a while tomorrow, gotta set up my Thrive and teach my mom how to use her iPad. But after that's all done I'll be on Battlefield 👍

I got the game this morning, my awesome mother got in line on Black Friday and snagged one of the few $28 copies they put out. Bless her heart.

Now on topic, could anybody add me and give me a little walkthrough of the gameplay itself? It's very different than any other game I've played-I had absolutely no clue what I was doing. What's a "backyard?" I'm a BF noob. :indiff:

Added 👍 I only like Rush on Grand Bazaar and Seine - good opportunity to unlock scopes quickly on new weapons :D.

Check VEXD's description a page or so back - have you come from COD or are you totally new to FPS? Are you familiar with Rush and Conquest concepts for example?

So many times I've offered to heal others/requested healing and nobody responded! I need to get into some GTP matches...

Happens all the time, I think alot of guys don't even know how to do it.
I normally give them a quick singe with the repair tool even though it does no damage. I know it achieves nothing but it makes me feel better.

Cheers Shaun

Good games tonight. It seems like A LOT of noobs around though, both on my team and opposing. Fun stuff though

^ if you don't at least try when given the opportunity, you will be unable to get anywhere with them later in the game, but I agree, those who wait for the teammate to get shot down or shoot them down in the first place(it's happened to me more than once) are either not bright, selfish, or completely points-oriented, unadventurous(.....?) or a combination of those

As for me, i just got the GT5 DLC, MW3, Uncharted 3, and soon ace combat DLC too, so I may be playin BF3 a little less, but definately more than MW3

Yeah, but i'm talking like 5 to 6 people on my team alone are waiting for jets. While I'm putting my ass on the line trying to make our team win...

Oh wow, I'd probably end up playin metro or sqdm for the L85 I think it is, if it's that bad.... Or the switch teams button is there for use if availabe

Mike, the Javelwin is only as damaging as an RPG if you are hitting tanx from the sides, back or front.
The only way to hit tanx effectively and stop them almost instantly with it is to have the targets painted by a SOFLAM.
The Javelwin will lock on from anywhere, and will travel straight up, then straight down onto your target, pretty much destroying it from above.

I'd love to be in a round where someone on my team is painting targets and I am taking them out.
Strike at Karkand or Gulf of Oman would be good maps for it.
Also, I use the EXPL perk when I use RPG's or Javelwins, as you get loads more ammo.

I had a game at Gulf of Oman the other day, and I climbed the crane at the construction site.
Was using the Javelwin from up there, as I knew no-one would be SOFLAMing, and it was taking tanx out in 1-2 shots, from above.
I need team mates!

:irked:👍

Ah, I see. Thanks for the education. 👍 I can see then how SOFLAM and Jav would be a deadly combo, but I bet it is pretty rare for that to happen in a random public lobby. Diggin the A-91 at the moment. Pretty good clip size and as long as you don't try be a hero from too far out, it's pretty powerful.

Had some good games today. Cleaned up a few times at Noshahr and Kharg (both excellent CQ maps) with MVP/ MVP2.

It is so irritating however when everybody decides to play topgun up above and leaves choppers and tanks to obliterate infantry. I mean, seriously, go play flight sim if you want your wings!

If we are ever on at the same time mate that sounds good. 👍
A few times I've missed you by about ten minutes, damn time difference and all that. :banghead:

Nice one mate. 👍

I particularly like Kharg as it's great for tanks. Joined one Xmas night (after wife and kiddies were tucked in bed) about half way through. Lot's of new guys on obviously, I went 23/2 I think it was. I'm no pro at the game but a tip for the new guys. Don't stand in front of a tank with a RPG/SMAW going one for one, you'll loose every time.
A well co-ordinated attack by two or more engineers will stop a tank most times but one wont. :dopey:

Cheers Shaun
